Well let’s start with a positive comment, I had the 3 Egg Omelette yesterday, with toast and has brown, it was a 6⁄7 on a 10 scale, not bad just an average plate, attractive, bland, and nothing special at $ 12.00! Today I had the Eggs Benedict, pouched, medium(preferred runny, nice looking presentation, but the muffin was greasy, tough, hardly edible. the hollandaise was a powdered product, curdled, tasteless, no bright lemon flavor, I associate with a classic, made sauce, it is after all what creates a nice dish, presentation 9/10, product 5/10.the Hash browns were crisp, but oily with an aftertaste of old oil??3/10.the sausage sides 2 ounce portions, were spicy, but not a breakfast sausage with a pleasant hint of sage.5/10… $ 19.77!!! $ 2.75 coffee, $ 2.75OJ, $ 4.00 sausage. Grand total, plus $ 23.00 A better choice, Bev’s…$ 8.25,

We had the breakfast here and it was a sizable amount of food and well prepared. Decent view and the service was attentive but it wasn’t busy at all at the time.

Was looking forward to a nice breakfast at St James Hotel on Xmas morning. Ordered smoked salmon with the usual accompaniments of capers, eggs, chopped red onions. What came out was a fully cooked chopped and mashed side of salmon. Not what I was expecting(lox?). But the the salmon was actually pretty tasty so I am ok with this. The low review is for the service. Once we were served, our server Stephanie never checked in with us. Our coffee was never refilled and our order was wrong. We couldn’t find her so we went without coffee and ate the wrong food. She finally came over just to give us the bill when we were half way finished. I stopped her to let her know that our breakfast order was wrong. She blamed the kitchen and said«they must’ve got it wrong, oh sorry» and walked away. How about offering to correct the order? Or at least look us in the eyes and apologize for the error instead of doing so while walking away. She finally asked if we wanted a refill when we were about to pay our bill.

Had breakfast, got the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel and it was nothing like what I expected. The salmon was smoked, and then cooked, and chopped up. Reminded me of the kind you get out of a pouch. Asked the waitress, who was very nice, to clarify that the food was prepared properly, and asked if they could do the salmon smoked but not cooked(the way a bagel with cream cheese and lox are supposed to be), no such luck. It was alright, but would have been a better on the lunch menu.

Nice service & pretty decent food… although we waited a bit to get our bill paid, it’s a fairly enjoyable meal considering the lovely window view. It’s inside St. James Hotel, so you don’t feel rushed while dining there, which I appreciate.

Food and service is spot on. Great place to meat for lunch and enjoy the beautiful view of the river, barn bluff, and historic Red Wing. I can’t think of a better place I’ve enjoyed a chicken Caesar salad.

Worst food ever! Chips with Guac were cold and sticky with oil. Wild rice soup was boiling and fat was floating Steamed mussels seemed fried and were drenched in some type of obnoxious dressing. Sandwich buns smelled access oil. Checked in sandwiches was almost dry as plastic.

It’s Red Wing Minnesota. For us narcissistic Chicago City dwellers, this might as well be Oudougou. Charming town, actually, and a splendid Hotel, the St. James wherein this Resto abides. I thought at first it was going to try too hard, but really, it’s a pleasant place, with fine service and good food. The wheel is not going to be reinvented in this kitchen, but the stuff that came out of it on the day I was there was first rate.

The Good: Excellent Sunday brunch. Pretty decent breakfast, all-around. Friendly staff. Free water refills. The Bad: Staff, while friendly, were a little unresponsive. The Rest: Did not attend for later meals, so I cannot judge the quality accordingly. Also, I love a tasty, home-style breakfast, and this is what I got at The Veranda.

A decent spot for lunch on the second floor of the St. James Hotel. The atmosphere was nice and the service was attentive and thoughtful — our server went out of her way to find a newspaper and reading glasses for someone at another table. The food was tasty, but not outstanding. The market salad was creative, featuring hazelnuts and squash, but would have been better with less dressing. The menu includes only a couple of entrée options for vegetarians. The beer list included several local beers and they serve freshly brewed looseleaf tea.

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here, and also Sunday brunch with family the day after. The staff was so professional and courteous and the food was FANTASTIC! They really go above and beyond to make you feel special. It was really cool to see our names on the screen in the elevator and our menu was custom printed with our names and dinner choices. Very classy. Brunch was spectacular, as well. Made to order omelets, prime rib, and pretty much anything else you can think of! It was a great way to start wedded bliss :) Thank you Veranda staff!

Not sure why the rating was so low. My wife and I came for lunch and it was fantastic! I had a lobster roll which was about 90% lobster on a croissant, and my wife had the roasted beet salad. Bloody Mary’s were on spot but watch out they will sneak attack you. We also had a croissant bread pudding that was stunning. Service was a little slow, but we were not in any hurry. Otherwise they would have received a 5 star rating.

We had the corner table on a picture perfect day. My sister ordered the«roll the dice» drink. She ended up with a prohibition vodka lime drink which she enjoyed. The process was a lot of fun! For lunch I had the prime rib sandwich with the softest ‘hoagie roll’ ever. The Au jus had a bit more rosemary than I care for but was good still! My sister had the fish ‘taco’ sandwich which she really enjoyed. My aunt had the quiche. Initially she was taken aback that the bacon was piled on top, but she thought it was very tasty once she got started. For sides, sis had fries, I had sweet potato fries and aunt had salad. Everyone liked their side. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I’ve ever had… Actually tasted like real sweet potatoes! Very yummy!

Good food, reasonably priced and well presented. Hard to find. It’s inside a hotel lobby with no exterior signs.

A pleasant dinner for a family. The guac is actually pretty good. The best meal of the night was the pork chop, potatoes, chutney, and greens. The white fish was uniquely served with red and green peppers, tomato sauce and a pesto. The guys enjoyed their burgers and fries. The margaritas were a bit sour. The server got a few things wrong on the order but was really nice about it. We would probably eat there again. It was a rainy day so we just looked out at the veranda, but ate inside.

Met up with friends at the St. James on Sunday — expected Jimmy’s to be open but they do not open until four. We ended up staying in the hotel to eat and drink as it was a cold, wet, windy day – The ladies at the Veranda were very accommodating and nice. We all opted for the buffet as there was not much in the way of options. I am not a buffet person so this does play into my review. It did have prime rib sliced to order and made to order omelets. They were a weird texture – perhaps eggs had too much water in them or something. The buffet had a lot of options — french toast sticks(really!!) sticky buns, bacon, link sausage, cheesy hash browns, pie, cake, chicken and cheesy bow tie noodles were just some of the offerings. I got coffee, mimosa, and the buffet got out of there slightly under 30.00 and was not really satisfied. My friends did not like the bloody mary’s they did not even drink half. The space is nothing more than something you would dine at in a casino – not impressed. The outdoor space and bar looked inviting perhaps on a nicer day I will get a drink and sit outside!

Had a sit-down Christmas brunch with a group of 8 or so… waitress was spot on all over it and food was fast. I got the squash ravioli. Sauce was TODIEFOR with sun dried tomatoes, and proscuitto baked. I mean it was mouth watering, lick your plate delicious. The other entrees around me looked wonderful and I was wondering why I never hear anything about the place. They aren’t open for dinner apparently, so small following in the day hours. They should rethink that, but I suppose it would mean some competition for the upscale and also delicious PORT in the same building. I won’t even go there with a review– it is out of this world with homemade gourmet items and a world-class menu– bring your black Am Express though– it’s a mean buck! So the Veranda was a lovely step-down with delicious gourmet sandwiches and sweet potato fries perfectly done. I knocked a star for terrible cheese cake. Sorry! The bread pudding was also TODIEFOR, but the cheesecake(my preference) was dry and tasted old. A real shocker since the Port has the best ice cream home-made nightly like honey almond and mint crème, or chocolate volcanos. Again, another restaurant from the same owners so surprised by the Veranda’s lack of dessert options. These other reviews here were perhaps acted on, because this was far better than the other reviews posted. The atmosphere and décor also seemed updated. Lovely view of the river area and nice windows and light. No problems, friendly people, fast service, excellent food!

this place doesn’t even deserve one star. five people to dinner. check around $ 100.00 I ordered the Thai salad — which was suppose to have a peanut sauce or dressing. instead I recieved a naked leafy green salad… with next to no dressing or sauce. served with cold fatty small peices of slivered beef which was flavorless and dry. both my dad and daughter ordered shrimp and steak skewers… BURNTTONEARLY Inedible. other daughter ordered a new york strip and got a rib eye — which was not even on the menu. came with onion rings which had an uncanny food flavor resemblance to fat fried fish. my mo. ordered the chicken. and said it was edible. beyond that it took over 15 minutes for the poor unskilled wait staff to bring beverages. which included both alcoholic and non alcoholic beverAges. it took litterly an hour and fourty to get served and eat… we rushed thru our meal after waiting over an hour for the food. I will never return. gross

Ate here on Monday, Sept 32012 for breakfast. Were seated quickly, handed menus. And that was all we saw of anyone for more than 15 minutes. No waters. No coffee, no server. We were among only 5 – 6 tables when we arrived. Most of the employees on the floor were talking amongst themselves by the server station. Server finally showed about 20 minutes into our visit. We ordered. Food was good enough but the wait had knocked us off our feed.
