Good, fast, courteous and efficient service. Good home style cooking with savory flavors. Rotisserie Chicken ½ Chicken dinner with green beans, mash potatoes and gravy was filling and satisfying. Good portion sizes and value. Brisket is also good but tastes more like a roast beef/pot roast than a traditional Texas bbq brisket. Nonetheless, grandma like style and flavor that will fill you up. Sweet potato fries are great as well and a good accompaniment to brisket with slaw. Not a fan of the bbq beans. If you’re hungry and want home style cooking at a great price this is a good choice!

1−6−16 Jodie(not Julie) did get back to me to let me know the website was in the process of being updated — so hopefully that will help everyone that visits the site. Also, she’s going to give me a credit for the difference between the website and the actual charges — so that’s good. I’ve up’d my review one more star and I’ll go back again to see if things keep getting better. — — — — — — — Well, I wanted to like the Smokin Oak and gave it a couple tries over the fall. Their website lured me in with $ 5 wood fired wings and $ 3.75 margaritas for happy hour. When I got there, I ordered the wood fired wings and had me a couple margaritas. When I got the bill it turns out the wood fired wings were $ 9.99 and the maragrita was $ 7.50 apiece. I brought it to the attention of the bartender, Andrew, and he knew nothing about the happy hour listed on the website. So, I brought up the website and attempted to send a picture of the happy hour posting to Kyle Knutson — listed under«Contact Us» — but that email address bounced. I then got the email address of Julie. – and sent the info to her. Never heard anything back. So, it’s way to exspensive to go there for anything other than a special occation. If you are having a special occation, the food is way too average for that. Skip it, unless you have zero other options. Their website is not kept up. The employees are unaware of the website. The management doesn’t care if you have an issue. Unless maybe you start yelling in the restaurant. Bottome line; too spendy for very average food /drinks.

We always stay at the hotel by this restaurant when we r in town and must eat here 3 – 5 times during our stay(and do 2 – 3 pick up orders). Staff are always friendly and courteous(hostess, host, waiter, waitress and bartender included). The food is really good(had the ribs, the pulled chicken salad with ranch, chicken, shrimp, crab, potato skin and cheese curds(best in town). We just did a catering order for pulled chicken and pulled pork for our family Xmas party and everyone loved the food, esp with their special reg and hot bbq sauce. Very consistent in service and food.

I got a take-out order from Smokin Oak as a matter of proximity: it is located right next to the hotel I was staying in. For the rest of my trip, I made the 4 mile drive into Red Wing downtown to eat. I ordered«classic veggie» pizza, thinking any place that charges $ 21 for a pizza has to know what they’re doing. The waiter on the phone seemed like he had never received a take-out order before and wanted to know if I wanted a «flat» pizza. I’m not really sure what other kind there is? I walked over after 20 minutes and got the pizza. When the waiter handed it to me, he said somberly, «We did the best we could.» After I opened the box, I saw what he meant: it looked like whoever made the pizza had never seen one before. It looked like all the toppings — sauce, cheese, and a really strange assortment of veggies that is definitely not«classic» — had been tossed in a bowl, mixed together, and then dumped on the crust. Still, I was tired, and I figured the order of the layers doesn’t matter so much… so I tried to eat it. It was the worst pizza I’ve ever tried to eat. None of the ingredients seemed like they were meant to go together. I choked down one slice and threw the rest away. Such a waste. I honestly found myself thinking I would have been better off driving to the grocery store for a microwave dinner rather than eat there ever again.

Ate there last night, had NY strip and baked potato. Steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My server was great and recommended some kind of salted caramel cake for dessert… it was outstanding

Dont know whats everyones issues with this place but Ive been here numerous times and not been disappointed. Having said that, Ive always ate in the bar. Service has been fine, food good, and plenty of different beers on tap. Now if your going there, do understand its not a five star restaurant w/fine dining. It has an illusion of such but the atmosphere is casual. Prices are slightly on the high end but not unreasonable. Yes they feature a special wood fired oven to cook their food but its not suit, tie place, so the atmosphere and expectations shouldn’t be as such. Ive had steaks, burgers, & enjoyed the prime rib last night. All meal were good but not great. So maybe thats everybody’s issue. Still its worth the stop & to be enjoyed. Definitely above avg.

Thoroughly enjoyed the brisket loaded potatoes. My partner had the prime rib special. Two thumbs up. I had the grilled jumbo shrimp with house veggies and the sweet potato fries. The shrimp had excellent flavor, I was impressed by the vegetable variety, and the sweet potatoes had tasted pretty good however they were shoe string sized. Wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. No big deal. The service was excellent. My only complaint is there isn’t much parking when sharing with the Country Inn Suites, which is where we were staying. We had to park on the street during our stay because the parking lot was full.

We had salads only, I had the taco salad, my wife had the«lunch-size» oriental salad. The taco salad was $ 11.99, and not as good Taco Bell’s. It was ok, but not $ 11.99 ok. The Oriental was unremarkable as well. Should have been called, Chicken-lettuce salad, with oriental dressing. It too was ok, but not worth money. I wouldn’t go back. Service was very friendly and prompt. Sorry, Smokin Oak.

Arrogant owner, sub-par food. Eat anywhere else but here! Yuck. Bad taste in my mouth. Lost both business and personal patronage over the owner’s lack of customer service and inhospitable treatment to a group of 20+ people.

I am sure there are worse places to eat in Red Wing, but I expected more from The Smokin’ Oak. Maybe I made a mistake in choosing the Maui burger over some of their signature rotisserie chicken. First, there was nothing but burger, cheese, pineapple, pulled pork and bun. If you were expecting condiments or vegetables, you might want to ask. Second, the meat was incredibly salty, which always raises a red flag for me in terms of food quality. I don’t remember the exact dish my fiancée ordered, but she also complained of over-salting. «If you don’t have something nice to say …» I know, what a dick. The onion rings were fantastic and the servers were super friendly and knowledgeable. The location is clean and spacious. Lots of parking. Lots of windows. It smells incredible when you walk in.

If you are hungry for good meat with great taste this is the place to go in Red Wing, MN. They offer menus for lunch or dinner each with many options. We went there for dinner on a Saturday evening. We ordered the«Rotisserie Sampler Platter». This option gave us the opportunity to taste half Rotisserie Chicken, 4-Bone Rack Rib, Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket and Bull Bites. The taste was superb. It came with garlic bread and coleslaw. This platter served four of us. We ordered side salad. There were two choices of BBQ sauce on the table. We really liked the hot one! The service was excellent. In the summer you have the option to eat inside or in the patio. Next time we visit Red Wing, MN, this is a place to stop back again!

The food here is fantastic from the wild rice soup to the BBQ. Clean place not a fan of the bar as it isn’t inviting. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive kind of sweet yet has a corporate feel

I was told about this place from a friend who had them cater her wedding and another who lives in Red Wing and loves BBQ. I have to admit that when I walked in, I was less than thrilled. The hostess looked at me and said she would be right with me but proceeded to bus tables. I was going to walk out but the bartender came to sit me down. He recommended the Cuban with fries. Talk about finger licking!!! To make is better, a very wonderful lady paid for my meal(I was in uniform on my lunch break). Experience was awesome!

Stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon(2 or 2:30pm) and my wife and I were promptly and politely greeted and offered our choice of seating. We went for the patio out front. When you walk in it reminded me of Doolittles a bit with the giant rotisserie right there wafting delicious smells all around. We were going pretty cheap that day so we didn’t get any drinks but noticed they at least had some Schells and Rush River beers which would typically appease a beer nerd like me. We ordered the wings and the ribs which appeared to be specialties, at least that’s my guess since they were pronounced and outlined on the menu. The wings were good, definitely not the BWW type or anything close to that but they were missing some spice and flavor and the crystal hot sauce to dip them in didn’t quite do it for me. The Ribs were better but a bit dry but well spiced and flavorful. Both my wife and I wished we would have gone with 2 orders of ribs instead. The service was good and overall I’d come back if we’re hungry and passing through the nice town of Red Wing again.

This place was just fine Three stars means that it was fine I say it was fine The owner of this place is not a fan of Unilocal. To each their own. Reviewing this place strictly on the merits. Ten beers on tap including three from Rush River. Can never go wrong with the Unforgiven. Went with the lunch portion rack of ribs for $ 10.99. Good, but not knock me off my socks great. Little on the dry side, but the BBQ sauce on the side was tasty and helped remedy that problem. The Cole slaw was also really dry. The server at the bar, Brittany, was prompt, attentive and friendly. So… three stars. Fine. #fine
