I walked from my desk with anticipation, hoping for an amazing food experience as it was Food Truck Tuesday! When I walked up to the counter of the Rolling Bistro I asked the food truck owner if the sandwich, The Godfather, was any good. He told me that it was outstanding. I trusted him, but in hindsight I realize that wasn’t a good idea. The sandwich kind of a sloppy mess that had a few flavors that didn’t really seem to fit together. I ate it because I was hungry… had I been at home I would have tossed it. Next time this truck comes down the road I’ll be looking the other way.

Rolling Bistro is amazing! My favorite Black Bean burger EVER which is high praise since I come from the Bay Area in California and they are prevalent.

They showed up in our office parking lot so I thought to give it a try since the menu looked fantastic. I got the chicken sandwich and the magic mushrooms. The food tasted good but I was definitely feeling the magic later that night in the bathroom. Additional note, I noticed that both of the guys in the truck were not wearing gloves while handling the food. Needless to say, I’m skipping this one at the next food truck rodeo.

After learning that the Rolling Bistro was coming to my place of work for lunch and seeing the menu, I was really excited! The menu is small, mostly sandwich based, although they do have sides such as fried pickles, tricolor pasta salad and an assortment of bags of chips. With such a small menu, I expected everything to be nothing short of amazing. I got: The Fat Mac: «Our soon to be famous blend of five cheeses, pancetta, and cavatelli pasta, beer battered and quick fried and served with garlic alfredo dipping sauce.» $ 8.00 And Magic Mushrooms: «Baby bella mushrooms stuffed with a secret blend of cheeses, sausage and spices, beer battered and quick fried, and served with Love Potion #9 sauce.» $ 4.00 The Fat Mac sounded incredibly amazing to me, however I was left deeply unimpressed. It came with 4 fried macaroni fritters which were very decent in size and a decent side of alfredo dipping sauce. I was so excited for the bacon flavor that I was sure would be imparted by the pancetta, but I only detected 1 piece of pancetta in all three of the fritters I had(I gave one to my coworker) and didn’t taste any pancetta flavor anywhere else. The cheese in the«macaroni and cheese» did not taste cheesy but tasted more like a béchamel sauce. My coworker who had my 4th fritter also agreed. The garlic alfredo was tasty and was the best part about this fried mac and cheese dish. With a name like Magic Mushrooms, one would think they’d have to be amazing, right? Wrong! Although they were nice and crispy on the outside, the inside left a lot to be desired. I tasted neither cheese nor sausage which I was really looking forward to. This dish came with 4 mushrooms, and I again shared one with a coworker(a different one) and she stated that although she doesn’t eat fried foods she felt like this just didn’t have any flavor. The Magic Potion #9 was a creamy dip that tasted of onions and didn’t add much flavor to the mushrooms so I didn’t use it. Both these dishes had an old grease taste that wasn’t very appetizing. Based on these two menu options I really wouldn’t recommend Rolling Bistro unless you want flavorless old grease tasting food.

The Rolling Bistro is a food truck that specializes in sandwiches. The menu items sound really good, like the Godfather, which is slow roasted pork, roasted peppers and tomatoes, carmelized onions, topped with marinara sauce and melted provolone on a toasted Hogie roll. Unfortunately they skimp on the meat, and I didn’t even see any provolone on it. Weird thing is my boss got the same thing, and had double the amount of meat I did. They have a tasty sounding fried mac and cheese on the menu, but for some reason they didn’t have it available. The cuban sandwich didn’t look good at all. Next time I’d like to try the chicken sandwich, it actually looked good! But at prices of $ 8 for just a sandwich, I expect a lot more than I got. And don’t bother ordering the pasta salad, it comes out in a very small plastic container(the kind used for sauces).
