I like all their food and ice cream. Very busy place. A tradition in the area. Clamcakes and Chowder awesome, along with whole belly clams.

Very crowded — sometimes tough to find parking — but the food and service are great! It’s a perfect place for summer treats and eating outside!

Classic, old-school New England– this place truly is as good as it gets. First off, any restaurant(be it a stand or not) that can survive in a solely residential setting is always promising. This place has been around forever, and their advertising is nil. I only happened upon it because I moved, and my boyfriend passed by while getting lost on the way to visiting me. This place describes itself as a «stand,» and it is. You order at the window and wait at the bevvy of picnic tables until your number is called. The menu is extensive, featuring everything from hot dogs and hamburgers, to fried seafood dinners, salads, sandwiches, fried pickle chips(yum!) and an array of delicious ice cream flavors. Service is wonderfully friendly and informative. Sure, there are some high school kids waiting on you, but they(in my experience) know their stuff, and actually seem happy to be there. Seating is ample, and I’ve brought my dog on a few occasions, with no issue. Parking is on site, as well as on street. During peak hours it does get busy, but they are well-staffed and the line moves quickly. I highly recommend visiting Deary Brothers, especially on a mild summer night. Staff and other patrons are friendly, and the food is fresh and delicious.

First and foremost the service was outstanding and it was an extremely neat establishment. We walked up to the counter and as we were looking at menu we literally had 3 service people ask to take our order. We end up with all 3 getting each of are ice cream & yogurt orders. Ice cream and yogurt was good… Nothing outstanding but good. The service, neatness and shaded picnic tables boost it up to 4 stars. Nothing fancy… But I just really liked it. Food orders looked good, especially the clams. I’ll be back

A fun place for an inexpensive meal. A counter serve restaurant with plenty of shaded picnic tables. The prices are almost as low as McDonald’s and your supporting a local small business. All the grilled food looks good and I have had and enjoyed the hot dogs twice. I had a small ice cream today which cost about $ 2.60 which was more than reasonable. I noticed as one reviewer stated some ice crystal on the product. I wondered if the ice crystals result because opened ice cream containers are stored in the freezer(at least the 5 containers I saw). Keeping lids on the containers may prevent the ice and keep the product fresher. My only other qualm is all the condiments are left on a table outdoors. While the mustard and relish, ketchup may be fine I wonder how the chopped onion keeps in a plastic container on a warm day. That concern prevented me from putting onions on the hot dogs.

[Okay, my old review got filtered so let’s try updating it and see if that sticks…] This is not high cuisine: burgers, fried seafood, fries and ice cream. You pick it up at the window and take it out to the picnic tables and enjoy the nice spring or summer day. It’s not that very expensive to scratch the itch to get a burger or an ice cream cone. Yeah, once in a while you get a slow teenager helping you but there are always five or six others that pick up the slack. At the height of summer, this place is moving on all cylinders. Are there better places to get ice cream? Sure. I’m not going to name any names but they’re all ten-thirty minutes away. Deary’s is right here in town and definitely worth a stop and a quick bite.

First and last time at this establishment; ordered black raspberry frozen yogurt; got some tasteless equivalent with chocolate chips in it; not a pleasant surprise; yuk! The other scoop was freezer burned; the waffle cone was stale; poor service was added to the high cost of meager scoops; next time I’ll bring my microscope and I’ll be looking elsewhere.

Quintessential New England! Every time I visit this part of the world I stop at Mike’s for ice cream. Tonight I had fried clams, slaw and a coke. Topped it off with a maple walnut cone! It brought me back to 1968!.. I loved it and you will too. You won’t get cloth napkins or fancy spices, just great ice cream stand food, ice cream, and a family of great service. If you are there when they are busy, it is well worth the wait and part of the small town ice cream stand experience. Don’t pass through Putnam without stopping at Mike’s. I hope Mike keeps the Deary legacy going forever!

Dearys stand doesnt try to be something its not. It is what it is. That said, they are excellent at being what they are. The ice cream is great but occasionally the high school kid might make you a sub par sundae. This is the only reason I’m only giving four stars. The ice cream itself is great and so are the toppings but the assembly is sometimes lacking. The burgers are good, really good. they are not huge pub burgers. They are awesome burger stand burgers, cooked on a flattop. They are juicy, the bun is buttery and well grilled and the toppings are fresh. They are also CHEAP. Like McDonalds cheap. I think its 3.95 for a good size double with cheese. The hot dogs are fantastic, again served on a buttery grilled New England style roll. The fish and chips is very good as well. Fresh breaded fish(not battered) served with hot crispy fries and some cool tangy slaw. The roll that accompanies it is the only weakness. They serve chicken tenders and fingers. The tenders are frozen and the fingers are fresh and hand breaded! You wont find that in too many places, especially in this area. Go spend like four dollars and enjoy a great meal instead of another dried out BigMac!

Another Quiet Corner institution getting by on nostalgia. Nothing is particularly bad, nothing is particularly good. I don’t understand Putnam’s fascination with frozen and canned food cooked by high school students.

i ordered ice cream here once. it was freezer burned and reminded me of low cost store brand ice cream. it sounds as if their food is better. in my opinion We-Lik-It in Abington has the best home made ice cream in this area. we-lik-it also does made to order waffle cones/bowls. sorry about the thread hi-jack but their ice cream is way more delicious, and they always have new flavors.

Deary Brothers is a classic for anyone who grew up in this area. You won’t find good ice cream this cheap anywhere else, and they have fairly decent fried foods and sandwiches. I really enjoy their clam cakes and strawberry cheesecake ice cream. I only wish they’d stay open a little longer, but it is something to look forward to in the warmer months. (Oh, and to correct the Unilocaler below me, they now accept debit/credit cards. Yay!)

I grew up across the street from here, and always a great place to get ice cream and hot food during the summer. They are open from May to Labor day and it is outdoor seating on picnic tables. good to order for there or togo and you can call ahead also, my favorite ice cream is coffee but there cotton candy and heavenly hash are good, i like frappes and they have good clam strips, cash only
