I suppose you could say that Nachand Canoe and Kayak is as professional as it needs to be. I think it’s run by a family living on the second floor of this building that sits on the bank of Harrod’s Creek. We rolled up a little past 11 in the morning, and rang the bell. The young man who answered seemed groggy. «I’ll be out in a minute!» He hustled down and set us up with canoes, paddles and life jackets. I asked him what their normal opening time is. «10 or 11,» he says. We gave him a handful of bills, and he gave us a shove into the water, and that was about it. Maybe we could have received more instruction if we had asked for it, but I kind of like the no-muss approach. Harrod’s Creek had a little more trash and debris than I remember, perhaps a consequence of the interstate construction. Still, if you get a little further upstream from the Ohio, it becomes more tranquil, plenty of fish, birds and turtles. If it hasn’t rained, you’re hard-pressed to even notice a current, so an out-and-back trip is no great challenge. We’re thinking of trying Cave Country Canoes on the Blue River in Indiana next time, but I expect the odds are good that we’ll end up right back here on Harrod’s again next summer.

Depends on what you are looking for… I went on a Sunday morning at 9am. Called the number but no answer so just drove there, rang the bell and they came down and got the kayaks and off you go! No hassle which is cool. Only thing is, when we came back no one was there to help us get out. Had to do it ourselves and almost sprained my knee so be careful! No waiver, no nothing, you literally just had over $ 30 bucks and off you go!
