First, let me start by saying that I am the easiest to please customer any company would want to have. I am NOT pleased with Hall’s My husband and son-in-law bought Hall’s safes in 1999. We LOVED the quality, the choices and the customer service. I have since moved and needed a new safe. I wouldn’t even imagine going anywhere else but Hall’s. My first mistake was ordering one over the phone. The sales person did not advise me of the choices I had. I had limited space for one, so I measured carefully to be able to fit my treasured items in the safe. Not being a professional safe person, I didn’t even think about the fact that the inside measurements are waaay smaller than the outside measurements. I feel like an idiot now. It should have been obvious. But the salesman could have guided me through the process. He didn’t ask what kind of lock I wanted. I wanted a digital, but didn’t ask for that so it came with a traditional combination lock. Again, I’ll take the blame for that. Fast forward 10 months… the lock stopped working! I called to make an appointment and the day the repair person was to come, he called in sick. OK. I rescheduled. Today he was supposed to come. Been waiting all morning. I finally called to confirm and was told the guy was sick again. No call to me. Just keep me waiting. I am so furious, I can’t even say. I haven’t been able to get into my safe for over 2 months. I am so disappointed and angry.

When we had our Hall’s safe made in 2001, the company had a different owner. I happily recommended Hall’s Safe to family and friends. But things have changed. Last week I could not open the safe so I called the current owner. He gave me a suggestion but, unfortunately, it did not work. I called him back and kept getting voice mail. I left a message and asked that he call me. He never did and it was obvious that he was ignoring me. Really? If you don’t know how to help a customer, just say so. Ignoring customers is not a good business practice. I bought a Hall’s Safe because of its reputation. Now the current owner has given the Hall’s Safe Company name a new reputation — a bad one in my opinion.

I will be purchasing a very large, secure gun safe in the next year, so now is research time. My current safe is from Costco. It cost $ 1000 and has worked great for many years. Now it’s contents are valuable enough to warrant more protection and I need more space. Cheap safes(generally $ 2000 and under) are great to a point. They will protect you from a quick smash and grab, but a even slightly determined robber can get through them. Search YouTube and you will be shocked. I want something that can survive a decent attack, and is very big. I just got back from Hall’s Safe Company. There isn’t much of a sign for the place, and when you walk in there were only 2 safes in a small entry area. Not a showroom like I was expecting. A guy(not the young guy from the other review) came in seconds later, and I said I was interested in a safe. He explained that they don’t resell safes, they make them. He politely but bluntly asked how much I was looking to spend. As someone who has just done a ton a research, I understand exactly why he asked this question. Good safes cost many thousands of dollars. If someone is looking to spend $ 500-$ 1500 they need to go to Costco or another safe store that sells lines of cheap safes. And for what those customers want, those cheap safes are probably just fine. Asking this question lets the customer and the sales guy quickly know if a Hall’s safe is what they are looking for. I said I was looking to spend $ 4000-$ 6000 and he told me to head on back to the work area with him. This company looks like it does a lot of different metal work in addition to making safes. There were a number of large boats and other various projects being worked on. We reached the safe manufacturing area and there were a few safes in mid build. Steel boxes and doors, no finish. The guy showed me a few things about how they build them and explained the different strengths and methods, and what is important. We then went back to a room that had a bunch of finished safes of different sizes, designs and colors. I must say, they are beautiful. The guy explained how the thickness of the metal in the walls and door of the safe, and around the door frame are really important. These are where cheaper safe manufacturers save most of their money. We talked about Chinese vs American steel, and the different safe manufacturers and their different lines, and which were good/bad/etc. Everything he said was in line with what my research has taught me. Hall’s safes have the nicest interiors of any safe I have seen. The shelves are made of solid wood and the fabric/carpet is the nicest. You can have them layout the interior however you want, which is excellent. They have a device called a gun swinger that is too difficult to explain, but the coolest rifle storage system I have ever seen in a safe. The only area I felt they were lacking in is the inside behind the door. In recent years the big safe companies have started installing fantastic door storage systems standard with their safes. They are awesome. Lots and lots of holsters for pistols, and various other bags and pockets for other things that would require to you put them in boxes or roll around, taking up valuable rifle and pistol space. The guy said he wasn’t a big fan of those systems, and that they didn’t work well. Maybe he hasn’t seen the new ones in recent years, because the back of the door storage systems are a monster selling point for me. To Hall’s defense, I’ll bet they could customize the inside of the door better than the standard storage systems I like so much. We’ll see. Hall’s Safes are custom made. He said they average making one per day. They are expensive, and they take time to build. I believe they occasionally go to large expos like the recent one at Cal-Expo, and have some safes on hand to sell, but I think usually they will make the safe specific for the customer which takes time. If you want a safe tomorrow you will probably have to go elsewhere. If you get a Hall’s safe, I think it will cost around the same +/-as other more name brand safes of the same size, but the Hall’s safe will have thicker steel all around, have a nicer interior and equal or better exterior finish. I haven’t sat down and gotten an exact quote yet, so I can’t say that for sure, but it is the feeling I get from asking him about the cost of the safes he was showing me. I am impressed. I will be going back when I am ready and at a minimum I will get a quote to compare to other safes I am considering. If you like nice safes, especially if you appreciate custom dimensions, interiors, and finishes, you should really check this place out.

What the heck is going on with this place… I came here looking to buy a safe. Sat in an odd-smelling room for almost 15 minutes before somebody came to help us. I was certain that I had come to the wrong place by mistake. I kept on repeating«he knew I said I was looking for a safe, not a boat stereo, right?» The first thing the young guy asked us is if we wanted to spend a lot of money on a safe, making it clear that if we weren’t, he wasn’t going to spend any time on us. I think that the same company that makes the safes here also installs boat accessories, because their manufacturing area is full of boats and quads. They showed us a few safes that they were currently building, and I was really impressed. Very high quality, fine finish, and cool features you probably can’t find off the shelf. Unfortunately they weren’t able to give me pricing or availability information, and couldn’t tell me when I could get this important information, or from who. It’s a little difficult to hand over a check for a few thousand dollars to a 20-something year old and expect something in return months later… I left here feeling like they didn’t take me seriously. If only they knew that I spent thousands on a safe later that day.
