The sushi was good for what it was and their happy hour is ok, service was bad even when it was super slow. It took the server almost 30 minutes to give us our check not only that we got dirty looks from both waitresses when we went looking for them to pay the bill. Bad attitude with poor service? No sweetheart. Also it was a huge disappointment walking out seeing the C rating that was hiding behind the tinted door covered by the happy hour sign outside. After reading other reviews I will not be returning. This place has to be shut down pretty soon.

Beer was terrible – it actually tasted like spoiled beer. Placed our order at 12:35, waited 5 minutes and ordered two small pieces of sushi. 35 minutes later I received those two pieces of sushi. 50 minutes after my initial order I got one of two plates. Never got the 2nd plate. Waiter never to be seen again. End of experience. Did I mention the beer sucked? PS. I was there after work for lunch with my African American friend. All the white people who got there AFTER us got their food BEFORE us lol I only noticed because the place was fucking EMPTY. Wonder why.

Every trip to SAMs sushi has been unpleasant. The service is crappy af and the sushi is mediocre. I used to be a happy customer until I realized how much it sucked. To end this review… Don’t go

Lets just say the sushi tasted great, beautiful presentation and actually the service was good. Went there after 8 for the 3 rolls for $ 28. Everything was perfect, but on the way out, I noticed a health score of C! Not cool, especially with seafood. The past 5 days my stomach has not been in the best of moods. They had an A rating since 2011, so dont know what dropped it to a C, but hopefully it gets changed because I really like their sushi.

Worst customer service. We went there at 8:42 the front person said they said last call was at 8:40 she said she has to check with a manager. Came back they gave us a table. After we were ready to order the waiter says we cannot order sushi they are out of rise. Does anyone go to a sushi restaurant to not eat sushi? Worst customer service.

Slowest service EVER!!! People who got here after me got their food 25 mins ago. All I’ve done is stare at my water for almost 45 mins! Still waiting for my food.

Food was exceptional and service was hospitable. Loved that the server was able to speak korean and be respectful towards my parents! The only problem was hair that was found in my tonkatsu. Having worked in a sushi resturant before, it’s understandable and it happens. :/

My second attempt to try this place out. Unilocal says they close at 10 pm I got there at 9:20 for a party of 2 and a child. The young gentleman at the reception area let us know that they are no longer serving due to «last call» which in my opinion is ridiculous oh and they have a sign up stating for a party of 6 or more they will add an 18% gratuity on to ur bill. So unfortunately I didn’t get to try this place out but after reading reviews on here I’m kinda glad I didn’t.

Sushi is great Happy hour 3 rolls for $ 28 is the best bet. Service is consistently terrible I come here frequently Always wait 10 – 15 minutes after being seated before server approaches table even on a slow night. The servers never check on you This time Angela was our server although she was nice we did saw her twice during the dining experience. Not really a server but more of an order taker. We even told her it was out anniversary.

Although the sushi is good, the service is consistently terrible and therefor, there are no redeemable qualities at this restaurant. 1. Upon entering, the restaurant reeks of sewage. Which I disregarded to give them a chance. 2. It took over an hour to get 2 rolls. 3. Our server purposely avoided us when she realized she forgot to put in our order. 4. After waiting for 40 minutes to get sriracha for my soup(it was cold now) I got up and asked the sushi chef at the sushi bar if he could get me some. He said«no.» He said he did not have time for me and that I should find my server and ask them. I actually had to sneak into an employee area and grab it myself. 5. Once the server got our food I let her know I wanted to speak to a manager. She informed me there was no manager on a Friday night during rush. I(very politely I might add) asked for a discount and i received a whopping 15% off. They informed us there was nothing else they could do. Overall, a bad experience. With all the sushi places in the desert, take your business elsewhere.

We’re done with this place! Tried to give them yet another shot again last night and we’re basically turned away because«they were surprised with a party of 16 and were overwhelmed.» Sushi is only average anyway. Way too many other good places to keep giving these guys the benefit of the doubt.

We’ve been coming here for years when we visit family. We come from LA with Little Tokyo down the street, so our bar is set pretty high when it comes to sushi. Although not a traditional sushi joint, their fusion of Japanese-American sushi is nothing short of delicious. Be sure to try the Sexy Spicy Salmon, Dune Palms, and Ojai. I would have given Sam’s 5 stars being a loyal customer and all, but we encountered one not-so-friendly waitress one time. Normally all the waitresses are really friendly and attentive.

Ridiculously slow service, server took ten minutes to get our water and completely forgot about my beer order. The both we were seated at had a huge rip in the vinyl and there were many other open booths they could have seated us at. The food was a bit expensive, and the quality of the fish was so so. Rolls were very loosely wrapped and fell apart upon being picked up. Miso soup was the only good part, and I’m sure it was a pre mixed packet. Sign outside says«Great Food, Great People, Great Service.» They had none.

Our server was super friendly in explaining the sushi experience to my lunch date. She had great recommendations and she was always there when we needed her. We got the baked lobster roll, the baked salmon roll, and the la Quinta roll for $ 25. We also had miso soup to start and I literally felt like my stomach was going to explode once we finished eating. Overall, great food and service and I’d definitely return!

I really enjoy the ambience… The sushi is great… Although I like their La Quinta restaurant a little better… Note that there are a few items that the Rancho Mirage location has available at the La Quinta location does not have available like deep-fried avocado balls… Those are wonderful you must try it if you are in Rancho Mirage at Sam’s Sushi. Other things to try here that are great: Baked Lobster Roll… Very good… Little Langostino Lobsters baked & then put on top California rolls… La Quinta store bakes them together so, it all comes out hot & yummy… Sunshine Roll… Yum! …Although the Lemon Slices to be eaten with the rolls aren’t sliced as thin as they slice them in their LQ store… Hungry Roll… Nice to have a deep fried yummy roll once in a while! Hot Green Tea tastes great & comes in a nice teapot… Wish the Teapot was Ceramic & not plasticky…(In the LQ store, they don’t have the teapots so, I nice waitress had to keep refilling my ceramic mug…) Seaweed Salad… Yummy Healthy goodness! That’s all for now…

One of the better sushi spots in the desert with great all-day happy hour deals at the sushi bar including a notable selection of 3 specialty rolls for ~$ 25. The quality of the fish ranges from average(maguro) to a bit above average(sake, hamachi, red snapper) and the sushi rice isn’t bad. My Sam’s roll was pretty tasty as well without an overload of imitation crab and nice, thick cuts of sake and maguro. Do note that the happy hour deals are available for take-out as well, def a plus. Worth coming back for the happy hour selection and for anyone wondering, a big step up from To Go Sushi in terms of fish quality.

Found this place strictly based off Unilocal reviews! I really liked it and I would come back(and even introduce my friends to this place)! First off, I had a hard time finding the restaurant since I’m new to the area. It’s off of hwy 111 and is closer to Dune Palms than your map quest would suggest. If you see Marshalls, you’re not in the right spot. Try to locate the pink T-Mobile and go toward H&R Block. Sam’s sushi is in the corner(don’t mistake this for Sam’s Korean BBQ or Sawa Sushi a couple buildings away by Game Stop! Btw, Sawa is closed on Mondays.). The windows and doors do not have any décor or signs, but they’re open! They have a huge Sam’s Sushi door mat out in front. We were seated right away, and even late afternoon~2:30 pm, we were able to order some lunch specials! Since I came with a party of 5, we got a booth table. They do have a sushi bar available though. There were only 2 servers, and they were both so quiet. They seemed shy. but they got their job done and performed well. One thing I was pretty disgusted with were the plates on the table. Mine(and 2 others) was still greasy! Maybe they’re not doing a good job with dish washing, but they need some new plates asap! Those plastic kinds never last long… Anyway, I wasn’t sharing anything, so I didn’t have to use it — thank goodness.(They will bring you new ones if you need them.) The sauce dishes were ok. None of those were as gross as the other plates. Now the food: I ordered the special cucumber roll. The photo on the back of the menu caught my eye because it was wrapped in cucumber rather than seaweed and rice. I kinda hate how nigiri is always served with too much rice, but this roll was perfect: it didn’t have any rice. I get my sashimi fix(salmon, tuna, yellowtail) and even the crunch factor of the cucumber. Add some wasabi, and you get deliciousness in your mouth! For 6 pieces, it was worth the ~$ 12. The fresh water eel roll was a bit disappointing. If I hadn’t taken out the contents of the roll, then I would probably not have noticed all that there was only fatty /skin parts of the eel. There was maybe 1 piece that actually had eel meat.(Maybe eels don’t have much meat but I wasn’t comfortable eating cubes of fat) The avocado in the roll only made it taste really mushy and even more creamy. There were 8 small pieces that cost ~$ 10. I would suggest trying a different roll, even if you’re an unagi lover. This one just wasn’t worth it. I tried some of the yaki soba with chicken.(Add $ 1 for beef and $ 2 – 3 for shrimp) The flavor was way too strong. I didn’t like that the teriyaki flavor was so overpowering, and the thin noodles were too chewy. Besides chicken(which was really salty), there was zucchini, onions, and bell peppers. I wouldn’t recommend this. The udon was great. It’s served hot, so be careful not to burn your tongue! There was 5~6 pieces of tempura; one of which was shrimp. When I asked for a tempura sauce, the waitress brought out a little bowl with brown liquid that tasted exactly like the udon soup. I just used the soy sauce(already on the table-green lid for less sodium) since the udon soup was a little too bland. The udon bowl was a pretty average size but filled almost to the top. I’d say portion size was pretty good for ~$ 10. From what I gathered from my group who decided on the lunch specials(3 items for ~$ 11), the sashimi was worth the extra $ 3. You get fresh salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. Don’t get the california roll(4 pieces), unless you love crab meat and don’t like sashimi(but if you didn’t, why would you come to a Japanese sushi restaurant? xp) Both the salad and the dressing in the lunch special bento box were good. The 3-piece sushi was worth it too. The spicy tuna(4) pieces were good as well. Overall good food with pretty ok, average prices. They do have a vast selection of items on their menu, including boats and large sashimi platters. Seems like this is the place to go for good sushi if you’re in the area!
