So bummed this placed closed! I love everything I ever bought from Julie’s Bakery. I know the location wasn’t the greatest, but I’m not even gluten-free and I loved their cupcakes the best! Bummer. ..

Well I guess either she’s moved or she went out of business, bakery is closed, she had told me she wasn’t doing very good there, sad to see her not there.

I’m SOOOOO sad that Julie’s has closed. Sadly, I’m just now getting to their review even though we had found them about a year ago and they’ve been closed for a while now. What I loved about Julie’s is that not only were they an AWESOMEGF bakery, but they were just an AWESOME bakery, with a few exceptions. Most of the things we had FARRRRRR surpassed ANY bakery we’ve been to. You couldn’t tell that they were GF and we will definitely miss them. POSTIVES: SCONES — Their scones were TODIEFOR. The boyfriend and I would try to get them hot out of the oven(and Julie’s would normally tell me when they were coming out on Facebook) and we’d take them home with the jam separate. They were so moist and the taste was delicious. I know people around here RAVE about the scones available at the State Fair, but I’ve had those and they were not even CLOSE to Julie’s. RASPBERRYBARS — Definitely one of my second favorites, probably because it included broken up scone pieces with the raspberry jam. There was some other nuts and things in it, but they were AMAZING. LEMONBAR — I’m not a huge fan of Lemon Bars honestly. They tend to be too«lemon-y» and it’s always that fake lemon flavor. Julie’s were PERFECT. They were a nice taste, texture, and without the weird taste of fake lemon. CUPCAKES — The cupcakes were simply AWESOME. We never got the vegan ones but the GF ones would have given any bakery a run for their money. COOKIES — The cookies! OHHHHHHHHH the cookies! :) The sunflower butter ones were the best. Best cookies I’ve ever had. NEURAL: BREAD — We had the sandwich bread once and it wasn’t bad, but I must prefer a bit of gluten in my bread. :) CAKE — The cake, like the bread, wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the best cake I’ve ever had. NEGATIVES: DONUT — I really wish I would have liked this. We got a vegan donut so I know there was no gelatin in it, but it had a REALLY weird consistency and I was not a huge fan. Not the most awful thing ever but it just didn’t work for me. ÉCLAIR — We had the éclairs twice and both times, I hate to say, they were AWFUL. I’m not sure if we just got a bad batch both times, but it had an after-taste what nail polish remover tastes like. I was a bit sad because I REALLY wanted to like it and was so excited to try it after all their other goodies, but it was just plain gross. Thankfully all the pros outweighed the cons for us… Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter because the bakery is still closed. We’re sad to see them go but hope that Julie continues baking and has something up her sleeve for later.

Julie’s was the first gluten free bakery I checked out when I arrived to the Seattle area in October(well, Tacoma if we’re being picky). What blew me away, was that they had donuts. Delicious donuts and I met the one and only Julie(the counter guy was the ultimate hype man). The eclairs were wonderful and the cinnamon rolls were little beacons of heaven. I’ve been lacking on my reviews, so, suffice to say, I was shocked to learn it had closed. I will always remember your donuts, Julie, please continue making them in some fashion.

I would like to take a minute and coment on ALOT of these people who complain about the price of a gluten free cupcake!!! Have you ever owned a bakery? Do you know how much the overhead is? $ 4.00 is not too exspensive when you figure in ALL the fresh ingerdients, your labor cost because it takes time to bake from scratch! Not to mention the mall cupcake places are charing $ 3.00 to $ 3.50 a cupcake. Any regular person that is TRUE gluten free understands now exspesive it is to have to eat that life style and when you can find a bakery that knows how to bake it, well BOOM you got something awesome,. So before you start slamming a person on the prices of the menu, take a look at the entire picture.

I special ordered some cupcakes for my wedding reception that were shaped like high-heeled shoes with turquoise frosting. I showed them a picture of what I wanted. Well, they arrived 11⁄2 hours late and had to set them up when they arrived. They were not turquoise but green. They were so difficult for my guests to eat because the heels were«glued» by icing that they fell apart when my guests tried to pick them up eat. At the end of the reception, 2 dozen out of 3 were not eaten. Sorry Julie’s Bakery you missed the mark on this one.

The donuts are my favorite, but everything is delicious! My only complaint is that they are not located in my neighborhood!

Soooo yummy! We went a few minutes before closing and the man behind the counter was still pleased and eager to help us. You could tell they take pride in being gluten free. Great customer service and GREAT cupcakes. He even threw in a few extras being our first time in the bakery. We will be back :)

.crap.olli! Julie’s cupcakes are freaking amazing! I first tried the funfetti, then the chocolate. It was like eating ice cream in baked form. If I hadn’t known these were gluten free, I wouldn’t have been able to tell. My only complaint is the price. It was about $ 15 for four cupcakes. Expensive, but I’m sure that reflects the cost of baking gluten-free goodies.

If you are GF you will love this place! If you are just looking into gluten free food, you will still love this place! I can honestly say that everything I got was as good as(or better than!) their gluten counterparts. We bought 3 different cupcakes and 2 donuts — all fantastic. I had been wanting a gluten free donut for a long, long time! My food wish was granted! My only suggestion is to make display tags for the different flavors. There weren’t any, so we had to ask staff what everything was. They were very friendly and helpful, but I felt bad bugging them to name all the cupcakes. Price: –If you have visited a speciality cupcake store or are on a gluten free diet, you will realize this place is right on par for cost. –If you’re not familiar with gluten free shopping or your idea of cupcakes is the 24 pack from Safeway for ten bucks, you’re probably going to have some sticker shock. As someone who has been trying to avoid gluten for the last 10 years, I can say that this place is both excellent in quality and fair in price. I hope to return again and will recommend it to all my GF friends.

Such a delight to discover Julie’s Gluten Free cupcakes! So lovely to have a few gluten, dairy, soy and dye free treats to choose from! I *loved* the salted caramel cupcakes! And the maple bars were wonderful too! My son and husband adored the chocolate baked doughnuts. They would never let us come back to the Seattle area without making a stop in here… thanks, Unilocal

«Worthy of Every Penny!» We do recommend stopping by to see what’s new — try something different during each visit! Maybe even bring something home for later! It’s a little pricey for cupcakes, but if you are in the mood to spend for worthy cupcakes I’d direct you here!

Just picked up my husband’s birthday/anniversary cake. This could have turned out to be a terrible experience, but Lindsay the general manager took charge and went above and beyond to make this cake happen for me. I have used Julie’s Bakery repeatedly for holidays and special occasions. Lately, I have had less than stellar service when I have been in. I called to speak with Julie on Thursday and was lucky enough to speak with Lindsay instead. I voiced my concerns with the service and issues and she was genuinely concerned with the experiences I have had of late. Not only did she go above and beyond by getting the cake done, she threw in some extra goodies, including a cupcake for my two year old with an egg allergy. After our conversation there was no need to speak with the owner. Lindsay made this day all the more special by helping me realize the vision I had for my husband’s cake. I wanted to get him a cake that would match his 1940 Ford Deluxe. He was blown away at the quality and the flavor. We went with a Julie-esq flavor combo(chocolate and Bavarian cream). Even the fondant was delicious. My husband is active duty Army, and after his three combat tours and his year long tour to Korea next year we will have spent 52 months of our 9 year marriage apart. We rarely are able to spend our anniversaries and birthdays together, and that was why it was so important to make this day special. This cake definitely did that, and I couldn’t be more grateful! Thank you again Lindsay for your exceptional customer service. It is a special employee that would care so much about a business that isn’t even their own.

My husband and I decided that Julie’s would be our wedding cake baker due to the rave Unilocal*reviews. We don’t follow a G free diet, but the reviews, amazing photos, and the fact that they use local, organic, high quality ingredients sold us. The warm, prompt, courteous service with a smile that we received upon entrance sealed the deal! Julie’s has all kinds of exotic flavor combinations, but my husband decided to let the kids choose the flavors. We ordered a simple 2 layer vanilla and chocolate cake for our small wedding. The gal who helped us told us all about how many people we could serve depending on the way that we cut the cake, and we looked at some diagrams before deciding on the sizes of the tiers. The design was exactly what we wanted. Although simple, our cake was delicious! The quality of the ingredients really shined! Thank you to Julie’s for helping make our small 7−11−13 wedding a sweet success!

Was in town for the day and tried out a couple of Julie’s cupcakes. One was a vegan and the other contained dairy. Both were absolutely fantastic! I am very tempted to go with 5 stars but with a sample size of only two items I think I need to stick with 4 stars. I’ll be back again and will bump it up if I need to. Do give Julie’s a try — I bet you’ll like it!

We got our winter wedding cake from Julie’s gluten free bakery. We went to several cake tastings and to our surprise thought this gluten free bakery was the tastiest! The cake was beautiful. We offered many different flavors at our wedding and had so many people asking where our delicious cake was from. I will be visiting Julie’s gluten free bakery again!

I’ve been to Julie’s twice from Kirkland, which is a 90-mile round trip. Going to a place that won the best gluten-free two years in a row was worth the drive. My first trip wasn’t successful and at least I got a chance to see where they were located and appreciate the value of calling ahead to place an order. My second trip was much different. A friend of mine and I drove down there together and when we walked in Julie was there and recognized me from Facebook. She immediately introduced herself and was friendly from the start. She had saved some dairy-free, egg-free, and soy-free items for me, which was beautiful and so very appreciated. We tried six dairy-free, egg-free and soy-free cupcakes(my friend tried one regular one with dairy and raved about it!), three dairy-free, egg-free and soy-free donuts, and a dairy-free, egg-free, and soy-free raspberry bar(in various sittings). These cupcakes are where it’s at! I was pleased with the cupcakes that they were so moist even after a night in the refrigerator. I definitely enjoyed the cake part of the cupcake. The frosting was much too sweet for my taste and that was one thing I couldn’t get used to as I use alternatives to sugar such as agave and/or stevia. I’m normally a frosting lover and while it tasted great it was just too much for me. I loved the amount of frosting, which was a perfect ratio for the cupcake. It would be awesome if they could make low-sugar or alternatives for special order. Aside from the frosting these were some of the best gluten-free cupcakes I’ve ever tasted. The only ones that I’ve liked better were at 100% dedicated gluten-free bakeries in Gresham, OR and Portland, OR. So for a much shorter drive from Seattle I can get something that tastes really great! I think that Julie’s Gluten-Free Bakery should try to get on Cupcake Wars and WIN!!! I highly recommend the dairy-free, egg-free, and soy-free donuts: coconut, chocolate on chocolate, and the one with the sprinkles… Sooooo gooooood! I would have loved a less sweet icing on it… otherwise they were perfect! The raspberry bar. This was my favorite as it didn’t have a strong sugary flavor but also had nuts I could eat! The customer service here was stellar! Going here was like visiting Bob’s Red Mill where sometimes you’ll see Bob having breakfast. Here Julie was there as well as her husband. All the staff I’ve encountered over two visits were friendly, helpful, kind, etc. I did have an experience here that I couldn’t pin-point until later when I was back home. I normally look at ingredients for *everything* before I put it in my mouth because that is my reality of having multiple food allergies. I kept wanting to look at a list of ingredients like at my local gluten-free bakery in Redmond, the Flying Apron, which has all the ingredients listed out in the open as well as the price for each item. I missed having that experience. However, Julie was right there and when I asked what was in the raspberry bar she just told me, so it was simple. Still, when I was home I wondered if there might be any citrus in there as I forgot to ask her about that. A word on the prices. If you are gluten-free by requirement, like me, then you already understand about the prices. When I was first diagnosed I tried baking from scratch and bought all the ingredients, which were not cheap. I can’t remember exactly how much I spent but I think it was close to $ 50 if not more to simply make some gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free muffins. The prices here are MORE than reasonable for each and every item on the menu. $ 3.90 for a cupcake that tastes as good as these is a steal! I’ve paid closer to $ 5.00 at other places for slightly larger gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, citrus-free, egg-free…and they haven’t tasted as good. Everything is from scratch here and that is beautifully evident. The other thing about Julie’s is that NOTHING tasted like rice, garbanzo or fava bean flour, which has been a reality at other gluten-free bakeries. All in all, I highly recommend Julie’s Gluten-Free Bakery. Their delicious treats are so accessible for all of us with multiple food allergies, they are active each day on Facebook showing us all what they have to offer and they always share what items are dairy-free, egg-free and soy-free, which are now regular daily items. Thank you for blessing me with the gift of such beautiful gluten-free treats. We will be back!

My friend is gluten free and I volunteered to bring dessert when she had us over for dinner. I looked online for recipes but as time got closer — I didn’t have the time nor energy to make anything. I found this bakery via Unilocal and other social media tools. It’s out of the way(going to South Hill is not my idea of fun) and other Unilocalers are right — it is tucked waaaaay in the back but their signs point to it pretty clearly. The front part of the bakery is really cute and has a bistro like feel. I walked in and was a little disappointed. Before I go any further, the location is clean and the staff were very friendly. There were tables and chairs and the lighting was nice. So… why was I disappointed? It’s called a bakery but all I really saw were cupcakes, two cakes(that were labeled for someone to pick up), a couple of other cupcakes in the fridge, beverages, and some savory rolls. When I hear bakery — I think pastries, cakes, donuts, bread products, and cupcakes. This should be called Julie’s Gluten-Free Cupcakes and other yummy things… or something like that. I didn’t see prices clearly marked but knew that I had to buy 6 cupcakes for our dinner gathering. They had a hodge podge of flavors available and they looked very pretty. I was slightly surprised when my total was $ 20.00 — for 6 cupcakes? I knew they would cost more since they were made from scratch but $ 20? A little pricey in my book. The flavors I purchased were 2 vanilla, 2 chocolate, 1 mocha, and 1 pink champagne. When we ate them that evening — everyone really enjoyed the cupcakes. I would not have known that they were gluten free. The frosting tasted like they used a lot of butter — this isn’t bad — just my opinion — to clarify — it was very good. My friend LOVED her cupcake and her husband RAVED about them. My husband is never really excited about food so he had no response but he did eat the entire cupcake. My mocha cupcake was pretty good and I would go back for another one. Why the 3 stars when the cupcakes were pretty good? 1) prices need to be clearly marked 2) prices were much higher than I anticipated 3) it’s not a bakery if the only thing you really sell are cupcakes Would I go back? Sure but not anytime soon.

I’m not sensitive to gluten, but I was curious to try and was excited to see a new cupcake business open up in Puyallup. The shop itself is tucked allllll the way in the corner of the shopping center in case you were ordering. I ordered 2 cupcakes to go. Shop was very clean and organized. Staff was incredibly nice! — Lemon cupcake with buttercream(i think) sprinkled with a tiny bit of lavender. This was the only unique flavor they offered and I was pretty disappointed. The lemon cupcake itself was a little dry considering it was fresh. The frosting was really smooth and delicious, but I think they pretty much use the same frosting for all their cupcakes. I was expecting the lavender to flavor the frosting and not just sprinkled on top. I noticed that when I left the cupcake out in the open, it got pretty dry and really crumbly. — Strawberry cupcake was okay, but it was really lacking flavor. They could probably add more strawberry into the cupcake mix OR fill the middle with strawberries. Their cupcakes are a little pricey at $ 3.90 each, but obviously they’re not using your run of the mill all-purpose flour. They also sell cookies if you’re not a cupcake person or just want an extra treat. They also sell day old cupcakes at $ 2.50 each, but I wanted to try their fresh cupcakes so I can make a honest review. I feel like the cupcake to frosting ratio is really off considering the cupcake should be the star of the show, but instead the frosting is taking over. Overall, it was okay. At $ 3.90 for kinda dry, semi-flavorless cupcakes topped with waaaay too much frosting… *shrug* I would return to try their other cupcakes and the other treats they offer though. It’s still considered a new shop and there’s always room for improvements.
