Elite Event: Bunches of Brunches at Tavern In The Village

This was an interesting YEE, because there were different times and two locations that a Unilocal Elite could attend the event. In addition, we had to make our own reservations at the restaurant. I chose the Tavern In The Village because I was meeting David A. there. I actually wouldn’t have gone to this YEE since I was pretty busy with work; however, this would be the last time I could see David A. before he moves to New York so I could take a 3 – 4 hour break to drive down here.
I arrived at the restaurant and there was a long table just for us Unilocal Elites. A lot showed up late but that was fine and the restaurant staff didn’t mind. The menu of the food included some dishes that were on the restaurant’s normal menu and a couple that were new. I don’t remember which ones were the new dishes. I ordered the Denver Omelette, but I really wanted to order everything. lol
The beignets were so good! I definitely would have to come back for that. The cinnamon sugar-​covered donuts were alright but just not the same as the beignets. All of the food came out at the same time except for mine. I think I was one of the last ones to get my food. I didn’t mine because I was taking pictures of other Unilocalers’ food. The Denver Omelette was great and I liked how they had Cholula Hot Sauce. I usually mention this but in my opinion, I thought Cholula Hot Sauce goes well with eggs and any omelette. The biscuit was good as well and filled me up. The waiter came by every so often and asked everybody if anybody needed anything. Great!

Awesome event and the menu selected menu was really diverse and good. Great to share a table with some of my fave Elites. The staff were awesome, the location great. I only have one complaint. I had the Crab Cakes Benedict. The dish was good save for the fact my poached eggs were way overcooked and the yolks wer the consistency of a hard boiled yolk.
That still was not enough to lose a star. Thanks Matt and Heather!

A fantastic brunch and opportunity to introduce a friend to the Unilocal community.
At first I was a little meh about this event. It didn’t come across like we would all have the opportunity to sit together and socialize like we normally do, but it ended up that 11:30 at this location was chosen by many people so we all sat together at a long table.
The waiter who cared for our table was fantastic! You never had to ask for a refill, he was bringing one as you were taking your last sip. We did a little moving around and he didn’t get lost with it at all. He was friendly and very polite. I would want him for my waiter every time I go.
The food was amazing! We started with beignets and cinnamon sugar donuts that came with a delicious vanilla sauce. I will say I prefered the beignets, but only because they were not as sweet. My friend ordered the biscuits and gravy which I tasted first. There was a flavor in it that I could not pin point where it was coming from, but it made my taste buds super happy! I had the Saussice Madame-​Provencal and it was luscious! Rich sauces, sweet tomato jam, and that taste I was trying to determine from the biscuits and gravy, was the most amazing homemade breakfast sausage. I could have just ate a plate full of that it was so good. The meals came with tavern potatoes that were also amazing. To be honest I couldn’t really tell if they were fried or roasted, but they had the perfect crisp on the outside and they were nice and meaty inside, not greasy if they are fried. The subtle spice and bacon really let the potato shine. I need to find out how they make these!!!
I met a few new people and enjoyed the company of a few that I have met at previous events. My friend really enjoyed herself and learning what Unilocal is all about. I am expecting her to become a member soon after this experience with the camaraderie she experienced.

What a beautiful day for a bunch of brunch, courtesy of Tavern in the Village and Unilocal!Great job to both Matt and the Tavern for making so much out of a beautiful fall day! Definitely one of the best YEEs I’ve been to!
The Tavern was so lovely to accommodate our pup while we sat outside on the sunny patio. He got lots of pats on the head, and a nice big bowl of fresh water too. Very kind of the server to think of that! The patio here is right by the street across from some construction, but is decorated and kept so well that you barely notice the construction lot across the way.
Our server was amazing and checked in on us on a regular basis, and our food and coffee came out quickly. Granted, we were one of the first groups there at 10am, so that probably helped. Regardless, the service was seamless and absolutely perfect in every way. Down to splitting our plates for us so we didn’t have to dig around on each other’s plates. Very thoughtful, since we hadn’t even thought to ask for that!
The food? MMMmmm bunches of delicious brunches indeed! We decided to try the Saussice Madame-​Provencal and the Huevos Rancheros. The Saussice Madame was perfect, and we thought the tomato jam did a lovely job of lightening up the heaviness of the mornay sauce, and the house sausage was great as well. What we were most amazed by was the bacon marmalade that the server gave us to try alongside the Saussice Madame… it was such a neat take on bacon, and we loved how the sweetness of the marmalade truly transformed the salty greasiness of typical bacon. The Huevos Rancheros were done well also, and had a perfect amount of black beans, fried egg, salsa, and avocado on each tortilla. I liked that the bacon was on the side, so you could break off pieces of it into your tortilla. Again, a great plate of food. The potatoes on both plates were amazingly crispy, yet not greasy at the same time.
We loved The Roasterie coffee they had here, and appreciated the endless mugs we downed. Such smooth unique taste! We chatted a bit with the manager, and were told that this was a special blend they had picked and roasted themselves at the Roasterie. I love when places do this! It makes a huge difference to have good coffee with brunch.
For dessert, we decided to try the Cinnamon Sugar Donuts. These amazing pieces of fried delciousness were coated in just the right amount of cinnamon sugar, and sitting in a little river of dark chocolate alongside a little dipping bowl of vanilla crème anglaise. Perfect all around, from the soft fluffiness of the dough to the very lightly sweet dark chocolate and crème anglaise.
The Tavern does a good job balancing things. From the perfect amount of service (not too little, not too overly much), perfect pricing on their menus, to the perfect balance of sweet and salty in their food, this place is a winner. I’ve been struggling to find a great brunch place, and this is it! We’ll be back for more!
