Great family atmosphere with friendly weight staff. Food was excellent and dessert was even better. I will be back and recommend this to my friends. Keep up the good food.

I hadn’t been in a long time — plenty of visits as a kid and teen, and then wrote them off for having just«ok» food and great desserts. Until I came back with a gift card someone had given me. Oh man. We came for lunch, and the sandwiches were so good. I had a lobster BLT, which is just perfect. My hubby had a Reuben, which he loves. TONS of meat, wow. I chose carrots and slaw for my sides and both were not very flavorful. The waitress was very nice, the kind of nice where you sort of want her to take it down a notch. She was so loud, despite seeing that I had a sleeping baby. Either way, I really awakened to the thought of Gregs again and can’t wait to go back for more lobstuh! :-)

Went there Friday night at 9;30 for the fish & chips guess what –they ran out !!! Same thing happened a couple of weeks ago(during lent) at the East Providence location. One would think that a chain that has been in business for a long time would have figured out how much fish to order for a friday night(they also promote it on Wednesdays). My guess is that they are ordering fish in a manner that eliminates any extra left over at the end of the night-great for their bottom line not so good for customers. I’m sure they figure that since your already seated you’ll just order something else, they still make a sale. Well they didn’t count on me !! We all left and went to Chelo’s –They had fish and chips and the portion size was bigger than Greggs. It was delicious, as good maybe even a little better. PS If you read some of my other reviews you will realize that I am a bit of a self styled consumer advocate. I have decided that in recent years restaurants seem to have forgotten that customers are not all as dumb as they think they are,(some at least). I want decent food, adequate portion size, and a reasonable price I realize that i might now be the exception since most customers have succumbed to the brainwashing: Entrees that are now kid size portions being touted as healthier, $ 25.00 for a «plate» of 4 Ravioli. cause it’s all natural or was cooked by a chef from Tuscany(actually a nice Mexican dude who jumped the fence) or how about whenyou order a meal that comes with fries and you can count the fries — very profitable for the restaurant and a rip off to the customer. Join me in not rewarding this behavior complain and/or eat elsewhere.

My husband and I go here maybe 2 times a month. It took him a while to warm up to the place(maybe because as a teenager he used to work at another Gregg’s) but it is what it is. Nothing fancy, good amount of food, not expensive and come on… What’s better than their grapenut pudding? Nothing!!! We always sit at the bar and the bartenders are always friendly and outgoing. Never leave hungry or disappointed.

The food is a solid 3 stars, in my opinion, but I wasn’t expecting 5 stars. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese special and, it was only ok. The lobster tasted a little fishy to me. My boyfriend liked his burger, though. We live really close so I’m sure we will be back, and I am hoping to find a reason to upgrade my review.

Thought I’d give Gregg’s another shot after a long hiatus given its reputation as a neighborhood favorite. Cannot report any improvement. On the contrary. We asked for a dish of the famous pickles. They had an odd metallic taste. Asked about the LUNCH special. It was New England Boiled Dinner. I told the waitress, I’ll have it. Was it ever boiled, probably in a de-flavorizer no less! My colleague had an equally flavorless pastrami sandwich. We got the check. Tip generously despite slow service but wonder that the check seems a little steep. I glance at the receipt and realize the waitress has charged for the dinner rather than the LUNCH special. I ask the waitress about it and she tells me I didn’t specify lunch special and they are trained to charge the dinner price unless the customer specifically tells them otherwise. I’ve heard of upselling but this takes the cake. As it was a business situation and needed to get going, I didn’t pursue it. By the way the cake isn’t that special either.

The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is that the service was wonderful. Other than that… Not impressive. My onion soup didn’t have any cheese or croutons/bread in it, the bacon in my sandwich was the pre-cooked microwaved kind, and my bf’s shot of Jack Daniel’s was ridiculously small in a deceiving glass. Most likely won’t return.

Cake, cake, cake! That’s why we go to Gregg’s. Not the fanciest cakes, but good solid cake in excessively large portions. I’ve never had a bad meal at Gregg’s. It sort of seems to cater to the senior crowd. In fact, I learned about Gregg’s from my grandmother. My grandmother is pretty hip for a grandmother, but she still loves herself a Monday night special with an all inclusive wine and meal combo. But we go on our own now whenever we’re in the area. It’s kind of a blend of pub and diner food. The service is friendly and fast, and they’re quick to refill your(non-alcoholic) drinks without you having to ask. But let’s face it. We’re all really just there for cake. My husband and stepson love the death by chocolate cake. I have even been known to drive from Middletown, CT to RI, for the sole purpose of bringing home death by chocolate cake for them. I’m not a chocolate person, but there is still plenty to choose from at Gregg’s. They have pretty much everything, from cupcakes to pies to cakes to pastries. The only thing they don’t have is key lime pie. I’m not going to lie, it makes me a little sad. But I’m always happy with a big slab-o-cake, whether vanilla, lemon or the special pink cake I got last time that supported breast cancer awareness. Who doesn’t love a giant slice of pink 3 layer cake with pink frosting and little pink sparkly stuff on top? Seriously. So if you’re in the area, go to Gregg’s. And whatever you do, leave room for cake!

Had the chicken salad sandwich with fries. The sandwich seemed a lot small then I remember. The fries were cold and I asked for another order which they did give me.

Here mid afternoon for a late lunch. As always, greeted by the beautiful desserts! Service was good, our server Ashley, delightful & very attentive. Had the Tuscan salad which was great. Instead of dessert, I couldn’t resist a second dinner roll with my favorite Gregg’s ranch dressing!

I never knew they had breakfast at Gregg’s and now I do. I went on Sunday at around 10am, it was pretty quiet for a Sunday morning breakfast but maybe I’m not the only one that didn’t know about it. There were 6 of us and I was able to call ahead and make a reservation. I had the breakfast sandwich with bacon and homefries, also at our table were the veggie skillet, poached eggs, the breakfast combo and eggs Benedict. The food was great. Best of all the coffee was good, hot and kept on coming, thanks to Renee.

Full Disclosure: I have never eaten a full meal here… BUT the desserts are to die for. They are moist delicious and every single one is consistent. I loved the strawberry shortcake. However they only have it in the spring/summer because they use fresh strawberries. So you better get to Greggs and getchu some quick! If they are out… just try something else. It is all delish.

This review is primarily written on behalf of the cakes. I have never sat in this establishment, but am never disappointed by their amazing cake selection. From the simple white cake, to the chocolate covered yellow cake, to the coconut cranberry to the not-so-healthy-carrot cake and the ever so popular death-by-chocolate cake, every bite tantalizes you to take another bite, and write a new task on next your New Year resolution. The cakes are amazingly soft, chewy, delicious and not overwhelming(which, like a well-mixed tropical punch, is incredibly dangerous). When I celebrated my GF’s birthday, I bought her two types of cake from Pastiche and a left-over piece of yellow cake from the office, and she absolutely devoured the yellow cake, to the last spoonful of frosting from her nose. That being said, I had recently made a purchase of an anniversary cake and they botched up the dedication, which… I guess it wasn’t a super big deal since all it was missing were the names. Thus, one star deduction. Food: 5 stars Price: 4 – 5 stars — cakes are really cheap Ambiance: n/a Service: n/a

Hometown eats! Gregg’s is a fixture in RI, and I’m not just saying that cause our president stopped in while in town. The food here is consistent and has the NE fare done right! Fish and chips are offered on wed & fri and are excellent! Make sure to put vinegar on this chips! I also enjoy their sandwiches, especially the thanksgiving for those times when you’re craving a treat! Ofcourse there are the sweet treats! Gregg’s is known for it’s delicious cakes– most are 4 layers! I love the giving cake which is peanut butter and chocolate… Yummy! Price range is moderate and the portions are generous. I prefer the pub but the dining room is nice as well, just a bit more noisy.

Although far from the exemplar of cleanliness, you can always count on a consistent meal, of the family-variety, here at this restaurant/lounge. With impressive Posi-touch technology(designed and owned by the company), your order is punched into a computer, sent back to the kitchen and then brought to your table with about a 60% success rate. I don’t get it. Seriously, I’m flabbergasted when a server insists on memorizing the entire order. I’m a heavy modifier. This isn’t Twin Oaks. And even when I’m there, I’m not impressed by this practice. Write it down. Sub fries for sweets, no coleslaw, marble rye and no cheese. And then my VEGGIE burger club comes out on white and with bacon instead of roasted red pepper strips as I requested? Write it down. I once saw the State of Rhode Island’s very own Educational-Demigod, Alan Shawn Feinstein here. He was wearing a pale yellow v-neck sweater and from what I could witness he did not even come close to finishing his fries. Apparently when he says«tuh-geh-thuh we can help end…», it doesn’t apply to his own eating practices. Everyone’s favorite philanthropist’s words are mocked here. What with the long waits for your order and constant send-backs, at the hand of their waitstaff’s collective poor memories, Gregg’s has contributed it’s fair share to not ending, but causing hunguh. Thank goodness for the complimentary rolls and pickles.

I love Gregg’s for their chocolate cake. Have you read Matilda? Remember that cake that little bruce eats on stage? Yeah. Just like that. Moist, covered in frosting. The frosting is generic, chocolate frosting, like what you would get from a can of frosting from Betty Crocker. Why I rated this 3 stars is because I recently stopped in for a full meal. I ordered the calamari Mediterranean salad. Fried calamari was crispy for the most part with a few soggy pieces, but so greasy. My salad was I tossed and I could not taste any dressing. It seemed as if my calamari grease was the dressing! Luckily a friend of mine had leftover balsamic from his salad so I added it to the calamari salad — much, much better. Gregg’s! Consider taking better care of those salad leaves! They need love too. Next, our waitress was so eager to kick us out at 8:15. Myself and another friend were still eating when she started to clear the table. She then came back and asked if others wanted their food wrapped. I was in the middle of eating! Sheesh!

We heard that the chocolate cake here couldn’t beat, so we came down here for dessert on a Sunday night.
Despite half of the restaurant being empty, we weren’t addressed by the host for five minutes, which seemed odd. Our server was helpful, if a little spread thin. The cake, on the other hand, lived up to its expectations– for $ 5.45, Gregg’s dishes out a whopping slice of chocolate cake with four layers, complete with an icing that’s not too rich or too sweet. The texture was smooth and velvety, pairing just right with both wine(which, I should note, was poured almost all the way up the glass) and coffee. Gregg’s does do carry-out at the front of the restaurant– if you’re just coming for the cake, this is probably the way to go.
