Doesn’t deserve 1 star. Take heed to the warnings when you first pull up. Dirty, rude staff, and DIRTY! Tables are by wiped down, staff had very poor customer service. The food: OMG. I hope I don’t get the BG’S. The meat was old. The sauce was cold and had no unique flavor. It’s a smoke flavor but nasty. The skin on the meat is old. Not crispy at all. I can BBQ better than this place. Do not go here. They need to be demolished. I wonder if the smoker outside is a decoy. Lol

I really love this place! The BBQ is great most all the time. The BBQ sandwiches are very good at $ 5 and very large portions. I would consider this place a hidden gem on south hill. It’s rarely busy but the employees have been very friendly and welcoming everytime I go here. I would recommend everyone trying this place before you go to one of those large franchise restaurants. Locally owned and operated and well it just tastes better ENJOY!

You don’t come here for the service or the nice decoration. It’s a very small place. The food is absolutely delicious, and the prices are low. Get the brisket with beans and macaroni salad. The potato salad is delicious too. I have no idea why they have some low ratings, we’ve never had bad food here. They aren’t open on Sundays, that’s my only complaint.

First let me start that I’m not a big BBQ fan, so a BBQ joint will never get a 5 star from me, and if I like it, generally speaking a true BBQ connoisseur will NOT like it. That being said, I did go in with my fiancé who DOES love BBQ, and he said he enjoyed it but agreed it was nothing«spectacular». What we ate — We both had the brisket sandwich and we got one as a combo then shared the macaroni salad and cornbread. We both enjoyed the brisket, tender cuts of beef, good flavor without being overly smokey and a good bbq sauce. We didn’t have any problems with the bun being stale as others have pointed out. Josh would have preferred more of a smoke flavor, and being as I’m not a fan of «smoke» flavor I thought the light hint of smoke was just right. The cornbread was good and served piping hot. Probably the only negative is they have«honey flavored syrup» and not REAL honey. Our least favorite was the macaroni salad. Albeit, it is better than the crap you buy by the carton at the grocery store, it is still nothing I would order again. I’m not sure what it was, maybe mustard? But the flavor just wasn’t there for me. The employees were a hoot and very friendly and you could tell they really enjoyed working there and that can really elevate a dining experience. Sadly, they had beer on the menu, but no beer is actually served. We spoke with the owner briefly and he explained that the demand just wasn’t there to keep beer in stock. He was also a nice guy and you could tell he genuinely cared about his business. Overall, yeah we would go back as the price was good and the food was pretty good.

This should technically be a 2.5 star rating, but alas the powers of Unilocal will not allow this. Anywho, I recently moved to the area and I always do this thing where I have to try all the BBQ spots nearby. Not sure how it started, so don’t ask. So after driving by a few times, I finally decided to hit up this place. The location is pretty nondescript and easily missed. I went in and it was just the small hole in the wall diner feel I was expecting, so I didn’t have any qualms about this. On to the food: the beef was a little dry but tasted decent. Nothing to write home about. Don’t understand why they put it atop a cheap burger bun, though. it totally kills the overall experience. I would highly suggest some other bread, rye, sourdough, whatever… put some effort. Service was good and fast, probably because I was the only customer there. In general, there’s nothing terribly bad, but lots of things could be easily improved.

Stale bread for the sandwiches, poor quality of meat, sauce had no unique character, tastes like bottled cheap sauce you buy at the store. Facilities are run down but clean, bathrooms were clean as well. They have a good atmosphere, family movie running, arcade machine that’s free, the food is our main complaint.

Poor things. My husband and I are new to the area so each establishment is pretty new to us. I passed by here because I saw the sign for BBQ. No smells just the sign. I did a u-turn, pulled into the lot and walked in. The dining room was empty and well, it looked pretty blah. The lady behind the register looked pretty cool and she was great with the customer service. The menu consists of ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken and smoked ham. No links, rib tips, or anything too fussy. The sides were the usuals(no fries though). Prices are pretty decent. My combo of brisket, pulled pork and chicken was about $ 13.99 which included baked beans and a side(I choose cornbread which were actually corn muffins). Another came in and said he had never noticed this place before. The lovely lady said yeah sometimes we get people in here saying that they have passed the area for over 20 years and didn’t know that we were here. Hmmm, should have kept that little nugget to yourself. Even though the hubby went to get teriyaki, I still ordered him a chicken sandwich and some chocolate cake. As I was looking outside waiting for my order, I see the grill outside with smoking oozing out. Um, ok. Is this a ploy. Nothing could be cooking because I don’t smell anything and nobody is out there manning the grill so… I am not going to be happy. I finally get home and open my food and well, everything is saturated with sauce. Sauce? I don’t recall getting an option of sauce or not. Nor do I recall being asked how mild or spicy. Ok. Whatever. Since everything was mixed in together, you couldn’t tell the pork from the brisket but I did know what the ham was because of the square cuts. No smokiness at all. The sauce was sweet and not very good. I do not like mild sauces so I wasn’t happy. The baked beans were not good and the corn bread was something from the grocery store in the bakery section. Oh and the poboy part of it. I don’t know since there were no poboys listed on the menu. I hope there is another BBQ place somewhere close but if not I have Famous Daves to help me through.

Good food. The facilities are facilities. Not the prettiest but not ugliest either. The food is good. The location is a location. But the food is good. Try it out. Tell us what you think.

I go to BBQ places for pork ribs and they are great here. I never write reviews but after seeing the negative reviews on this place I had to say something. I’ve been going here for 5 years or so and in the past I’ll agree the woman who works there has not been the friendliest… but I think she’s seen some of the reviews and is very cordial and friendly. It is my opinion that Unilocal reviewers are overly critical and especially so with regard to BBQ. The pork ribs are smoked and then it seems to be braised or some other method with moisture to make them tender. I think while some traditionalist would baulk at this… I think it’s a great method. Their sauce is also one of the best, if not the best in the south sound. Also, at $ 13 for a half-rack of ribs that probable weigh 2 – 3 lbs, about the best deal around. This restaurant has been around for a long time and it’s my guess that the couple who works there has taken it over from their family and they work very hard and in corporate society we live in now I say support the small business and give this place a try. Honestly, I eat at too many BBQ places and their pork ribs are the best I’ve found in the area.

Not much to say about this place. When my family and I walked through the door we must’ve inconvenienced the«workers» as they actually had to stop talking to each other and talk to a paying customer. Ordered the brisket and ribs, and found them to be acceptable, but not as good as Dickies or Famous Daves.

I took my family to this place one time. The comparison by some on here to Famous Daves I think is way off base, Daves eats this place alive and at least comparing to what we spent here they are about the same price. The ribs were meaty but all of the different meats had what tasted like the same sauce. The look of the place is of a dive, but some of the best places I have ate at fit that description. The food was not horrible it just didn’t have any variation or offering of variation. If you didn’t like the house sauce you were pretty much stuck. The place wasn’t clean. The service wasn’t great, The bathroom is about the size of a closet which my disabled mother-in-law got stuck in and my wife had to assist her out. Where I’m from, Maryland this place wouldn’t meet the health regulations in most if not all counties. As for knowing or not knowing southern BBQ, I’m from Maryland and over my 43 years I have made frequent trips to VA, NC, SC, GA, TN, AL, KT, and other states in the south. I have had BBQ in SC, NC and various places in TN that are supposed to be some of the best places in the US. anything from the dry rubs in Nashville and SC to some of the best honey sauces I could dream about. This places isn’t the worst but it is kind of one dimensional. They could improve the offerings of sides and maybe more types of sauce. Beef, chicken and pork shouldn’t taste the same which many mouthfuls do at this place because the sauce often covers the flavor of the meat and they share the same sauce.

I have to admit off the bat, I’ve only been in one time, and tried one item; they may have something that is unique and excellent but I can only speak from my own experience here. My wife and I ordered pork sandwiches, with beans, cole slaw, and potato salad. Needless to say the sides were nothing special; the potato salad seemed as though it came from a large plastic bucket, the cole slaw was bland, the beans were most likely from a can, and the sandwich itself was intrinsically good, but if you own a BBQ place you want your meat to be unique, and to stand out. For the price, the food was meh, to pit it bluntly. Not to mention the strange ambiance with the tube tv playing DVDs of obscure titles, the fairly dirty floor, ceiling and tables, and the lack of patrons. Now, the staff was friendly, and they seemed to mean well, and I’m sure the owners also mean well; it is not an easy thing to have a standout BBQ joint, but just a bit more effort into the flavor of the meat, and replacing those ordinary sides with unique, in-house made potato salad, beans, etc. would make this two star dive, into a 3 star dive. Add a makeover for the interior and lose the strange vibe and 4 stars is not out of reach. I really hope to see some improvement here, I’ll be back in a while and see if things are different, and give Po Boy another shot. Just one more thing… I wish there were a po’ boy on the menu! I came in wanting one, and low and behold, no po’ boys!

Where do I start? The restaurant was dirty! Costumer service sucked! The two people that were working was watching movies! And the food was slopped on our plates. The ribs would have been good if they were not the ribs from day before. This place was not worth it at all!

The beef brisket sandwich was cold, dry, and tough. The guy apologized and said he knew it. The day’s meat didn’t turn out well. He offered me a lame piece of cake to make up for it. No thanks.

I’ve had BBQ in a lot of places, especially in the south. I was happy because when you pull up to this place, you can’t miss the smoker as you walk in. To my disappointment, the service was rude and horrible and it seemed like I was served leftovers from another day. I actually think my food was warmed up In a microwave! The meats were heavily sauced so I could not enjoy anything on my plate. Sorry, but with a name like Po’ boys, you have to be on point! Definitely won’t bring my family here again. The man helping us needs a hug as well.

This place has good smoked meat. Most of the people on here wouldn’t know Southern BBQ if it slapped em in the face. Of course they reheat the meat. Did you think they smoke it to order? It takes an average of 9 – 12 hours to smoke a pork butt. This certainly isnt the best BBQ in the world, but it slaps Famous Daves up and down the road, and it’s more affordable. With that being said, I think they could do a bit better with their rubs and trimming of the meat.

The BBQ here is way better than the franchise joints and the inconsistent independent places around the area. The price makes it a 5 star joint. Taking the meat out of some kind of convection smoker rather than off a conventional smoker or grill kind of took away from the charm of having some good«Q». My ribs were sitting in some type of braising liquid… I didn’t like that. I could only think that if this place had a bigger fan base the meat wouldn’t need to sit in a braising liquid. Ignoring anything that seems negative. This place has good food and reminded me of good BBQ from Texas. The building smelled like a smokehouse. I loved it! Getting to eat BBQ in this area is a rare event, like eating turkey and dressing only on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving. The BBQ culture here is weak. If and when you find a BBQ place it is either too expensive and not good, which makes spending that kind of cash a hard thing to do. So, it is a relief to know that other than having to do your own bbqing you can come here.
