I’ve been going to this place since I was a little girl, and I’m now 20& still love it! Great place to go for some old fashion good home cookin! The owners are so kind & go out their way to greet you to insure your meal is excellent! They have a little bit of everything on the food bar, so you’re sure to find something you’ll love! xx

The first time my husband convinced me to go here I was expecting institutional slop. Surprisingly the food wasn’t too bad. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a cafeteria but for $ 20 we have more than enough food for two adults and a vacuous toddler. Which would explain why on a Sunday evening the place is packed with young families. Highlights include the fried okra, fried pork chops, fried chicken(sensing a theme yet?) and the custard pie. Vegetables are your stereotypical stewed to hell and back Southern variety so I typically avoid. The mac and cheese is the worst I’ve ever had in my life, like worse than box mac and cheese and I’m not sure how they accomplish that.

Very good food I love the fact that the temperatures of the food are much better than kw. The friendly service also makes a difference too. I am definitely a return customer.

Not awful, not great. Squash casserole and turnip greens moderate, fried catfish excellent. Dessert, lemon meringue did not knock your socks off. Roast beef a bit dry. I probably wouldn’t go back unless i was pressed for time.

Best Cafeteria in the triangle. I haven’t had a meal yet that I didn’t like. Beats K&W hands down.

Delicious. Southern cooking and hospitality at its best. Fried chicken, coconut pie, turnip greens, mashed potatoes, fried okra, macaroni, yeast rolls. Sweeeet tea. Great people. Well run. Not your average cafeteria. Everything tastes fresh and from scratch.

Excellent value for price paid. Mr. Smith has his recipes really in order! Peanut butter cheesecake is tops. Frisco chicken and ham are always great.

We went to D&S tonight for dinner. The food was alright. Nothing special. Home cooking kind of selections. The blueberry«cheesecake» is more of a blueberry cream cake. If there was cream cheese I couldn’t taste it. The servers are terrible. Everyone around us had pitchers of water and tea. We were 2⁄3 through our meal when we finally got up to refill our own drinks. We most likely won’t return.

Great tasting food and plenty of choices. I love their calves liver and onions… so tasty and not bitter. Always a crowd here. I keep telling myself I will try something else but I keep getting the same thing because it’s so good. The chicken stew looked awesome as did the fried catfish. Lots of prepared salads like broccoli salad, pasta salad, strawberry salad… the list goes on. Food is tasty and the prices are great. I can’t eat at McDonald’s or Burger King much cheaper… and well… that’s like comparing a sock and a pair of pants.

Unless u r over 70 or feeling really geriatric, please avoid this place. Food is very bland, and tenderized beyond recognition. Hubby’s was suppose to be fried chicken, it was so soft and pounded lto death he didn’t even have to chew. Do u get the idea. We were the youngest people there. More blue hairs than a Billy Graham Crusade. Roast beef cooked to death. Hard and rubbery, I will say the price reflects the quality. So if grandma is hungry, she will be happy here. U on the other hand better bring some immodium.

This place is amazing and deserves a beyond perfect score. Family owned and operated and it shows. Food is one of my favorites when I want«homestyle» and they have never disappointed. I’ve eaten here for over a decade and not once was I slightly disappointed. Well done and highly recommended.

I’m from LOSANGELES where food choices are in abundance. However, NOWHERE in L.A., do we have Southern Cooking like this! OMG! It’s like a Foodie having a Southern Food dream! The choices are endless and the food is great! Check out this Cafeteria, you’re in for a wonderful surprise! As for the«1 star haters» who focus on the age of the patrons rather than the food, get real, this is not a nightclub or trendy bar where one may actually care about the age of the people in attendance… this is a CAFETERIA! T.W., you too will be over 70 one day IF you’re lucky. But for those who actually care about something as silly as this, fyii I was there twice in 1 week. I saw young couples with babies, seniors(the majority) and everything in-between.ask me if I care, I don’t, I’m there to EAT not Party! So far as the food being bland, it was seasoned well enough and NOT over salted or over sugared. which I’ve experienced a lot with southern food at other establishments. Perhaps those who think the food is bland may need to cut down on their Salt intake.

This is formerly K&S Cafeteria. A few years ago, it was purchased by an employee and became D&S. You can tell this man had ideas to improve it when he was an employee because improvements have been popping up ever since. Tables, seating cushioning and even new culinary recipes. We go here about once a week with our grandfather and bring our 1 year old. They have nice high chairs on wheels that you can seat your child in while in line. Sometimes the line can move quickly and sometimes it can take a while, but normally long lines usually say something: People want to eat here. It is incredibly cheap, and there is nothing mass-produced here. Everything has a nice, homemade feel and one rule from the(new) boss: If you do not have a great attitude, you can’t work here. We always get great service from a cheerful staff that stays on top of refills! Their website features their weekly menu if you are looking for something special, and they offer a large assortment of desserts, with entire baked pies/cakes for purchase as well. This is a great family place that always has something for everyone.

Was dragged here when I was visiting family in town. I did not like the place, but honestly, I don’t have much experience with cafeteria dining. After waiting in line for a few minutes, I finally get up to where you order your food, and the experience was a bit overwhelming for me. I didn’t really know what I wanted, and you better know when it is your turn, because the line doesn’t wait. I thought the food was pretty bland and was not impressed. Overall, this is not a place I would return to. I would much rather go to a buffet where I can wonder around and find what I want.

I have tried to give this place a chance a few times and it just falls short. The food lacks seasoning and flavor. The desserts are decent… skip the rolls, they are less than desirable.

Aha, D&S Cafeteria! This innocuous brick building off of Buck Jones Road contains a myriad of Southern eats and meats for seniors in the area. Step inside and work your way through the serpentine line to the service area up front. An LCDTV lets you know what’s on the menu today, grab a salad, main(lasagna, fried chicken, baked spaghetti, chicken pie) along with some sides(mac n cheese, green beans, yam soufflé, etc) and then finish off with a slice of pie and drink. You get a bill but don’t pay until you leave, grab an open table and it’s time to feast. For $ 11 I had a TON of food. A large pile of chicken pie, lots of yam soufflé, mac n cheese, fruit salad, corn bread along with a large piece of apple pie. And here’s where it gets tricky. I enjoyed the chicken pie and yam soufflé but it’s all a bit bland and under-seasoned. And soft. The food at D&S is best for senior citizens and people who have chewing challenges. So while the service is solid, the food well done, I just don’t have a huge interest in Southern cafeteria eats. But if you like this style of food, you’ll love D&S. Just understand that you’re getting quantity over taste…

First off, yes, this is a cafeteria. And the five star rating is within the category of «cafeteria». I would never compare a cafeteria to a high-end steakhouse. That being said, let me tell you what I love about D&S: It’s fantastic in its category. It’s cafeteria food that screams«Somebody’s grandma made this.» Not much here is processed, and the food looks and tastes fantastic, not like some glop that’s been sitting in a tepid tin for three hours. My wife had visited when it was K&S. We found out that it had been purchased by two long-time employees, and re-opened. She said the food was even better than when it was the under the K&S name. Know that I am generally suspicious of any food that involves waiting in a line. The closest I would get to a Golden Corral is to hold up a sign that says«Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.» Yet, I am genuinely impressed by the quality of food that is served here. The seafood is properly fried, the vegetables well-seasoned and fresh, and salads are crisp and delicious. The atmosphere is warm, bustling and welcoming: a cross-section of all members of society. If you miss your Granny’s cooking, this place will make up for it in some small way. The desserts are, for lack of a better word, amazing. My wife has been after me to drive back up there, just for another piece of their buttery coconut pie. All. Day. Long. The tea’s fresh and sweet, the food is excellent, and people are friendly. I’m not saying it’s a place to power lunch, but it’s as good a place as any to drop your food snobbery, and just enjoy a meal with friends.

I like D&S. There are a lot of adjectives to describe what D&S is not: pretentious, stuffy, gourmet; black-tie, upscale, pricey; but there are only a few to describe what it is: plain, no frills, filling, and inexpensive. D&S is a cafeteria. It unabashedly doesn’t try to be anything more. They serve a lot of variety in each category of a well balanced meal: salads, main course, veggies, breads, desserts, beverages; although you can pretty much negate the well-balanced aspect with some of the choices. There are daily specials and a menu item especially for kids that even includes ice cream. Any time I’ve been here, I’ve been able to leave full, reasonably pleased with how well I managed to eat something from each of the major food groups, and still have change coming at the checkout. I prefer D&S to K&W, they serve the same kind of food in the same way, but I think D&S has a slight advantage when it comes to flavor. I notice that most when I get the baked chicken or the mac-n-cheese. K&W seems to bland it down a tad more than D&S. I like D&S and especially on those days when I’m not looking to be wowed by a restaurant, just satisfied.
