Changes in pricing within the last year have made it unaffordable for the average young professional.

I have always had great experiences at La Jolie for coloring, cut and style. Nicole does a great job on my hair and I recommended her to a friend who absolutely LOVED her cut as well. Definitely a reliably good place, and the other stylists who have substituted when Nicole was unavailable have been excellent as well. Highly recommended!

Update: Although again I can’t speak for women’s cuts, there are certainly some stylists that are great with longer men’s cuts. I’ve been maintaining a relatively difficult longer style with Allie for a while now, and her attention to detail(which I’m sure is representative of the whole salon) is exceptional. Previous:(3 stars) This low rating only reflects the fact that for men with shorter hair, it’s probably just easier to go to a barber or men’s salon. The hairdressers will only use scissors, which limits you to mid length or longer cuts. That being said, I’ve had good haircuts here; they’re super professional, friendly, and knowledgable(plus they do complimentary cleanups between cuts). I can’t speak for women’s cuts, but for the high flat price($ 40+) for a men’s cut, I can’t say that I’ll go here regularly for short, precise dos.

My family and I have been coming to La Jolie for a few years. I’ve stopped going as much recently as I moved out of the area, but every time I come back it’s been great… if more expensive. Most recently I was there for my wedding. My mom, sister, and bridesmaid also came to have their hair done. My mom also had her makeup done. Amanda took care of my updo, Sandra did my sister’s blowout, and Savi did my mom’s blowout and makeup. All turned out perfectly, even though nobody had a trial(except me). My mom’s hair stayed full and shiny for the next 10+ hours, and aside from a lipstick touchup she didn’t need to worry about her makeup at all. Savi really took her style and preferences into account, even though my mom and she wear very different looks. She used the lipstick and eyeliner my mom brought in to create a look that suited my mom and transitioned really well from full sunlight to dimly-lit nighttime. My sister required very little in terms of hair, but Sandra was still meticulous and made sure she and I were happy. It’s a fine line when a 14-year-old tomboy is a bridesmaid: making her look age appropriate and formal while keeping her happy… is difficult. My other bridesmaid(I’m not sure who her stylist was) decided on sideswept curls that turned out beautifully. Several weeks before, she had streaks of blue and purple in her black hair, but those had faded to yellowy-bleached by the time the wedding rolled around. She was fine with that, but when they offered to quickly touch up the highlights she said sure. They turned out amazing: ever so slightly blue, so they didn’t look as neglected. It really brought out the curls in her hair too! Finally, I want to give a million stars to Amanda. I first met her when, kind of on a whim, I made a same-day appointment to have 15 inches of hair cut off into a pixie. They recommended Amanda, who was better than I could have dreamed. I showed her some pictures of what I wanted and she was so creative in adapting them to my specific hair type and hairline. I ended up with exactly the look I wanted. Amanda brought that same creativity to my bridal updo. She listened carefully to my vague ideas, guided me where I was unsure, and did a ton of research to help my less than ideal hair into my ideal hairstyle. It held up through a 7 hour outdoor wedding with two hours under a veil, and I never had to think about maintaining it. When I took it out for the night it still looked fantastic. I’m knocking off a star for the salon for two reasons: one, they didn’t seat us all together, or even close to each other! Two, there can be occasional administrative problems. I recommend checking in to confirm every appointment you make.

Great stylists, products and location. New management continues to add more cost and no improvement or change in quality of services.

I recently tried out La Jolie for an eye brow wax with a lady named Savi, which I have to say is the worst eye brow wax I have received. She completely ruined the shape of my eyebrows and now I have two differently shaped eyebrows that look awful. STAYAWAYFROMTHISOVERPRICEDPLACE.

Campbell is the best hairstylist! Ask for him. He gives the best head massages while shampooing too. I have really unruly curly hair and really trust Campbell to give me the best cut. My blow out lasts for days too.

I have been going to mahir for over 5 years and have no intention of going anywhere else. I have never had a bad haircut. I have gone from long hair to short. He really puts the extra time in every time. I’ve even started letting him color my hair. It’s been a worthwhile investment. If you are looking for something or someone new I would encourage you to try mahir!

I’ve only had one less-than-spectacular cut here when(I cheated on my regular stylist with some chick) and after calling them the next day to say I wasn’t thrilled with her work, they invited me back to see my stylist for free and he made it all better. Mahir is my go-to-guy; he’s very thorough, gives me an even better cut than I expect every time, and doesn’t talk my ear off while he works. Allie does flawless manicures-she’s meticulous and professional.

Melannie cuts and colors my hair and she is AWESOME! She takes the style/color you want and helps transform it to your hair type, coloring and your face. I have nothing but great things to say about her and would recommend her to anyone. I’ve gotten tons of compliments on my hair! Thanks for the awesome cut!

There are some good stylists at La Jolie, but Maggie(Malgorzata Krawcewicz) does not fall into this category. This week, I had the worst experience of my past 2 years of styling at La Jolie. I would suggest Maggie spend some time to improve her etiquette and approach. She aggressively slathered the color on my roots and dripped the color all over the cape, my face, and neck. After processing, Maggie did not even check on my hair after the assistant finished shampooing. Also, due to my grey hair I need to have it colored every 4 weeks and cannot afford a blowout in addition to the monthly single process color. The Express Finish offered by the assistant was horrific. I asked for her to use a round brush because my thick coarse hair does not dry quickly by simply blow drying without tools, but she said no and offered to schedule a $ 35 blowdry if I wanted that. I asked if I could dry my own hair since it was cold outside and I did not want to walk out with wet or frizzy hair, but the assistant said I could not do that either. She dried the middle of the hair shaft and did not dry the roots or the ends; this is a waste of time for someone with frizzy hair. The front desk employees were very nice and high quality upon my check-in and check-out. I would recommend Sherri, Leah, or Amanda if you are looking for a Level 1 stylist at this salon, as I will definitely only schedule with them in the future.

I’ve been going here for a few months now. Best haircuts I’ve ever had. I did a lot of research on Unilocal before going, I was disappointed. The free trim helps makes this comparable in terms of cost to other barber shops.

I went to get my white blonde hair touched up at the roots. It really was an awful experience for me, as my hair dresser, insisted her way to dye my hair was better. It turned to be bright yellow which I have working months to keep white blonde. Additionally, service took a really long time and my hairdresser was not attentive to me and looked like she cared at all… it was apparent when my shirt had bleach all over it. I didn’t realize until I went home and saw it. Short staffed or not for the day, I am still paying for the service and was extremely dissatisfied at how I was treated and I’m usually a very flexible and calm individual.

My review is for a level 1 men’s hair cut. The girl who cut my hair had little to no idea what she was doing. And as I’m scanning the other reviews, it looks like I’m not the only one who was disappointed by the level 1 cut. Unfortunately I don’t remember her name, and I know it’s rough to give the whole salon a bad rating from one stylist, but that was just my experience. My advice: fork out the extra $ 20 or whatever to get someone more experienced, or go somewhere else.

very nice place! I got a haircut from Delia and it was great! She really listens to you and give you advice on what really works for you. She also does a wonderful blow out too. and she is just very friendly and bubbly and wants to talk to you and find out about you. The salon itself it’s nice and clean. All the staffs here are very friendly I would highly recommend this salon and Delia

I’ve gotten my hair cut at this salon for a few years but recently I’ve stopped going back. I used to get my hair cut by Angie before she moved back to Memphis and she was amazing! Miss her. After she left, I bounced around between apprentices and regular Level 1’s but it’s not the same. Getting a hair cut should be wonderful and uplifting but it hasn’t been the case here during my last few. One of the stylists during a visit last year cut herself while cutting my hair. I asked her if she’s okay and she told me it happens all the time because she works with scissors. The whole experience was strange and she kept trying to convince me to come get my hair colored at the salon. I felt really insulted by her comments because even though I dye my hair at home, I don’t feel that I should have been treated that way. I hinted that I don’t have the money to do that but she kept mentioning that she would do such a great job with it. Weird way to try to build up clientele if you ask me. Even though it’s been quite a while since that cut I still have a bad taste in my mouth just thinking about it. The cut I got from her was great but her attitude just killed it for me. A Level 1 hair cut is approx $ 50 and for someone in college it’s an indulgence not a regular thing. I am looking for a new salon where I won’t be talked down to.

I only get my hair cut here. I live in Philly but work in Princeton, and I always find time to schedule my haircut over my lunch hour, instead of doing it somewhere closer to home. The salon experience you get for the price is a great value. I’ve probably had 3 people cut my hair since I’ve been going here, and they’ve all been great. I highly recommend this salon for men looking for a good haircut that is several notches above your average barber shop hacking. **update** I just went there for a cut and figured I’d ask for a beard trimming while they were at it — they’ve done it before for me. But this time… they charged me $ 15 bucks. I recommend trimming your beard yourself at home before you go. LESSONLEARNED.

I got a Level 1 stylist. I grew my hair out for 2 years, planning to donate to locks of love. I asked the stylist to cut 10 inches off, and then style it. She did the requisite pony tailing(I’m a guy), and did the cut. She then proceeded to cut it quite short(much shorter than I wanted). I don’t mind the cut, but I could’ve done the short crew cut myself. Anyone could’ve. She chopped off 14 inches, when I only wanted 11. That’s going to cost me 6 months of hair growing to reach the length I should’ve come out with. I gave the other stars because she was really nice, a great shampooing, and she really CARED(after the shampoo, she said she saw an inconsistency, and proceeded to bust out the shears again — who does that??). I’ll come back, but I will definitely be more forceful and vocal on how I want my hair. So…be vocal!

Update: I got an email from a stylist at La Jolie who seems very cool. He wasn’t the one who gave me the terrible experience I had there last time, but he apologized for it anyway and wanted to make it right. What an awesome guy! I already have an appointment elsewhere to get my hair cut tomorrow so I won’t be taking him up on his offer, but it was definitely appreciated. If you are going to check out La Jolie, I’d recommend trying to get an appointment with him.(Check out his great reviews from others here.) If I don’t like the cut I get tomorrow, I’ll definitely try to get an appointment with him next — if he can fit me in!
