With 6 kids they wanted Chinese and since it’s close to Ranch 99 why not I can walk to buy grocery after. My first impression thought it was closed for the day. Seeing three separate people sleeping on the bench with their feet dangling made me and the 3 older we simultaneously looked at each other with our eye brows raised followed by a giggle. None the less we decided to give it a try. The gentlemen was friendly love his smiling face. I had to ask If we came at a time when the restaurant was closed. He explained usually between 3 – 5 they close. I take it as their siesta. Ok! Kids ordered beef chow mein not much flavor with too much cabbage if u ask me. The honey walnut shrimp was a hit by all 6. The pork spare ribs in Shanghai sauce was sweet and tasty by half agree the other half thought it was dry and over cooked. Overall it’s not bad the service was great. I will go back again to try their other dishes.

I’ve been to this restaurant many times. Again, with a 300 + item menu, there are hits and misses. I wish the chef would just narrow down the menu and cook the dishes properly. There are like 3 versions of every dish on the menu. Sometimes, I will receive a dish without any seasoning at all. The spicy fish stew is good but it is very spicy. The jelly fish delight appetizer is decent. I have had better versions elsewhere. Mushroom and chicken stew is pretty good. White fish with broccoli is pleasant.

I stopped here on a whim for the first time. The décor is sparse but the menu is extensive. There were a lot f choices on the lunch menu also at different price points. I thought I would try something new, clams with black bean sauce only to find out they were out of clams. Mind you, the restaurant is almost adjacent to the Ranch 99 market. I settled for beef and broccoli on the lunch menu which includes soup and rice. The soup was egg drop but I am allergic to eggs so I asked if the could make a substitution. I was told no, not even hot and sour soup. OK. Main dish arrives. Good portion size, but the beef is tough and flavorless and the sauce was too. When the bill came, I asked if they would reduce it by $ 1 since I didn’t have soup and they did so happily. Not sure if they made the«Americanized» recipe or not, but I will try the restaurant 2 doors down first before retuning here.

We were very hungry and stopped in for a late lunch, around 2:30. The restaurant was empty except for another party of two. The waitresses were busy with their laptop. Ordered only two dishes, chicken chow mein, and cold noodle soup. I asked for a Coke(a menu item) and was told they only have ice water and hot tea! I ate the chicken chow mein, was greasy but I liked it. My gf didn’t like her noodle soup, she said it wasn’t cold. It was served with a glass of ice. Was expensive, about $ 17 for two. Next we headed across the lot to 99 Ranch Market.

My family and I went there to have lunch today and suddenly a cockroach cross over my plate and stayed on our dish. I called the waiter over and he refused to give us any compensation! What a customer service! What a dirty place to eat! Will never go back again!

Great place for authentic Chinese food, quite a rarity in the Inland Empire. The staff is friendly and very attentive. I really enjoyed the xiaolongbao soup dumplings here. Most restaurant’s xiaolongbao are either a hit or a miss, the ones here are absolutely delicious and not hard skinned like some other places. Northeastern is another fine treasured addition to baseline plaza. This restaurant can go head to head with any restaurant from the San Gabriel Valley or Rowland Heights

When we moved from NYC to LA and then from LA to Rancho, we fully expected to have to make occasional pilgrimages into the SG valley to get decent Chinese food. We had no idea that we moved literally across the street(on Base Line Road) from some of the finest Chinese food we’ve ever experienced, anywhere. Serendipitous indeed. Miraculous more accurately stated. The tiny mall that houses treasures like I(love) Hot Pots and Red Chillies saw this place open recently. Even one of these places would have been considered a ‘find’ but three of them? WOW. That said, each has it’s own distinct and lovely character. North Eastern dishes out some of the very finest expressions of Chinese cuisine, rivaling NYC and San Francisco. Nice people, good service but the food is the star of this show. Literally everything we tried exhibits sophisticated, master cheffing in play here. One can go on and wax poetic of the cumin potatoes which are in their own class. The scallion pancakes redefine scallion pancakes. On & on we saw this chef up some of the very finest expressions of Chinese cuisine we’ve experienced. I feel as if I’m shorting this place, it’s that good. I dislike reviews reciting a litany of what one ordered there so I try to avoid it yet I feel not enough has been said to truly express how sophisticated and repeatedly superb anything we’ve yet tried here has been. So far, there’s no dish that did not excel if not amaze. If one does have the good fortune to come this way, although these restaurants do indeed serve both meat and fish dishes, Red Chillies is a better choice for a pure vegetarian experience. That said, North Eastern is perhaps the opposite in that meat is difficult to avoid, if one wishes to avoid it that is. Nonetheless North Eastern Chinese is easily one of the very finest Chinese restaurants around. Anywhere. It is, that good.

We just found this place although they have been here for 4 months. Food’s great so as the service! The portions are huge that you need larger family to eat with you or you would have to eat leftovers for days, LOL. Typically saying we don’t like to eat overnight food. All dishes are delicious. We will definitely go back to try other things on their extensive menu. Glad they are here to serve the authentic northern Chinese food! Thank you! BTW, their washroom was super clean unlike others you’d experienced!

As a Chinese family, my family’s been looking everywhere for a good Chinese food restaurant that isn’t in Rowland Heights or Diamond Bar, closer to home. And I think we’ve just found a place! I know the menu may look intimidating(I’m still amazed by how they manage to have so many menu items!) but you won’t go wrong with the following. These were some dishes we ordered that we were very pleased with: Orange chicken — crispy and delicious Green chives turnover — basically a giant green onion friend dumpling French beef cubes — for all the meatlovers BBQ pork chow mein — yummy thick noodles Sautéed string beans — crunchy and not soggy or over done If you have a problem communicating with the waitresses(like some of the other reviewers), all you really need to know how to do is point to which items you want on the menu. It’s not as hard as they make it seem. I would also suggest ordering family style(meaning multiple dishes for everyone to share) for those who are not so familiar. The portions were a lot larger than we expected! I’ll definitely be going back again!

I always want to check out new places. However, this place was horrible in every which way. We were seated and asked for beef noodle soup. Staple dish for any Chinese restraunts. We got our food in 10 minutes. Bland noodles with unusually greasy broth, but we were pretty hungry already so we wolfed it down. Right now I am anticipating to run into the restroom in any second. I have been throwing up and had the squirts all night. If you can’t even get noodle soup right, I care not think of the rest. Very sub par service too. The waiter was a young person around 27 years old. As he brought out our bowls of noodle soup be grasped the bowl in a way that he stuck his thumbs in the soup. Disgusting. Sorry to say this but the restaurant didn’t look popular. It was empty, except for pesky flies. Won’t return again.

My friend and I arrived for lunch and enjoyed the special. Free soup, side of rice, and large portions on what ever you order. I got the Spicy Beef and my friend got the Fried Tofu. Both were very well prepared and it really tasted like when I was traveling through China again. We had a great time.

Food was good. Beef was really chewy in the chow mein though. I’m addicted to the steamed pork buns #344. They are nice but don’t really come back to check if you need anything after they serve your food. I gave it a 4 because of the pork buns… Sooo good!

In terms of food, this restaurant is decent. They have a large selection in their menu, and the food is not too salty and oily. And the accept credit card, which is nice since a lot of asian places are cash only. The $ 40+ Peking Duck had to be pre-ordered through the phone so we were expecting it to be quite good, but it didn’t live up to expectation. The quantity was quite small. Service was not good. Even though you don’t usually expect great service in most asian restaurants, this place was pretty bad. The servers were nice but inexperienced. We had to ask the same waitress 4 times for the check and she still didn’t give it to us, and we ended up just going up and asking the owner in front of the cash register.

We had no idea North Eastern was opening in the 99 Ranch Plaza on Baseline and Archibald in RC. We were going to go to Bobaland next door, and have some noodles. However, when we saw it was open, we said WTH! For an appetizer, we ordered jellyfish w/vinegar($ 7.98). For our main course, we ordered sparerib and wintermelon soup($ 8.98) on a cold day. Although the jellyfish was fresh, it was not what we expected. Maybe I have had this dish at too many Cantonese restaurants, but I was not expecting big hunks of jellyfish. We dipped it in hot chili oil which made the jellyfish more tasty, but I wouldn’t order this dish again: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the soup was excellent. My friend’s Mom makes this soup and North Eastern’s version was pretty close. This soup is great when you have a cold, or when it is cold outside. The broth was nicely infused, the spareribs were void of any fat, and the wintermelon was fresh and wasn’t overcooked: 5 Stars. The ambiance is atypical Chinese restaurant. There were 6 booths, 7 tables and one big round table: 3 Stars. The service was as my yf Cherylynn N. says, Chinesey. The jellyfish took a long time to arrive. But other than that the waitress and servers were nice and pleasant: 3 Stars. I am sitting on the fence on my review, but I just can’t give this place 4 Stars: 3.5 Stars overall. However, I would come back and try the hot pots(inc frog), lamb, or if I can get a group together, the Peking Duck. I like the food here better compared to Red Chilli House(Szechuan), a couple of doors down. North Eastern is a nice addition to the plaza.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of more authentic Chinese places around here as making the commute to LA for good chinese food can be challenging, especially with the baby in tow. First thing is that they have a massive menu. I mean truly bloated. They had Peking Duck, and we ordered it served 3 ways(in soup with duck bone, stir fried w/back meat, & skin with buns). Why did I order it? Why oh why? All of the warning signs were there. The massive menu. The short time frame they could prep and make it(most traditional places that make the peking duck require you to reserve it in advance). It didn’t specialize in this dish(there are restaurants who are solely dedicated to serving peking duck). But I had to be stubborn and give it a shot. I was intractable and that should be as a cautionary tale for everyone to stop when they start having these clues tell them that continuing would be a fool’s game. Needless to say, the duck sucked big time. The bone soup had very little flavor and the skin was in bad condition(greasy, not crispy, and poor coloring). The best thing about the duck and our meal was the back meat stir fried with basil. That was actually tasty. And the rest of the meal was just meh. I hope they get their act together!

We found out about this restaurant only yesterday and decided to try it today. When we got there around 4 pm the place was empty, but while dining there was an intermittent stream of take-out customers, and by the time we left they will filling up tables. Communication is a problem for non-Chinese speakers, though. I ordered Wor Won Ton the minute we walked in and it came AFTER our entrees. My husband tried ordering three different scallops entrees and only after the third time did we figure out that the restaurant was out of scallops. The menu has lunch specials ranging in price from $ 5.99 to $ 8.99, which are served from 10:30 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday. At all other times, all entrees are served a la carte, and even rice has to be ordered separately. There are no family dinners or dinner specials. The Wor Won Ton was packed with dumplings and vegetables, and very tasty, but there was a real lack of pieces of shrimp, chicken, and pork as one would find at most Chinese restaurants. I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp and was pleased. It was nice and spicy and they did not skimp on the shrimp. My husband ordered the House Special Shrimp and we were both disappointed with it. It was in a sauce that was overpowered by the taste of pineapple and a flavor I have yet to identify. Still, his entrée was large and filled with lots of shrimp as well. My biggest concerns with this establishment are that the menu, which is extremely large with hundreds of entrees, has the names of entrees in English but with no descriptions, very few of the wait staff seemed to speak English easily, and the steamed rice does not automatically come with any entrée. Yet, aside from the House Shrimp, the rest of the meal was pretty good.

Really delicious and authentic Chinese food! We(Chinese family) were on our way back from Vegas when we stopped by here. We were pleasantly impressed! Ambience: 3(Classic Chinese, noisy and lively) Service: 4 Food: 4.5 My two favorite dishes we ordered were the BaSiShanYao(sticky caramel root thing) and JaJiangMien. It is good that we came early for dinner because the place got really packed — not bad for a restaurant that has been open for only a month!

I wish I could give this place 3 stars but when rating the whole experience I can’t. The food was OK and the staff speaks almost no English. I am ok with that if they can understand basics, but they don’t. We had the seafood and tofu soup(lots of fake crab, a couple of chopped up shrimp and squid. We ordered Chinese broccoli(actually it is American broccoli). Also we had the shrimp chow mien– 2 shrimps and a lot of noodle. The flavors were OK. I expect at the beginning a few problems but the service was horrible. They overcharged us, and then they said they would give is a discount(2%off). When we asked what type of seafood was in the soup– nobody knows. Maybe they didn’t know the words in English. Anyway I was hoping to have a good Chinese restaurant in Rancho but I guess I will stick with china gate in upland.
