I’m updating my review to reflect our experience renting the Veranda room for my brother’s rehearsal dinner. If you’re looking for my take on the regular restaurant, see my previous review. My parent’s held my brother’s rehearsal dinner in the Veranda at CQ and it was absolutely lovely. You have a beautiful view of the river from all around the room. The waitstaff handling our party was awesome. Stacey was exceptional and so sweet. They did an unbelievable job and kept the drinks flowing. Plus, the food was AMAZING! We had a buffet featuring shrimp and grits, hot brown casserole, and beef brisket as the main dishes. They were all SOGOOD that it’s hard to pick a favorite. The entire experience was perfect. We are so happy we chose the Veranda to host the rehearsal dinner!

My wife and I spent a wonderful afternoon out on our boat and decided to stop in at Captains Quarters before calling it a night. I had just finished tying the boat up when a waitress informed us that due to it being a holiday weekend there would be a $ 2.00 per foot charge for tying up to their dock. Well at 30 ft. this was 60 bucks but they would return to me $ 50 in the form of a gift card but would charge me a $ 10 service fee. Now I have enjoyed drinks and peel and eat shrimp at CQ for years but their food sucks. I expressed my displeasure to the young lady insured her it wasn’t her fault but untied and went up Harrods Creek to River Creek and had dinner there. I just wonder if the management at CQ charged the custormers who arrived in cars or those who avail themselves of the chairs on the lawn for viewing the scenery on the river the same amount. If CQ worked on providing a finer quality of food and returned the discriminating«cover charge» towards the tab I would have no problem at all with that, but to make me come back and spend the gift card is just insult to injury. Time to try the very ugly Docs Cantina downstream.

Great outdoor dining. Tuna Takaki was great and Grouper Caribbean style very good, but would like more moisture in rice, black bean and relish. View, price, value 5 stars.

We love the atmosphere here! It’s like being on the coast except you’re on the Ohio. Food is mediocre service is good but the atmosphere is why you go. If you’re going in the summer expect long wait times if you don’t have a reservation.

We love going to this place because it’s on the river. The grounds are so nice to set or take a strol around.

We were greeted and seated immediately. Because it was a cold night, we did not sit outside but were seated at a table by the huge windows. At this table we could watch the sun set unencumbered by the heads of others. We didn’t order any appetizers because I wanted to get dessert later. My North Atlantic Cod served«Low Country Style». The Low country style preparation consists of frying the fish and serving it with Charleston(non-spicy) etoufee, smoked gouda cheese grits and collard greens. Instead of having the fish fried, I had it grilled. I did not substitute anything else. For dessert, we got the Ultimate brownie sundae. The menu said it was enough to share and OMG, was it. The dish was actually 2 brownies(not served warm :-() with 2 scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. Everything was drizzled with fudge and caramel sauces. The 2 brownies were sliced diagonally and placed around the plate which made them appear to be a lot of brownies. The ice cream scoops were placed inside the bpeople. s. The entire dish should be enough to share for 4 people. The entire experience(food, service AnD atmosphere) was really good.

A classy summer joint that will take you to the coast as soon as you open the door. The food is good and the service is great! This polo and khaki short venue will wind down your summer days.

CQ is one of my favorite places in Louisville. The atmosphere is lively and the food is always great. I love the hot brown. One of the best ways to spend a nice evening is by the river with a drink! Nothing better!

We eat here at least five or six times a summer. I give 4 stars purely on atmosphere. Eat outside and it is a wonderfully relaxing experience. Food is okay, I usually eat the fried fish sandwich which is sometimes better than others but its a good portion and what can I say I like fried fish. If you haven’t been, it’s a must do.

Food and ambiance was great. Try the drink specials, they are worth it. Get a table along the windows to get the river view at Sunset. Recommended to call ahead for reservation. Check out the Open Table app in case you struggle getting a reservation.

Atmosphere and view surely make this place a Five Star location but unfortunately their food this trip brought it down to a three. Food alone may have dropped them to a two but the great service by our waitress Brandi raised this review up. Got a hamburger this trip and was totally disappointed, the cost of $ 11 doesn’t include cheese, fried egg, etc… adding any real extras that are typically standard on a gourmet burger could easily bring the price up to $ 15 or $ 16 dollars and sorry… this burger isn’t worth that. Even cooked correctly, which mine wasn’t, the burger seems undersized for the bun it was served on. Even Hardee’s can do better… Fries were hot and good though. May also want to try their bottled beer, I ordered a draft wheat selection, and while the beer was tasty, it was a little warmer than a true German pub would serve. All in all… we did enjoy ourselves and would return, there’s nothing better than watching the river and enjoying great company and a beer even if it’s warm… Just hopeful they up their game on the food.

Giving CQ a 2 star only for the atmosphere! Menu sucks and is too expensive for what you get. Needs to be way more Kid friendly!!! Kids need More choices of entrees other than what’s offered. I would suggest half portion entrees for kids instead of all fried or a hook burgers, come on now some kids do like healthy food and parents don’t want to pay $ 18 for a salad for an 8 year old. Also they need to have something for Kids to do while their parents are waiting for Dinner and anticipating the huge bill at the end! I would suggest a swing set, mini golf, something other than the two corn hole boards.(unless the message is kids aren’t welcome, and in that case maybe we should find a new restaurant to enjoy) We love CQ and last summer we spent too much time listening to the kids saying we’re bored, where’s our food!!!

The food was subpar and the service was god-awful. We had to wait for an hour for our food even though there were only three tables there, including us. When we asked why it took forever, our water said he would discount our check and then failed to do so and when we brought it to his attention, he finally took some off, but it was only like $ 15 off of a $ 75 meal. I had always heard great things about this place but I guess I grossly overestimated its quality. It wasn’t at all what I expected. The food was bland, the service was poor, everything was overpriced and it was nowhere near as fancy as I thought it’d be. The view is really the only good part about this restaurant. I will not be returning.

As a regular patron of Captains Quarters I continue to be more and more disappointed each time I go back. In the past year the menu has shortened, food is average and service has declined. The view is the only reason to go.

Ate here earlier today for the Sunday brunch buffet. Very nice spread including waffle station and omelette station. Excellent variety of entrees and sides. Including fried chicken and hot brown casserole. So much to choose from. For dessert I had chocolate cherry mousse and Derby Pie. $ 19.95. Very pleasant atmosphere. Great river view from our table. No less than five mink coats shared the main dining area. Some folks casual like me some all dressed up. I recommend this brunch!

This is a wonderfully scenic spot nestled within prospect KY. A beautiful cabin style restaurant awaits with floor to ceiling windows and a stone fireplace. There’s a large outdoor seating area that is perfect to enjoy on a nice day where you can watch the boats pass and the ripples of the river. You can also see this spectacular view from the inside as well. The main draw of the restaurant is the beautiful settings and the quiet, cozy interiors. The food is decent. The Mahi Mahi tacos included a very flavorful pico de gallo and sauce inside — but the fish was dry it had a texture more like chicken. The fried cod was fishy, tasty and the breading was well seasoned. The ahi tuna was well prepared and the peppered seasoning on the sides gave it a nice kick. The main downfall with this restaurant is it gives the expectation of a location that specializes in seafood. However, there aren’t many seafood dishes. The level of freshness is also lacking in many of the seafood dishes they do have. The onion rings however tasted very fresh and overall it’s a place worth trying if only for the atmosphere alone.

This is one of my favorite places to bring visitors. We recently got to do just that when beautiful weather and a visit from my in laws conspired to create a lovely afternoon. I really recommend sitting outside. It’s so nice to be able to enjoy a meal and/or drinks as you watch the boats pass by on the river. The food isn’t my favorite in the city but it’s decent and the prices are very affordable.

CQ is always my go to place when I want to eat outside. It’s such a beautiful setting, with plenty of places to sit outside. I usually go on the weekend, when they have a live band, which is always fun. I love that you can go sit by the water and enjoy a pre or post dinner drink. Word of caution, you will not get a seat outside unless you are willing to wait more than an hour. They do not take reservations for dinning in the outside area(they will take reservations for the inside area though). Also, I’ve ordered a mule there before and it came out in a pint glass… weird. I swear it doesn’t taste as good unless it’s out of a copper cup. But, all the other drinks were pretty good. The food is pretty good too. The BBQ nachos are so good. They are covered in cheese sauce, BBQ sauce, and yummy pork. They are not lacking in the meat department, that’s for sure. Most of the other dishes we’ve tried(gyro, fries) was just ok. But, I think everyone goes for the view and drinks, not the food.

I have been a fan of Captain’s Quarters location and atmosphere for a very long time but not always a huge fan of the food, until now. My husband and I have a boat and enjoy taking it out on the river and stopping by Captain;s Quarters for cocktails and/or dinner. We were out yesterday and hadn’t had lunch or dinner– so we were hungry and ready to sit out on the deck and enjoy the sun while stuffing our face. The wind was blowing rather hard, so the water was choppy and the current was rough. When we pulled up to dock the boat, we were having a little bit of a problem as our boat is on the smaller side and the water was crashing into us non-stop. One of the guys working the docks gladly helped us find a calmer spot and tie our boat off safely. We were seated on the outside deck immediately and ordered wine and beer. Our server was a bit overwhelmed but she was nice and doing her best. The hubby ordered a Gyro sandwich and fries– which he loved so much that I didn’t even get to try it. I had grilled shrimp tacos. Great flavor! Just enough spice and fresh cabbage on top to give it a refreshing crunch. Big portion too– there were 3 tacos for $ 14. I look forward to many more warm Summer evenings on the river. Next time I am ordered the big bucket of shrimp cocktail and a Miami Vice cocktail.
