Small unassuming and very easy to drive right by. But don’t you will really miss some great food. It is just a small place a little bit east of the post office on Artesia. even with only nine booths and four tables inside, I am always able to get a seat. Out front there are a couple of small tables on the sidewalk. The décor is simple and relaxing. Some Mexican hats on the wall and usually some other decorations depicting a nearby holiday. When you arrive and sit down you are greeted and brought some chips and salsa. It is a Mexican restaurant so I won’t go into what’s on the menu. I am not great with spicy but over the years I have eaten most everything on the menu. My favorites would have to be wet burrito with red sauce or a simple chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. There is a white board on a easel with the day’s specials much it makes decision making easy. Price is very good it is not a inexpensive taco stand, but great for an inexpensive well cooked meal. The workers here all act with great care and I am sure one of them is a owner but who knows. Danny is usually on shift when I come threw and will put a smile on my face and make a great recommendation for me, he is sometimes the only waiter or the cook. In most places this does not work, but Danny is top notch in either position. Well that is my thought’s on this small yet GMC Great Meals Consistently restaurant.

We’ve been going to this place for years(as Redondo citizens and now as visitors) for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is my favorite. I love pouring their salsa on my eggs. Husband always gets the menudo. We’ve been trying to find a place in New Mexico for years and when we return to this place in LA, he always says their menudo is the freshest and best he’s ever had. It gets crowded mid-morning.

The joint was clean, salsa o.k., & the food o. k…but it wasn’t anything to write home about. While in there i thought i had found a new Mexican Food restaurant to add to my list but NOT! i ordered a plate & he got the order right verbally with me but it came wrong and he blamed it on me… whatever! The waiter(tall Mexican man with a mustache & white long sleeve shirt /owner?) only had 2 other tables to tend to but focussed all his attention to a Mexican family across from me. i felt neglected… no extra salsa for chips i had left… no refill of water i… didn’t even care to ask me if everything was o.k. VERYPOORSERVICE which tells a lot about a person… namely rude, uncaring, & arrogant! When you pass by this joint… do yourself a favor… and keep driving by! Restaurants like this normally FAIL& go South(pardon the pun). Signed: «Go Back To Selling Pillows On The Streets».

I love this place! I’ve been here many times, and the food is always delicious and they have great pricing, especially for being in Redondo. The complimentary chips and salsa are delish! The salsa is so good with a little spicy kick, the chips seem store bought, but are served warm. I typically come here for breakfast which is not too crowded usually. They offer menudo on the weekends(or maybe just Sunday not too sure) which is pretty yummy and comes with all the fixins like onions, cilantro, spices. My go to breakfast here is the chorizo with eggs, which includes beans, rice, and either flour or corn tortillas. So good! The beans and rice here are always very good. The service is usually very decent.

I have been here a dozen times. The food is okay but the service is slow and one of the waitresses can be rude! Unfortunately my last visit I ordered food and it had metal pieces from something. I still had to pay even though I didn’t finish or did I get a replacement meal. The service ruins this place.

My family used to come here all the time, but I will never, ever come here again. The food is good, but our waitress today was extremely rude to us. We have always left good tips and have had a pleasant relationship with the staff. Her attitude this morning was totally rude and unprofessional. Not worth the aggravation to go to such a place. Good luck Calimex in keeping customers!

Been eating here since I was a little kid. Best hard shell tacos in the South Bay. You can order them to go, take them home, wait an additional twenty minutes and the shell is still crunchy. Unlike some other places(cough-LBJ-cough) that you can take a bite literally 30 seconds after you get it and the shell falls apart from so much grease. Great salsa, friendly staff, I’ll keep eating here until the day I die.

I come here a lot and I only ever get one thing: the enchiladas rancheras. They’re perfect! The tomatillo sauce is the best around, and the rice and beans are awesome as well. Service is also fast and friendly, which gives an added bonus to the already excellent meal.

My favorite local spot. Salsa is awesome. Staff is very friendly. Small place — often crowded(midday is empty so good time to go). Don’t forget to order your Coke in a bottle. :D Bring your stretchy pants!!!

I have been eating here for over 20 years. If you like good authentic Sonoran Mexican food then this is the place for you. Some of my favorite dishes are the shredded beef enchiladas, chile verde, and the chile relleno.

Hands down the BEST albondigas soup! This homemade albondigas soup is extremely flavorable, and the meatballs are tender and moist. This is a MUSTTRY dish, and once you have it, no other soup will compare. Besides the albondigas soup, the tamales is also very delicious. You can’t go wrong with these two dishes. The customer service is also excellent; the staff are very nice and professional. Calimex is one my favorite mexican restuarants.

I recently found myself waiting for my car to be serviced, by my favorite mechanic, and took a stroll down Artesia Blvd. It was early and I hadn’t had breakfast yet, and I was feeling a bit peckish. I was considering the standard greasy spoons down the boulevard and noticed Calimex was open for breakfast. I decided to give it a try, since I love Mexican cuisine and Mexican restaurants aren’t often open for breakfast. They did not have chilaquiles which was a disappointment, but they did have machaca con huevo’son the menu which is my second favorite Mexican AM treat. The machaca plate came with corn tortillas, rice and beans that were good, but the machaca itself was outstanding. The beef was perfectly cooked and shredded just like it should be. They even got my eggs right(extra well done-bien cocida) without overcooking my beef, that’s a tuff trick to get right, and I was stoked that they could pull it off so well. Usually when I order my eggs extra well done they either don’t take me seriously and under cook my eggs or they burn everything else. This means the toast too which I often get with black crusty surface, but I digress, everything was perfect. I’d love to try their interpretation of chilaquiles, if you are listing. ¡Otherwise, Viva la Calimex!

Good cheap Mexican food. I came here for lunch one day and the place was pretty empty. There were only one or two other patrons there there for brunch/lunch. I sat down and scoured the menu for a chili relleno and guacamole. They have it! I got the chili relleno and taco plate with a side of guacamole. The chili relleno didn’t look like any that I’ve seen before. It wasn’t the whole pepper, the stem was taken out and it was just the body enveloping some cheese, dipped in egg batter and fried. I’ve definitely had better and more impressive chili rellenos. The beef taco was ok. The beef mixture had potato in it… potato filler =\ The guac didn’t seem like it was freshly made rather it looked like a packaged Wholly guacamole kind of deal. Unfortunate. The saving graces of this place are the chips and salsa, and service. The salsa packs some heat and it’s just yum. The service is great here, and the people are super nice and welcoming.

Solid, yummy mexican food. Good service. Tasty chips, guac, and salsa. Must try the asada. Even the most basic bean and cheese burito is a treat!
