35 – 40 minutes for a pick-up order of Chicken Fried Rice… for what? Delivery-ok I get it but PICKUP?! C’mon, you can’t be serious… The food is great from what I remember but that ridiculous wait and less than courteous attitude from the individual who answered the phone ruined my appetite. If you’re looking for decent serving time & a pleasant customer service experience, please reconsider going here.

The food was so good her! I had the chicken platter. The customer service was just ok, the guy had a little attitude as if we was annoying him, but it didnt ruin our dining experience.

The customer service is terrible!!! The delivery times are ridiculous and the restaurant set up is very awkward. The food is pretty good. I usually order the spicy garlic chicken with house rice.

I’ve been here a few times but have never been super impressed with the food. The few items I’ve had have been okay but lack that certain something to make you smack your lips. My buddy(with whom I’ve been each time) likes it here more than I do, so perhaps it’s just a difference of palates. Portion sizes are decent for the price so there is that.

This restaurant sucks! The lady manager was so nasty and greedy. The food was okay but so expensive and gave you so little for your money. The décor is horrible. It’s in the basement of a 3 star Hotel. I will never go back here again. not worth your time and money. also, there were only 2 of us that ate there and she mandatory charged us a 20% tip.

This place is terrible, just terrible. The food at one point in time used to be good, but since the chef they have now is too lazy to put any effort into their dishes, it just tastes disgusting. Everything from the pepper shrimp, low mein, chicken wings. like really? How do you mess up on chicken wings? And the shrimp used in the low mein… frozen from a box/bag. Yuck. Not even fresh. The low mein noodles were hard, cold, and stuck together. means it was leftover probably from the day or few days before and they pass it off to their customers as being fresh. When management was addressed about how terrible the food is now, he did not care. As long as he has his money at the end of the day, what does he care? This place will eventually just be good for one thing. those who want to suck rum at the bar… old drunk men. Ahh well. There goes another West Indian restaurant in Queens Village down the drain. Guess if I want West Indian food I will just have to cook it myself before I pay for a dish at this place and risk getting food poisoning. DON’T BEFOOLEDBYTHEPHOTOSYOUSEE. ITMAYLOOKGOOD, BUTTASTESABSOLUTELYHORRIBLE!

Myself and husband and family and friends are regulars at the other location .This was our first time here we were greeted and seated rudely… NONEOFTHEWORKSHAVEMANNERS. The food took forever to make it to our table .The waitress we had slammed drinks the food tasted like it was left overs, and they reheated it in the microwave .I would never recommend this place .I would say better off making the trip to Richmond hill location !!!’

The food is OK but the delivery guy they have is the worse with his attitude, if u don’t want to b a delivery guy then go to school n educate yourself to do something differently… Customers don’t beg u to bring their food, it’s your job. So Vishal I think his name is with that attitude u have u will never get anywhere far…

My family & I were such big fans of the food at Hibiscus! It’s a shame that the service(one waitress in particular) has completely ruined our interest in eating there. When visiting she usually has a attitude — we really do not pay any mind to it, we come for the food not for the people. However, one evening when ordering the pepper shrimp fried rice(our usual favorite) we called her over to ask her if this was the correct order and she replied with the biggest attitude«this is how WE make OUR pepper shrimp, you must have ordered incorrectly» she continued to insist and protest that this is the correct order. We merely stated that the dish was not the same as we have had it on countless occasions. We ended up just asking for the check, paying for the uneaten meal and leaving. On a prior visit, we watched a group of about twelve people walk out without paying for their meal when they made a similar complaint. This waitress and the manager both argued with the patrons and they were so disgusted with the customer service they refused to eat or pay for their dinner. The issue could have been resolved with a quick apology & maybe an offer to order something else. They do have the best black pudding, sadly, we will not be visiting — hopefully management is able to be more hospitable to other customers!

The food is good. The ingredients available here in ny are not organic like in guyana so can’t blame em. It’s way better than kaieteur food. Mom buys the black pudding all the time. Soup is only made once per day so not always fresh and can’t be customized. I never ate there. Always take out. However waiting there i can tell the girls are nice and friendly, the place is nicely built and the ambience is nice with local music. Caribbean people eating there are very loud at times though. And i rarely like being around Caribbean people drinking because there always seem to be fights. I live nearby and never saw police getting involved so i guess that’s good. Looks like a nice hangout spot. Dining is in the back so you have to walk past the bar. I would have preferred a private entrance to the restaurant but this is ny and you can’t have it all. Lol

The service was great and so was the food ok. The jerk chicken fried rice was salty. The other restaurant on 101 jerk chicken is terrific. I’ve read the reviews and was hesitant about coming to this location but I guess on a Monday night it wasn’t overly crowded. And I had a great time.

I’ve been to this restaurant a handful of times both to dine in and take out. Honestly I wouldn’t have been a repeat customer had it not been so close to where I live. First off the lay out out of this restaurant is ridiculous. To dine or take out you have to navigate through a maze of drunken men. If you’re taking out you have stand in the dining room amongst everyone that is dining, because your order is NEVER ready at the quoted time. Next is the service, the girls monitoring take out could care less about providing good service. I’ve been hung up on while trying to place an order, and the main waiter is just plain rude. All in all, the mediocre food isn’t worth the frustration that this restaurant offers. I will never return now that I’ve discovered Caribbean Delights just a few streets over.

I’ve been to Hibiscus a couple of times this year. On a visit about 2 weeks ago the meal we ordered was pretty mediocre. The jerk chicken fried rice was pretty average. Lots of small pieces of bone in the rice so be careful. We also ordered the chicken and broccoli. You would be better off ordering this from your local take out spot. The chicken wings were pretty good. Lastly the roast duck fried rice was terrible. It tasted nothing like the other Guyanese restaurants. It also had a rank taste. The service is pretty bad as well. The women working there are not friendly or service oriented. The wait for food is very long on the weekends. You also have to walk to the back of the restaurant, in the dining room to wait for your food. Bottom line is that I won’t be returning until they fix their establishment.

Let me be specific here. This is a place where i always go at daily basis to hang out and have a drink and maybe if i decide to go with my family for dinner. I am a west indian person and yes this is a west indian place. but overall hey the food is great and i love the place. the service in there is i got to say is a plus. honestly everyone knows me in there. the bar is where i mostly hang out. the place is a nice relaxing place and its not a bar that would be to loud and not to much crazy stuff going on. but hey its a nice and simple place. as for the girls that are bartending in there are great as well. I would higly recommend people to check it out. The dining area is at the back. and believe me it may be a reasonable size place but its very nice and the way its situated is nice. Everyone may have a different taste of everything. So obviously i posted some pictures that i had taken while i was there hanging out so you may see some pictures of some of the food. Somtimes on Sunday’s from what i know around in the evening time. you usually get a nice fish soup on the house and it is really good.

I’ve been here a handful of times thus far, however I do have mixed reviews. The food is good and I don’t really have much of a complaint about it. It is average and nothing that is exceptionally good that I would crave at a later date. I also thought that the layout of the restaurant should be different. I think that if you are ordering food, the pick up counter should be close to the door and not at the back of the restaurant where you have to walk through the entire dining area and stand amongst all the tables filled with those that are eating. One time I ordered food, it was said it would be ready in 40 minutes. I ended up giving it an hour and upon arrival the woman said«I know you ordered over an hour ago but it’ll be another 5 minutes». I stood there for 15 minutes in the dining area amongst all of the tables where others where eating. When the woman checked on my order she said to me «I am so sorry, but the kitchen lied to me. They just put your chicken in, it’ll be another 15 minutes», of course after I paid. To sum up the story they rushed and gave me the chicken, which I still think was not cooked thoroughly. Needless to say I have not been back since then.

Don’t know why all the bad reviews, but hey my family and I loved the food and ambiance in the restaurant part. It is a bit awkward that you walk in and the first thing you see is a huge bar and a bunch of alcoholics on a Sunday, then as you walk beyond the bar and enter thru the door, its a whole new world. We ordered the typical West Indian-Chinese dishes – house special fried rice, chow mein, combination chicken platter, oxtails, and cook up. All food was served very presentably and fairly priced. All of the delicious dishes looked and tasted fresh, from the crisp vegetables to the meat. Portions were perfect for the prices. The waitress was not the friendliest but helpful and not a bothersome pusher like other places. Typically we go to Kaieteur, but I just found my new spot when I am craving West Indian food, and its a lot closer to where I live. See you next week Hibiscus and please don’t lose your chef from the past Sunday – keep it consistent and delicious!

I’ve never actually eaten inside of this restaurant so i can’t review that experience. But i have ordered from them on numerous occasions. The chicken fried rice, where they have the fried chicken on the rice, is awesome. I especially love the hot sauce that comes with it. The delivery wasn’t super fast but it wasn’t like i was waiting around for an hour. I also had the oxtail with rice and peas, the order was small but the flavor was good. I would totally order from them again.

Update: Pepper Shimp with Chow Mein Chow Mein, bland no additional seasonings added. All flavor comes from the pepper shrimp sauce. Pepper Shrimp: Straight from a frozen bag, and NOT de-veined — nasty. So don’t expect soft, its more like rubber. As for the sauce, wow at least they could have tried. It was basically ketchup with red peppers and pepper sauce. They didn’t even give the ketchup time to cook with the pepper sauce, just added the ketchup right before they finish re-heating the shrimps. Unbelievable! Black Pudding; They finally had it so I was able to try it. Good side, they had the sauce. Overall, it was not great nor bad because it was bland — just no flavor. The one at Sybils from the last time I tired was much better. Jerk Chicken Fried Rice: Can’t go wrong with that here… GETIT! Only dish I’ve tried so far with any kind of flavor. Customer Service: Hasn’t changed. Phone calls gets priority of someone standing right in front of them. Just call ahead and order. Don’t go in to order.
