Very good food and wine selection. Waitress was great until it was time for the bill. Took almost ½ hour after we finished to get the bill. Update: this was a miscommunication. The bill was left in the center of the table but was never mentioned.

My wife and I eat here quite a bit and love every visit. The walleye finger app is delicious and the elk ravioli is easily one of my favorites. Great rustic feel.

Our steaks were good which was to be expected. The kids meals left much to be desired. Their fries were salty & neither of our kids even had half of them so I’d opt for a different side if possible. The crème brûlée was amazing and a must when dinning there! Relaxed atmosphere for sure! Would have liked to been asked if we were celebrating anything as it was our 10 year wedding anniversary & also wasn’t offered to join their reward club.

Décor was nice without being overpowering. Food was super tasty. Service was timely without being rushed or intrusive. Beer selection was great. I ordered my filet mignon extra rare and it appeared to be overdone, but was perfect. I didn’t know there would be fried onions and sauce on top, which I usually don’t like, but this was really good. Asked for my broccoli to not be overdone and was accommodated perfectly. Even the 3 sisters soup was incredible. Oh and the crème brûlée was everything. I’m from out of state… if you are too, definitely swing by Dakotah Steakhouse during your visit.

We had such a great dinner here! Tina was our waitress and she was just great! Best Casear salad we had the whole time we were in Rapid City. It was awesome! I had a top sirloin and Cajun corn, which were both so yummy! We even had a quiet table by the fire for a rainy night. Just perfect for enjoying a bottle of wine!

My husband and I LOVE this place. We always stop here for dinner when traveling through Rapid City. We’ve never ordered anything we didn’t love. He especially likes the Buffalo Ribeye, I’m all about the Lamb Chops. If you’re in Rapid City, don’t leave town without trying out the Dakota Steakhouse.

My server Leslie is dynamite and very informative when it comes to wine, drink ideas and the menu. I love her, a very good employee. I also met Robin the manager, what a great person to have managing this wonderful establishment but a real pleasant person to visit with. Started out with a Grey Goose Dirty Martini with Bleu Cheese stuffed olives. Made to perfection. House salad is marvelous, lamb is really good, try it.

This review is mostly based on my over all experience at this restaurant over the past few years. I will say I had a nice 120z sirloin here today and it was perfect. There are times where you can hit or miss on the steaks. Sometimes you can get a tough one, but I have had many more good then bad. The atmosphere is nice and very Dakota. If you want a South Dakota experience this is it. The wait staff are usually very good. The burgers are always very good also. I find the bigger sirloin is the way to go. Less likely to be tough compared to the petite. I have not tried the expensive steaks. All in all a very good place to eat.

This was my first experience in this restaurant the establishment was extremely accommodating. We decided to eat in the bar area since that seemed to be where all the action was. The food, wine and whisky selection was way over the top. They even have their own brand. Sarah was absolutely amazing. She made sure my 4 visits to this restaurant were memorable. Thanks so much for a great experience, I will be back for sure

Sweet server and great food. Nice western style. Feels like Dakota here. Steak is ok. I’m from west coast and we have pretty good high end steaks and I did expect more consider there are more cows than people therefore steak is suppose to be top notch… it’s ok! Btw t I had the most expensive steak too aged ribeye with Mac n cheese.

Everything was fantastic until the steak arrived. I’ve eaten at the best steakhouses in America including Morton’s of Chicago, The Chop House, Gibbons, Ruth’s Chris, etc., and have never been so upset with my steak. The menu states the steaks will be cooked with a 1600 degree broiler. My steak came out with grill marks on it. I asked management why?! I was advised the chef wasn’t on duty and some incompetent protégé had cooked my steak. There’s no excuse for a steakhouse that touts itself as being the best in the Dakotas to allow this substandard quality of preparation. Beware: Don’t go on an off night when the chef might be absent! You would be better off eating at Burger King, where the meat is actually broiled.

Beautiful building. Great dining atmosphere. The staff was nice. Extremely high priced steaks. Coming from the heartland, I have never seen such overpriced steaks. That being said, only one of our table of nine ordered a steak. We had burgers, prime rib sandwiches, and salads. The burgers were good and the prime rib sandwich was a roast beef sandwich. Not much to it. We ordered the wedge and Dakotah salads. Both were nice, the Dakotah is huge and was very flavorful. Would have been nice to add a chicken breast to it for a lovely meal. The wedge was lacking(the best I’ve had is from The Prairie Club, Valentine, NE), but it was still tasty. The steak that was ordered was the prime rib meal. It was tender and juicy. Probably won’t return. If I’m paying double to eat somewhere, it had better knock my socks off.

Everything fresh: bread, soups, nice portion sizes. The prime rib had less fat than I was expecting but delicious just the same. Husband loved the walleye fingers.

Extremely over priced. $ 40-$ 50 for most of their steaks. If you want a Caesar salad instead of house, you have to pay extra… because $ 50 just won’t cover that. I’m more than willing to pay $$$ for good food, but it isn’t even that good. You could get better at the delmonico or outback for $ 30. It wasn’t even plated nicely. It was the side and steak on a giant, empty looking plate with no visual appeal. They also give one piece of bread per person. I thought she was going to ask if we wanted more but instead asked if we wanted the rest of the butter… Don’t go here, there’s a reason why it isn’t full at dinner time.

So we walk in on a tuesday night and there are only 3 tables with people, We had to wait for someone to seat us. I usually order a beer with steak so I ask the waitress what they have on tap and she doesn’t know and has to get me a menu. She didn’t know what a stout was and was unaware there were different brew styles. I take this that she was new, so I asked. Much to my surprise she had been working there a year. I take it she doesn’t know wines either. We order are food and my work associate gets the wrong side. No one came by to check on us until we finished our meals. I had eaten at every other steakhouse in town by this point so I was astonished at the quality. For $ 40 a steak I expectes higher quality, flavor and service. The steak itself was 2 separate pieces I’m sure so they could make weight requirement. One piece was medium and the other rare. I had ordered rare so its interesting they were cookes differently. In all bad service, low quality food and a poor chef. I will not return and do not recommend Dakotah Steakhouse to anyone.

For appetizer, we had the Buffalo Skewers. Great appetizer if you want to try the Buffalo and not pay $ 45+ for the main course filet. We highly recommend it as a starter and something fun to try. For main course, my family had the Salmon, Prime Rib, Chicken Fried Steak, and a Top Cut Sirloin covered in onions. I was really disappointed in my Prime Rib. Despite ordering it Medium Rare, my filet was cold(I found this really odd, because they took the time to heat up the knife, but not the meat), unflavored, and had a large, inedible portion of unrendered fat running through middle of the cut. My side was the Bacon Wrapped Asparagus, which wasn’t cleaned, cut, or thoroughly cooked. I wish I’d tried the Ribeye instead, but they charge about $ 2.50 on ounce for it(that’s $ 40 a pound), so I passed. My wife had the Sirloin, which she didn’t enjoy. She ordered it Medium and it was cooked so long that it was practically leather. Her side was the Blue Cheese Mash, which we both didn’t enjoy(cold and a strange flavor). My sister raved about the Salmon. She wasn’t about to share it, but it looked like a portion of fish covered in a tomato sauce(I’m really picky about fish and don’t like«sauces» covering them). My Dad had the best dish, Chicken Fried Steak. It was a huge portion, cooked perfectly, and tasted like heaven(it was so big he couldn’t finish it all and gladly shared with the rest of us). Overall, amazing service and friendly staff. Elegantly decorated establishment. Expensive prices and lackluster food(well, for half of the party anyway) would prevent just the two of us from ever visiting again. However, this would be a great place to bring our families so that everyone could get something that they enjoy in a very comfortable environment.

Very decent steakhouse in Rapid City, SD. I sat at the bar, and was having trouble deciding what cut of steak to get, so I just went omakase style and asked the bartender what he recommended. He said«the buffalo ribeye, medium rare», and I said«make it so!» The ribeye was very good. Not the best buffalo ribeye I’ve ever had(that distinction goes to the gorgeous piece of meat I had at The White Buffalo in Jackson Hole), but it was damn good. Juicy, sweet, and nicely cooked. I like a little more outside char than what this steak had, but it was still very good. The wedge salad is merely ok. No bacon, and they could have been a little more generous with the blue cheese crumbles. Onion rings are very good — Panko crusted and thick. For dessert, I had the salted caramel cheesecake. It was good, but not fantastic. I’ll have to try the kuchen next time I visit.

Passing through on a road trip with my fiancé. This place is awesome! Open ceiling to the rafters with a huge fireplace, bar separated from the general seating, and great spacial layout. Not super fancy but in no way feels like a chain. The FOOD: we loved the Panko fried walleye, light and not greasy at all, 7 big pieces in the appetizer. The soup of the day was New England clam chowder, tasty but not like home. The Caesar salad us unique in taste and presentation, I loved the sharp flavors and the anchovy filet! The buffalo ribeye is worth the $ 45, 12oz cooked perfectly with a warm red center and a slight outer char with one side of choice(go for the blue cheese mashed potatoes). Their bourbon selection is good and wine list is inclusive from $ 6 a glass to $ 140 a bottle. A great place on the outskirts of Rapid City.

SOLID option for DELICIOUS chow in Rapid City, SD! It was our first night ever in South Dakota, so we celebrated the occasion at this local eatery as our initiation into the regional cuisine. The artistic bison sculpture out front is WAYCOOL, and an impressive way to greet patrons! A buncha fist pumps in the entry way makes you second guess the negative Unilocal reviews posted, hah! Country Western vibe inside was expected, but aesthetically pleasing. Tina was our waitress today, a complete joy to interact with and very attentive to our table. We ordered a few things… *STEAKHOUSEONIONRINGS: These are some BIG sized rings! Hefty serving, too! Despite this being beer battered, it had such a great crunch to it, I could just feel my fillings rattling right off! Oh, and that remoulade dipping sauce!!! It may sound sweet, but its got a tasty kick that kept me dunkin’ away. Yum! *KID’S GRILLEDCHEESE: No frills standard stuff here. Grilled golden brown with a pretty good layer of cheese, means they know that they’re doin’. The light eater claimed with a smile, «This tastes a lot better than my school’s!» Must’ve meant it was good because plate was empty on return. *PHILLYBURGER: This IS an IMPRESSIVE burger! HALF pound of custom ground and mixed beef came out THICK and cooked as requested. Shaved prime rib slices are soft and tender. Easily tore away with every bite. Also comes with sautéed onions, grilled mushrooms, and Monterey Jack cheese, but lil man ixnayed on the peppers. Still couldn’t finish this big boy, though, and I happily batted clean up! ALL good :) *BUFFALORIBEYESTEAK: My first go at buffalo steak and I enjoyed it! 12 oz. prepared as requested(I APPRECIATE when that happens.) throughout the steak. No gaminess to it, but rather, quite flavorful. Succulent & tender at every bite as well. Broccoli was steamed just right. As buffalo has less calories, fat, AND cholesterol than chicken OR fish, I could certainly eat this more often! Yeehah! *WALLEYE: Our first sampling of the native fish of the region so we weren’t sure what to expect. I don’t know if it was the way they prepared it with their butter sauce, but this fish was really moist & tender. The orange honey sauce topping enhanced the flavor, giving it a good citrus umph. Wifey(family fungus expert) thought the Mushroom Bread Pudding coulda used more mushrooms and less breading. Yes for walleye, pass on their bread pudding, she said. *KID’S FRIEDMAC n CHEESE: I thought this was the best mac & cheese EVER with its nice & crunchy shell YET still ooey gooey inside. BUT, it wasn’t my order, and Munchkin didn’t want anything dealing with the shell. A Mac & Cheese traditionalist, I guess. *TRIPLEBERRYKUCHEN: South Dakota’s State dessert is pronounced«cookin’.» Another first for us, and of all the kuchen we ended up samplin’ during our stay in SD, this was by far THEEBEST. Much lighter than all others we tried and the berries were a refreshing touch. WORTH a stop in! We woulda come back, too, but we had to broaden our local eatery knowledge first. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to return in the future ;)
