CINNAMON&SUGARQUINOA! Nuff said. Literally the only sort of convincing for you to come check this place out during brunch! Up until this day, I’ve only had quinoa in a savory form, but now that I know that it can be turned into a dessert… my mind was blown away! The cinnamon & sugar quinoa was served with toasted almonds, dried apricot, vanilla yogurt, fresh berries, & a drizzle of rosemary honey. The quinoa was warm and the rest of the ingredients were sweet and cold, so you get this sort of healthy concoction that tastes like it should be a 2am guilty pleasure dessert haha. I would come back here just to eat this dish for brunch every weekend! I guess we can talk about the other food too, which were also really delicious. For my main dish, I got the short rib hash and boy was that pulled beef short rib juicy and tender! They were topped off with perfectly poached eggs and a chimichurri sauce! On the bottom were sautéed potatoes, onions, and peppers. Perfect meal for a cold Valentine’s Day! Enough to earn any heart during this holiday! My boyfriend got the breakfast nachos… which could be the best nachos I’ve ever had. I’m now going to be unsatisfied with movie nachos, because their nachos are definitely a treat! Something that I would eat while watching Netflix… aka every night haha We also got the beignets… nothing special. That’s why I gave this place 4 stars for the lackluster beignets and also long… long…wait times for our food and our water being refilled. Granted it is Valentine’s Day today, so maybe next time we come on a non holiday, I can revise my review! Happy Eating!

After my 15th time to the tavern I think… wow we are so fortunate to have this place. Consistently great and simple while amazing. Thanks.

Not a kid friendly brunch. We arrived with reservations to be told we were lucky they could still fit us in because we did not reserve for 3(baby). We were also told no boosters or high chairs. Waitress seemed off put that we were even there. Despite the negative start we stuck around because we heard the food was great. Had the cheddar andoulie hash. I counted the 3 half pieces of andoulie. Was really looking forward to that side. All of the food was mediocre, which may have more to do with the negative experience we were having than the food itself. Unfortunately, I don’t know that we will be back to find out.

We were in for restaurant week. We decided not to order from the restaurant week menu, since it seemed not particularly exciting. We ordered the herb ½ chicken and Asian chicken. Both were delicious! The ½ chicken was served with lemon pepper green beans which did not have a flavor of lemon or pepper, but were simply buttered green beans(but not bad at all). The herb chicken was juicy and flavorful. The Asian chicken had a nice spice and the presentation of both was wonderful. We finished the meal with salted caramel pot de crème. WOW! Great! The old fashioned was made properly and they have a decent wine selection. Our server was prompt, but not overbearing. We had a great meal and great service. Not feeling like we need to rush back, but will definitely visit again.

If you’re looking for a great burger, service and just an overall pleasant atmosphere, this place has it all. Been coming here for several years now and I’ll tell you, the burgers are some of the best I’ve ever had. The staff is polite and efficient. Tasted several other items on the menu, never disappointed. Give it a shot… And if you’re tastes buds are as well traveled as mine, I’m sure you’ll become a regular.

We came here for brunch and were surprised that we were able to walk in on a Sunday at noon and have no wait to be seated. I ordered the french toast which was ok, but forgettable. My boyfriend had the eggs benedict which he said were quite forgettable as well. In addition to our food, I had what can only be described as the worst spicy blood mary of my life. When I took my first sip, it tasted like watered down ketchup with zero spice. I talked to the waiter about it, and he brought me over a bottle of tabasco sauce to doctor it up. That fixed some of the spiciness issue, but not how watery it was, so I spoke to the waiter again and he brought me a little glass of tomato juice. After adding this to my drink as well(along with salt and pepper) it still wasn’t good, but I gave up and quit trying. I left 90% of my blood mary in the glass(although I’m still not sure why they couldn’t just remake it for me), and the waiter didn’t take it off our bill knowing I had to put more effort into my own drink than the bartender did. As we walked out, he did shout at me «remind me about the blood mary next time and I’ll hook you up with better.» Uhhhh… buddy, that’s not how you handle this sort of thing. You deal with it the day it happens. I highly doubt we will ever return.

This was the third time I visited Tavern in the Village and it was even better than the last two times. The food is delicious every time we come here, but even more important is the service. Our waiter was wonderful. He was attentive but not overbearing and we appreciated him very much. If you want some good food with a large wine and beer list, this is definitely a great place to go.

I love the tavern. It is a great go to place that is very close to our house. I’m not a fan of their salads, that’s the only down side. The ahi is way too seasoned and the southwest salad is soggy and Odd. I think they have the best breakfast in town though. Best B&G’s ever! And the breakfast nachos are delicious !

Wanted to love it since its 2 blocks from my house but food was good not great and the quality doesn’t make up for poor value. My wife and I shared two entrees and an appetizer. Appetizer was the croquettes which were fried well but pretty bland but had a great sauce drizzled on them. Garlic chicken was tasty but super dry and I like dry, served with green beans and mashed potatoes which were both really good. Stroganoff meat, mushroom and gravy mix was delicious but noodles were just okay and more work to pick up since they were so thin. Asparagus was decent. A couple glasses of wine and a couple beers later and I left unimpressed with $ 90+ I dropped here.

Went here for dinner with the family, no wait which was great, not blown away by the food though. We had hummus and chicken skewers for appetizers. I was starving so we ended up eating everything but not the most flavorful food I’ve tried. Then I had the sea scallops for dinner, each scallop had a different texture(total of 4), was not sure if that meant they all were cooked a little different or if it was the topping that made it seem that way. It was good, but I will try something different next time. The rest of my family got the kale salad with salmon, everyone ate the whole thing and all said it was tasty! Then we had chocolate cake for dessert, moist and filled with chocolate delight, definitely the best part of the meal! I will be going back, the waiter was nice and the vibe was neat. I just will be trying a different entrée next time.

I always leave Tavern a little disappointed. It’s truly nothing bad but it’s also nothing great. The décor is a comfortable, boring Johnson County look. The service is usually good unless you go during off hours and then it can be lacking. The food is fine. Nothing special, nothing mind blowing but always fine and passable. The place that seems to thrive here is the bar. The bar area seems to be where the regulars hang out and treated nicely. I wish that would carry over into the dining room, also. It’s all OK.

Still Five Stars. In Every Way. Updated for amazing service(we waited for our reserved table for maybe 10 minutes and the manager came over to apologize and brought over a free appetizer plate!). He even offered to take our order? I mean. Wow. Also, since I wrote my first review in 2014, I have probably frequented this location 20 times(yes, and we host many of our happy hour drinks here with friends). It’s our go to. The donut dessert is great to share and is to die for — I also think its $ 6 dollars(maybe $ 4) — what a great deal. It’s the best dessert in the KC area(tied with the raw lime key pie at Café Gratitude they never seem to have!!!)

Great food, and great service! But oh the noise! The noise the noise the noise! I could not believe how exceedingly loud this restaurant became. It was crowded and the 6 patrons in the booth next to us must had some hilarious stories because they ALL laughed and shrieked the entire evening. Our waitress even told us she was hiding in the kitchen to keep her own ear drums from bursting! But the food was great, loved the trout… The brussel sprouts needed more time in the oven. Crisp sprouts are hard to chew. Hoping we get a quieter night next time!

We redeemed our free offer for humus, our waitress Angela is the very best and sweetest person you just can’t imagine. Be sure and ask for her if you frequent the restaurant. One of our guests was running late and the staff was very courteous. Love this place.

We absolutely love the tavern! Anthony, Kelly, Christie and the entire staff are phenomenal! The ambiance is beyond excellent and the food is always wonderful! My only recommendation to the chef is to bring the chicken and rice soup from Mission Farms to the Village!!!

I got the crab cake BLT which was surprisingly phenomenal. The downside was that they were two crab cakes awkwardly sitting in a long bun. The bacon was cooked perfectly to compliment the crab cakes and the diced tomatoes and chopped lettuce made it easy to eat. In terms of beer selection, they are extremely limited, but I’m spoiled with beer because I’ve been to Yard House twice this week. The service was a bit rushed: two people within two minutes asking me for my drink order. Also, when I asked for a recommendation, my server started listing out half of the menu. Overall, great food and great atmosphere. Would definitely bring a date here.

The spot where Tavern is nestled into has been a revolving door for restaurants, but I think it’s safe to say that has finally come to a close. The Tavern will be a staple in the Village for a long time. The atmosphere here is pretty perfect for meeting up with family, which is key around the PV and Mission Hills area. The menu is diverse enough to intrigue you, but not so big that it overwhelms you. Usually I’ll venture out and try a bunch of options when I visit a restaurant repeatedly, but I’m going to be honest here and let you know that I get the burger 9⁄10 times and it’s absolutely delicious. The price is right, the quality is top-notch, and the fries that come with it are near perfection. The Cuban sandwich is another family fav and it’s really good. The Tavern surprises me with it’s versatility; I mentioned a good family spot, but oddly enough it would serve as a good date spot and also a good gathering place for drinks. I’m glad this spot has an official anchor tenant with The Tavern and now I need to drag myself out of bed early enough to try the breakfast some weekend.

This is a limited review and I will try The Tavern again and most likely update this review. I went to the Tavern for the first time last night for drinks with a friend. The Moscow Mule was on my mind as summer is ending and my desire for light, crisp drinks will wane. Additionally I picked up two more copper mugs from an estate the previous weekend. Sadly my ice maker is clogged up with Kansas City’s finest hard water(hardness level is 107… I prefer around 30) so my ice maker was out and I ran out of store bought ice. That is only relevant because I really wanted a Moscow Mule and could not make one at home. I walk in for the first time to The Tavern. It was much less busy than I expected. My friend who joined me told me its usually much busier. I ordered a Moscow Mule. I got a vodka with lime and something. It came in a glass. I did not complain. It wasn’t a mule but it also wasn’t horrible. I ordered another one. I asked for a copper mug and I asked if they used ginger beer. I got a NO and a YES. When my second one came out there was no ginger beer in it. I asked if I could get some added. The guy brought me a pour and it finally tasted like a mule. Overall the drink experience was not good. The place calls itself the Tavern. Any good tavern should have a copper mug and know how to make pretty standard drinks. I will go again and get some food. I hear good things about it.
