Bluewater Artworks Gallery & Framing

Appreciation of art is subjective. Hubby and I both liked this gallery a lot and spent the most time browsing in here. There were a couple tables and mirrors we would have loved to take home with us, but those will have to go in the «someday» pile. There were also some interesting pieces of jewelry and zipper pulls that would appeal to those with vintage taste. Definitely stop by and take a look at Bluewater Artworks.

Bluewater Artworks Gallery and Framing is filled with unique and beautiful artwork. It’s the kind of store that I could easily spend an hour browsing… except that I didn’t really feel welcome in the store.
The first time I went into Bluewater was lovely. A nice young woman greeted my friend and I but then allowed us to browse freely. When we asked a question about the materials used in a particular item she was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The second time I went to Bluewater a different woman greeted us but then continued to ask us questions and follow us around the store. We both felt very uncomfortable and left feeling like the woman had suspected that we were there to shoplift. Having worked in retail myself, I know when someone is trying to use «aggressive customer service» as a theft deterrent. I can’t help but feel that the woman who followed us was suspicious simply because we are both young and were dressed casually (jeans and sweatshirts). I felt very unwelcome, like she didn’t think we had enough class to be there.
I also noticed that the store had many little signs among the displays warning that surveillance was in use. I felt they were very tacky and detracted from the atmosphere of the store. I’d expect those sort of signs in a cheap drug store, not a art gallery. Between the signs and the treatment we received, I got the impression that the owner is paranoid. Maybe the store has had a problem with theft in the past, but even so, I don’t think that warrants following customers around the store and preventing them from browsing.
Despite all that, I’m giving Bluewater 4 stars because the artwork inside is beautiful and at least one of the people working there knows how to give excellent customer service. I’ll give the place another try.

Lots of artists represented here. A lot of art to look at so one can spend a lot of time here and still see new things on another visit. Very friendly and community minded owners and staff. Quality of the art is very good for the most part. A few less than average but even more that is better than very good.

The owners are so friendly. My husband and I stopped in to browse this fairly new gallery, and they were so friendly and informative. The building is a great space showcasing some great local artists. The prices are really reasonable for the quality of artwork. This is a great addition to downtown Poulsbo.
