Rocky’s Ace Hardware

Came to the store for some hardware needs. Left with double of what I was going to buy for the exact same price. Thanks to the helpful help of mike at the register.

I want to like this place, i really do. It’s close to home, it’s a small non chain store and it reminds me of the hardware store where I grew up.
So what’s the problem? There are 2 basic problems here.
1. Limited selection. Now I know that this is NOT Home Depot and they don’t have millions of items, however the last three times I came here looking for specific items, they were out of stock. I’m not talking about left handed 3 knobbed hinkeybinkers here. I’m talking about a locking door handle for sliding doors, Propane tank adapter for the grill, etc.
2. Employee Knowledge and Helpfulness. Back in the old days (and even today if you go to the Swartz True Value in Newton) there were plenty of helpful and really knowledgeable folks who practically tripped over you to help out. You walk in and someone almost immediately says «Hi how can I help you today?» Then you say something like «I’m thinking about repainting my deck» This brings on a 15 minute conversation over deck type, paint type how to prep etc, and ends with you leaving with everything you need including some good advice. Last time I was in Rocky’s I wanted an adapter for my propane hookup for the grill. The girl pointed me to Isle 5 and told me that’s where it would be if they had it.
Now I sadly have to drive that extra 7 minutes to Home depot.

The sales staff are excellent here. They are willing to go out of their way. The last time we shopped here the sales staff helped us find a bundle pack of filters that was the better deal than buying separately. We always get a good buy on home supplies. Conveniently located in Sudbury Farms plaza. Join mailing list and you can get some good coupons!

Rocky’s Hardware is great if you can’t get to the bigger chains and need some odds and ends.
They also fix torn screens! So if you have any tears in your window screens! Go here!
The minute you walk in there is always someone right there asking you if you need help! They always have some sort of cool little «fun» sale item up front, too. The place is always pretty organized and pretty clean. They always have a great selection.
One tip is. if you see something on a clearance rack here and really want it. BUY IT THAT DAY. cause it goes quick! They had these great camping chairs and I kept going back and forth if I wanted them. and they were expensive chairs for like 15.00! I went back the next day. Poof! They were gone. I was kicking myself!
The only thing that I don’t like about Rocky’s is it’s always way more expensive here then the other places. BUT, they do have coupons if you use your «ACE» card. But, you also have to rack up some serious points to get there.

If you live in Randolph and want to avoid the large chain hardware stores get yourself to Rocky’s! My wife and I shop here constantly for odds and ends that we need around the house. The sales clerks are always around to help you and are there to explain exactly what you need to do… as opposed to walking miles and miles in the larger stores to hunt someone down (believe me it is no fun). They always mail coupons and have many sales and rebates for their «Ace» brand products. Go Rocky’s!
