I’ve been here a handful of times, and every time I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The variety that they serve has provided me with options to really try out new items and so far can’t complain. Definitely continue returning for the food, the friendly staff, and the atmosphere.

Went here for my grandparent’s anniversary dinner. A really nice restaurant with great food. The chicken Jerusalem was excellent and the chicken pesto pasta was tasty as well.

Went there on Monday evening for a team dinner. The service is slow here. I just tried the angel hair pasta, it was really yummy with the right amount sauce and spice.

Good food, good quality. I’m really sad they took my favorite dish off the menu– the mushroom risotto Had the chicken dinner most recently which was very good. Their steaks are always great as well. I do feel like they need to find their footing more with the menu, i.e. not try to change or refine it as often. I think they could up the number of appetizer and entrée options as well.

If only I could leave negative stars. We saw the posts for Downtown, but wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. DON’T. We went for lunch. I ordered the salmon sandwich with sweet potato fries. When it came, no sweet potato fries. Just regular. Ok no biggie. Salmon was over fried. Not sure why fried. Sauce was good. Only good thing. I had grease or oil dripping from it. Not really a healthy alternative. Next, my friend ordered the Angel Hair Scarpariello Scampi. The waiter asks do you like spicy, she replies yes. Okay. Well it comes and looks nothing like the picture on their web page. Way too much sauce. No Kielbasa sausage. She rolls up some pasta and eats it and immediately goes for her water. It was the kind of spicy someone would do to cover something up. And wrong kind of spice for pasta, more like the dipping sauce for pot stickers. The shrimp was good with the sauce, but she couldn’t even eat the pasta. Lastly, my other friend ordered the Hanger Steak. Ordered it well done. It comes in these 6 chopped up pieces. It tasted like it had freezer burn. Bland no flavor and chewy. The chimichurri sauce had no flavor. The only thing good were the green beans. The waiter was attentive. The bus man was OVER attentive. He filled up our soda glasses every time he walked by. When we told him no thank you, he said if he doesn’t keep our glasses full he’ll get into trouble. What??? We always wondered why it NEVER gets busy and now we know. Just avoid it.

There are a lot of small, fun restaurants in downtown Redwood City. We went exploring last week, and selected Downtown for dinner. The restaurant was empty, but the tables were nicely set. The menu had a interesting variety. We ordered the chicken lettuce wrap, ahi tuna poke, hawaiian chop steak, wedge salad, and spaghetti and meat balls. Everything was fabulous, and thoughtfully presented. For dessert we ordered the apple tart, along with the brawny Port. The apple tart was yummy. The port was pretty funny, because it was the largest serving of port I’ve ever had. Rather than a small sniffer of port, it was a full wine glass. It was tasty, as expected, but but even split among the three of us we couldn’t finish the glass. They probably don’t get a lot of orders for port, and didn’t realize the expectation of a modest serving. The service was great, and very attentive. The«busboy»(who, I think, was actually the owner) told us that he made the pita bread himself. He brought us extra servings. I think they have opened only recently, explaining the lack of customers. We met the cooks after dinner. I promised them an enthusiastic 5 star review. This is it. We loved the place, highly recommend it, and look forward to going back.

Not so great food. Ordered the Mushroom risotto and it tasted like it had too much cheese! Got sick of the taste after eating 2 spoons of it. There is a long wait for the food to get served too.

Unfortunately, their dinner was super mediocre and the price was hella high. I give two stars becomes the service was fine, but the food is nothing to come back for. We got the fried pizza and the dough was undercooked and almost soggy. They said it was because it was ‘fried’ not ‘wood fried’ and we weren’t used to it. Well if that’s the case, offer the pizza on the house(they didn’t, they reheated it and let us try it again…) Their alcohol was on point though. At least I was happy with my drinks.

Came here today and to he honest I was not expecting much because I learned right away they did not have fettucini Alfredo :(but anyways, we came in, really amazing service! The bus boy was soooo great and attentive(yall complaining: I’m sorry you had crap service elsewhere because that’s what good service looks like!!!) the tomato basil soup was amazing. The pita bread was AMAZING. Excited to see this place grow! Defiantly will be back! Ps. Host(girl) was great as well dealing with my crankiness

My friends asked us to meet at Downtown. We read reviews, and we are ready for bad food, bad service. But the service is very fast, very polite. And the food tastes good too.(we had brunch. We arrived around 1, they gave us brunch menu) and the price is a little bit expensive. I probably will not go back again, but I am not disappointed.

The proximity to the parking garage makes this restaurant a convenient place for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised this little gem was not busy on a Friday! I ordered the crab fondue. It was rich and full of flavor. The best part is that it was loaded with huge chucks of crab meat! I will have to come back and try the other dishes here!

My experience at Downtown was interesting… My friends and I had planned to see a movie in Redwood City so we wanted to grab a bite to eat close by. We hopped on Unilocal to look through reviews and saw relatively positive reviews and a menu featuring California inspired apps and great looking salads and pizza. We made a reservation, but once we showed up it was a very different experience than what we thought. We received the menu to see it was only a few apps and a selection of a couple salads(not what we saw online). They had a pizza oven, but no pizza on the menu? Overall, the food was good and service was great and friendly. Just wasn’t what we were expecting based on what we saw online.

First time trying this restaurant and I wasn’t too pleased. The other restaurants were all a 45 min wait so we came here instead. The weather was warm and since there were no wait for outdoor seats we decided to eat here. I was stoked to take friends here since I pass by it all the time without trying it. I told myself today will be the day. Very confident in my choice what an EPICFAIL! The crab ravioli was cold and it was flavorless. On top of that we ordered appetizers which they forgot to serve. The pita bread, first batch they provide before they serve your food was warm and delicious. I asked for another round of the pita bread since our appetizers never came. Second round of pita bread was cold but I was so hungry I ate it anyway. Overall the customer service was decent but food was absolutely a disappointment. Two stars for the employees effort.

Two stars on Unilocal says«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» Well…Meh, I’ve experienced better. I ate here last night with my eight year old son. We were both confused as to the theme. Even he said«Daddy, what is this place?» I understand California Cuisine but this place had a real mish mash of menu options. None of which seemed particularly fresh or healthy. Nothing on the Main Courses really show cased California’s ingredients or influences from outside cooking styles. When it came down to the food itself, it was edible but not great or unique. My son and I shared the Baked Mozzarella something something as an appetizer. It basically was a melted mozzarella dish that you would put on bread. It was tasty but the consistency was all wrong. Basically it was globs of mozzarella floating in oil. I had the Cornish game hen for my main, it was flavorless and incomplete(missing parts, yes… missing body parts). My son had the marinara off the kid’s menu which was actually pretty good for kid food. We shared the chocolate pudding for desert, that was probably the best part of the meal but the pudding wasn’t really unique in any way. I also had two glasses of wine. Minus the wine(including a free appetizer) this was a $ 52 meal that is not to be repeated. I think this place needs a major overhaul both to it’s menu and aesthetics. The je né sais quoi of the place was totally underwhelming. When walking by it you have to ask yourself… is this place a restaurant? Poor signage and bad branding contribute to this question. Bad lighting outside as well. The place’s interior is clean enough but white linen does not make a restaurant. I feel like it could be so much more than what it is. Given that it was a Wednesday we overlooked how empty it was. When walking back to the car we noticed that every other restaurant was packed. We still gave this place a shot, a mistake that will not be repeated.

Strolling the area with my date looking for a place to dine and passed by Downtown. The hostess outside said hello to us, like they do in other countries, inviting us in. It worked. We went in. They had some seating outside and a few seats inside as well which was nice for 7:15 on a sat night. Menu is short but has something for everyone. I went with the Nicoise salad. Pretty hearty and good, but a little salty. We were in and out of there pretty quick and the atmosphere was nice for a quick din before the movies.

This place was really underwhelming. My girlfriend and I were walking along Broadway trying to find a place to eat on a Friday night. This place was fairly busy but had available seating outside so we decided to eat here. I had the Italian Sausage Orecchiette Pasta and my girlfriend had the Dungeness Crab Capellini Pasta. Mine wasn’t very tasty and barely had any actual sausage in it and also had spikes of bitterness in it(probably the broccoli) that completely ruined every other bite. The dungeness pasta was completely bland and had no redeeming qualities. How do you make spaghetti that tasteless? Even the bread and olive oil they gave us at the beginning before our meal came out was bland. On top of that, the service was pretty poor and it took a long time during all parts of the night(taking our orders, bringing our food, bringing the check). Seriously, don’t eat here.

Overall the food was Ok. There were only 4 other tables seated, we expected great service. It wasn’t. The service was mediocre at best, the wait staff isn’t well versed or knowledgeable about the menu or wine list. We ordered small plates, salads, entrees and dessert, it was a celebratory dinner and we arrived hungry. We were disappointed that everything ordered arrived late. We received the small plates before getting the bread? then received the salads before the small plates were even removed from the table, and so on went the rest of the meal? Permissible if the place was packed but there were only 4 tables at this place if anything the service needed to be exceptional. When the entrees arrived the temperature of the food was off. The polenta was steaming hot, the Brussels sprouts and the rack of lamb were not. My friend ordered the ravioli and wasn’t offered any freshly grated cheese, yet the table next to us was? Our experience was peppered with inconsistency. The expectation of eating out is to take a culinary journey to new tastes, sounds and experiences. This place was a disappointment. It’s trying to be something it’s not… yet. The menu needs to take more risks, be more true to one cuisine and fully own it. With so many great places to choose from in downtown redwood city, it’s sad to say Downtown is a miss.

Met up with an old friend here not too long ago… The atmosphere is nice, but the place was empty and the waiter checked up on us almost *too* much. It’s nice to have attentive service, of course, but with no one else in the restaurant, it was more like hovering! My bigger complaint is that the food didn’t keep well. I got the salmon spaghetti pasta, which was super rich but really delicious at the time. I brought the leftovers home for lunch the next day but they were legitimately rock hard. Too bad! I also feel like a place billed as «California Cuisine» should have some lighter options and more unique, gourmet vegetarian entrees. Still, I’d go again! … If someone else suggested it…

Alright, boys and girls. I have mixed feelings about this place. Parking is hard to find, but they were able to accommodate a party of 10 on just a few hours notice. They took FOREVER to make our dishes, but they gave us a free(?) appetizer as an apology for taking so long. The food was just ok, but they could make almost anything without garlic for me(allergy). Oh, and all our dishes came out at the same time. I had to ask them to refill my drink and my water ALL the time, so I guess this is a breaking point towards 3 stars. It was also kinda loud inside. I don’t think I’ll be coming back, but I can’t say I regret going? Not sure. I usually have pretty strong opinion about restaurants…
