Anti Aging and Functional Medicine

I am a former patient of one of the doctors at this practice, Dr. Z, and left the practice five years ago due to my insurance changing. I have no complaints about his medical care but have serious complaints regarding their office policies. Patient beware: This practice does not appear to have a medical records retention policy. I requested my records in early 2015 and was told by the office manager, «they were probably destroyed». I was not an active patient at this time but American Medical Association guidelines state that medical records should be kept at least five years, and immunization records should always be kept. North Carolina Dept. of Health and Human Resources guidelines state these records must be kept for 11 years. When I asked the office manager about their office policy on records retention, twice, she never responded to my inquiries. Apparently I had become a nuisance for wanting to have a record of my care. Bottom line, if you value having access to your medical records in the future, you may not be able to rely on their office to ensure they are maintained.
