Unbelievable find. My parents, who were visiting for the holidays, and I were eating lunch in Middleburg when a fellow diner overheard us talking about our xmas day lamb dinner. We hadn’t found a spot for the meat but we’re going to try a whole foods erc in DC. She said we had to call Athenry. We did; Mary Theresa answered and couldn’t have been sweeter. Asked what we wanted, said to come on over. We arrived about an hour later(it’s just 15 mins outside Middleburg), and both her and her mother showed us all the cuts, made recipe recommendations, gave us samples of the sherry they like, even brought down some meatballs they were upstairs cooking! Wonderful quality, kind kind people, lots of love goes into their business. Thank you guys for a great experience and an amazing Christmas dinner. Will be ordering your meat for delivery to DC for sure. Be back to pick my turkey next Fall!

I love Fields of Athenry! I live in DC but can order meat online and pick it up nearby my office. This is so convenient because Purcellville is too far to visit every week. When I do get a chance though the farm is a fantastic place to visit. When the weather is nice, they often have live music, a home-cooked meal, and beer. This farm is one of my favorite things about summer! The owner and her family are also so kind and welcoming, I highly recommend visiting!

I am eating left-over Fields of Athenry brisket as I type this. You can’t get meat like this @ Megalomart. About a month ago they were out of brisket and Elaine sold me on a giant lamb roast … Wow. Just wow. I didn’t know I liked mesquite-smoked lamb. So much great meat and one life to live. We love this place and so should you!

During a visit to nearby vineyards, it was recommended to stop by Athenry for some fresh meat. The staff was SUPER friendly, allowed us to pet the horses and hold the lamb… we ordered fresh burgers and had a couple of bottles of wine. Great experience, highly recommended!

I like that it’s a local place & that they have raw milk, but I don’t like that their meat is GMO(genetically-modified) fed! I wish they would do away with the GMO feed & feed their animals organically! Seems like a big deception, considering their reputation(they hosted Sally Fallon(popular author of Nourishing Traditions) as a speaker, etc.) They also have their chickens managed/fed at multiple surrounding farms and not all right there on their own farm — doesn’t seem right to outsource like that either, on top of the GMO issue — if you’re trying to pass yourself off as a «pure & natural» health-foodsy type of place like they really try hard to do — they’re just not of that caliber they’re claiming to be… I want to give them a second star based on the fact that I think they’re trying to do some things right(like holding health seminars, & offering raw milk) — but frankly they have a huge image deception to their customers & the surrounding public which leaves me feeling deceived and just miffs me too much :-(

This place is fantastic. You have to almost be looking for it in order to find it, but once you do you will be treated to some of the freshest meat, cheese and other goodies around. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her farm. And they have some of the coolest dogs I know. They will bark at you if you stop petting them! Awesome! Bottom line, support our local farms and go here. The drive out there is good for the soul too!
