I spoke to Garrett and he was knowledgeable and very pleasant. This Army Navy store carries a selection of new and old items.

Some army/navy surplus stores are dumbed down and have almost no real army/navy surplus. The good news is this store is NOT like that. Cramped, yes, but good selection. Coats, bags, shirts, pants, hats, cloves, vests, knives etc. in a glass case at the front, and so on. It’s a fun place to browse, even though it doesn’t take long to see everything. Prices were okay. I’m sure you could find many items for cheaper online. Not a bad place to stop by on Thayer Street.

I just had a great experience, service wise. I has taking forever picking out gloves, and the guy was nothing but helpful. They also answered questions well, finding odd items, knowing the material of some of the old surplus sweaters. I’m sure you can find a lot of this stuff online for a few bucks cheaper, but browsing is fun, and they certainly had some items you wouldn’t think to look for.

Stopped in here to pick up a pair of pants for a friend who said it was the only place that carried the kind they wanted. I had my pup with me, and carried him in, not being sure how pet friendly they were and not wanting to leave him in the car on such a hot day. What a great experience! They are very pet friendly, and helped me to find the exact right pair of pants that I was looking for. In and out within no more than 10 minutes. Very small store, street parking is a b*tch on Thayer, but the service was top notch… And they liked my dog!

So this place is ok if you’re looking for random costume stuff but I can’t lie… the staff there couldn’t care less if you were alive let alone buying something from them. It’s a tiny little place but they have a good assortment of hats and uniforms. They have a glass display with more ‘tough’ items like knives, metals etc. I have found the occasional piece in there to complete a costume… it’s just meh. Not good, not bad… worth a pop in if you’re on Thayer anyway. If you need a lil extra bonus to your costume, this is your kinda place.

This is a fun place to go. Is your Vietnam Veteran ball cap getting threadbare? No problem; they gottem. Always wanted to wear a l970’s Bundeswehr battle jacket? Just choose your size, mein Herr. You say your Swiss Army Knife is boring you and you want something a bit more aggro? Just look in the glass case up front. A few weeks ago I wanted a Zippo lighter. Went downtown Providence and couldn’t find anything more authentic than a Chinese clone. Went up to the smoke shop on Thayer and it was closed for some reason — so it was off to Army & Navy. Bingo! They had one… sheesh, they got everything! Whether it’s jungle boots, Foreign Legion-style para berets, web gear or any other paramilitary delight, these folks will hook you up faster than you can yell«HOO-rah!» It’s a bit cramped and not easy to get around in but hey, that’s part of the charm of places like this. Reminds you of those early mornings in the barracks with fifty leven million guys all bustling around trying to get ready for morning formation.
