Loved this place! The food was amazing! Atmosphere kind of tacky, but the staff were so nice and friendly.

So we took a chance on stopping for lunch on Sunday while it was fairly crowded. The servers ignored us for about 15 minutes. Once we ordered it took at least 45 minutes to get food which might not have been that terrible if the servers had stopped by to let us know what was going on. The severs never even glanced our way. The food was ok for some of us and not for others. The bacon was hard as a rock and the scrambled eggs were terrible. The chicken strips were to be expected and the fries decent. The burger was ok. All said, we probably won’t come back.

We got breakfast burrito and French toast sandwich. The burrito was awesome but French toast sandwich was just alright. Good food and good environment.

We’re from the Bay Area & we came here for the first meal of the new year. Service is great!!! Food is very home-styled. My friends and I ordered the Undecided, Breakfast Buritto, French Toast & Omelette :)

My husband and I have eaten here a couple of times for breakfast. Food is diner quality, nothing too fancy, typical coffee shop food. The place is a big open room with pictures of various things, all for sale. Hmmmm. The booths all seem to have torn vinyl, and generally look beyond there lifecycle. Service is ok but don’t expect to feel special. There was the time our waitress decided to take our order and carry on her conversation with the table behind us. I felt like slapping her and say, hello, I’m here, but she was a pretty big gal. Rather rude I felt. It’s definitely a locals place and they don’t seem to care for people that aren’t locals. Well at least that’s the perception I been left with…

This place had average food, but what really sucked was the hour we had to wait to get our food! They where very unorganized, no body new who was in line first and how many. if it wasn’t the only breakfast place in portola I would’ve left.

I was appalled at the prices for sandwiches! $ 9-$ 12 for a sandwich and fries? That’s worse than airport food! I was not impressed with my Philly Cheesesteak. The meat was overcooked to the point where the edges were dry and hard. Definitely nothing really special.

If the food was worth waiting an hour I would have given 3 starts but it wasn’t so they get 2 stars. The inefficiency that this place runs on is absurd. Seriously, it’s eggs, toast and coffee. The only thing this place has going for it is the fact they are the ONLY place open on Sunday in this tiny town. No competition leads to inefficiency, a lack of caring, and higher prices, Sharon’s café is the shining example of this. Just drive on by, don’t stop until you hit reno.

I posted my pic of the club sandwich I had today, pic says it all ! This place also has great breakfast items. Portions are large and they will make you anything you want even if it’s not on the menu. Great service.

First time in Portola, we are here for a wedding and needed some breakfest. We saw the good reviews and it cleary was a hot spot for local people residing here. Everything was excellent great service so glad we came here the sunrise was killer. My husband enjoyed the undecided, he is always leary about trying biscuits and gravy elsewhere(he’s such a food critic) and it passed both of our plates were empty.

This is a great find in the old town of Portola! We stopped in for breakfast on our way back home from a stay at Nakoma. This is diner food at its best. I had the Big Boy which is 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 4 strips of bacon and a decent serving of hashbrowns. Pancakes weren’t too chewy, bacon was flavorful, thick and crispy, hashbrowns were cooked perfectly and they use real eggs even if you get them scrambled.(I’m not a fan of the scrambled eggs that get poured out of a carton) The wife had the Chorizo Scramble which she also said was really good. Food came out fresh and in a reasonable time. For the amount of food you get, the prices were good. I wish they would upgrade to a better coffee but that is the only minor issue we had. It tasted like cheap, diner coffee, so still fitting for the place. The place has cool décor, I was admiring some of the art on the walls. If you’re looking for a great place to eat, come here and come hungry, leave happy!

I love Portola and I love Sharon’s Café!!! I will make the drive from my hometown over to Portola just to have breakfast at Sharon’s! It is comparable to the Red Hut in Carson City Nevada, the portions are generous, the gravy is delicious. I have had lunch here and it was just as good as the breakfast. If you order the Bum be prepared to get a doggy bag(go carton). If I lived in Portola I would be eating here everyday!!! One more thing, be sure to order the Biscuit!!! OMG, never have I had such a wonderful treat! And the Gravy to go with it! Out of this world!!! Can’t wait to go back.

Stopped by here for a late breakfast after a weekend wedding. No waiting, great food, great service. Never had to ask for a refill and our food was hot when served. Highly recommended for breakfast or lunch.

We asked at our hotel where to eat breakfast, and this was the first thing they said. Nice folks, good regular food, not amazing, but cooked to order and quick service, even with a crowded room. hash browns were perfectly crispy. pancakes were nice and fluffy and hot. coffee was meh, but not a problem. We went back the next day while waiting for our train just for some coffee & cinnamon rolls to go, and it was great! Not many choices in Portola, but this is the main breakfast place. locals & visitors all eat here, so that is how it they roll in Portola !

Best patty melt I’ve ever had, so juicy with the perfect amount of cheese. I ordered it with avocado which just added to the taste even more. Good iced coffee too. I went with my parents, my mom ordered the steak sandwich, which she really enjoyed and my dad had the sunrise sandwich, which had eggs and ham and bacon on it and he said it was really good. Every time we’ve come here the food and service has been excellent and I’m so glad Portola has a good place to eat breakfast and lunch!

Try«The Bum» I did it with bacon and sausage and my tastebuds were loving me! Could not conquer the beast but I gave it more than a solid effort. Sharon and the family are sweet hearts and I will be back to see them soon! If you are anywhere near portola and in need of some breakfast, do yourself the favor!

This is a good old-fashioned, fill you up and harden your arteries breakfast spot. Plenty of traditional American breakfast fare with a few ingenious twists(eg top anything with sausage gravy). It’s a small town diner where everyone knows everyone else. So if you feel out of place introduce yourself.

Situated in downtown(old town) Portola, just a hop-skip-and-jump from the much bally-hooed train museum, this little café knows how it’s done. The ladies who run this place don’t skip a beat(or furrow a brow) when confronted with large walk-in groups during busy breakfast and lunch rushes(in fact, big groups seem to be normal). Service is friendly and matter-of-fact. The food is standard heart attack fare, big servings, tasty, and priced fairly. Our group of five had lunch one day and group of four had breakfast the next. Everyone enjoyed all of the artery-clogging deliciousness both days. You won’t find much in the way of doctor approved, healthy options but what they do serve is delightfully«bad» — I had a reuben the first day(no complaints) and the second day I had a layered breakfast dish built on hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy and cheddar cheese(on the side because I didn’t really want/need it). Despite being constantly busy, they kept soda and coffee refills coming. The customers seemed to be mostly locals. They don’t serve booze, beer, or wine. And they’re only open 6am-2pm. If you’re in Portola, this is the place to feed your face.
