We stopped here on way home to Boston. Ordered the Monterey Bacon & Avocado Benedict which was delicious! And this enormous blueberry pancake which was one of the best we ever had. Service was super fast and they give you a carafe of coffee and soda at your table. I wish we had one of these restaurants near where we live. Fabulous breakfast! AAA++

I love breakfast and this place offers tex-mex southwestern style breakfast options. Not super«authentic» — for example their Huevos Rancheros is not really Huevos rancheros, but it’s still tasty and flavorful! I’m all about flavor :) The service is speedy and the workers are so darn friendly. Seriously. Every time I have been there the waitress or manager strikes up a conversation. I don’t go often either, but I should. Love the décor — very warm homey feeling :) I’ve gone during Sunday brunch — place gets packed! But again, the service is very fast. I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes. I give it 4 stars because of the excellent service :)

Egg and I had phenomenal hazelnut coffee. I had a new menu item they made just for me which was a waffle sandwich with 2 eggs over medium with Bacon in between the waffle with real maple syrup on top.

The Egg & I was adjacent to my hotel so I figured I could give it a try. I honestly didn’t expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised! On the first morning, I had the lobster eggs Benedict that was flavorful and filling. The servers were attentive and polite and my meal wasn’t too pricey. I eyed the menu and saw the pecan waffles and decided that I would come back the next day and try them out. Best decision I made. The waffles were so thick and fluffy and the pecan topping was sweet and delicious. I couldn’t finish the whole meal because the portion was hearty, but my stomach was happy. The ambiance is reminiscent of a country IHOP so don’t expect to be wowed by the interior touches, but the food was outstanding. This restaurant is definitely a win when it comes to local eateries!

My fiancé and I were staying at the hotel that connects to the restaurant, so we were encouraged to try out the place. The service was great. We went during prime breakfast time. We were seated right away. We ate in a nice spot even though it was just the two of us. The waitress was very kind, so we tipped her well. I ordered cranberry juice and it was nice and cold. When it came to the meal, I ordered an omelette with spinach, cheese, and bacon. The omelette came with ranch potatoes and two buttered English muffins. The ranch potatoes took up most of the dish, which was a tad overwhelming. Though they were seasoned quite well, I felt the need to add ketchup. The English muffins were lovely, the muffins already soaked with butter; it wasn’t just taken out of the fridge and slapped with a square of butter. The omelette itself was a tad on the small size, but everything was cooked well. The omelette was not cold, which seems to happen a lot at breakfast places. The bacon was chopped up into pieces rather than being cooked in strips, which was just fine. Overall, it was a fulfilling meal despite the small omelette. Will be coming here again. Very convenient for us two staying at the hotel. Lastly, the music didn’t stink. It was a bit hip. Thank god.

Fast friendly and attentive service. Love getting a carafe of coffee to refill as I am ready. Menu was pretty huge. We got our food pretty quickly and it was very good. Obviously eggs were a focus and they didn’t disappoint. Bacon cooked slightly more than I love it. Waffle was delicious. Whole restaurant including ladies room was immaculate. Only complaint I would have is the temperature of the restaurant was too cold. Prices are fair. Would definitely go back.

The restaurant has a kind of cold vibe to it, not quite describable. Service was excellent. I had an omelet with ham and green peppers, it was OK, cooked nicely, but the egg part was almost frothy, it was whipped so much and then cooked. It gave the egg an airy consistency like meringue almost. I did not really like it as it was very devoid of flavor. The wooden slat benches were not comfortable for me, I found myself squirming to relieve my backside complaining, others may be fine. The separate cashier with a pay as you leave struck me as odd too, and being right inside the front door, it’s kinda cold. I would go there again, as there are not many places in the Westbrook area that are not crammed with peeps waiting for breakfast. On a positive note, the English muffin was good, the tea I had was a brand name with two bags handed out. The home fries were of the Sysco type I’d say, they had little flavor and kinda dry.

Good gravy we were pleasantly surprised by the combination of excellent food and hiya hon perky service from the staff, which we got in two successive seatings on a Monday morning. Standard breakfast menu but it came out hot and not greasy and we were all happy beginning, middle, and end. Who cares that it looks like an iHop from a parallel universe?

My wife and I stopped in twice – the first time we walked out because we had sat there for 15 minutes without any service. We went to give it a go, again, when we were up too early on a Sunday. Someone had said this was ‘an IHOP for eggs,” and they’re pretty spot on. The quality of is sub-Denny’s and pretty bland. I had gotten the hash with hollandaise, both of the ‘just add water’ variety and the only flavor came from all salt. There was a dried green herb on top, but it imparted no flavor, so it could have been construction paper.

Went there with friends on a recent trip to Portland. We had fantastic service and fantastic food! Cleo was our waitress and she was so super pleasant and professional… probably one of the best waitresses I’ve had in a long time. The food was all perfect. The coffee was fresh and delicious. Long story short, we enjoyed it so much that we went back the next morning! And we were absolutely delighted that CLEOWASOURWAITRESSAGAIN(and she remembered us!) We all got something different than the previous day and were equally as pleased with the food. I wish there was a location close to us in New Jersey. Better yet, I wish we could transport this place to our town with Cleo included! :) We will definitely be visiting The Egg & I again the next time we are in Portland.

The food is quite good, the Parisian Benedict was great on a toasty croissant. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We sat out on the deck … wonderful in the Maine summertime!

This place is my number 1 breakfast spot. I’m someone who’s all about aesthetics, and I don’t let the lackluster appearance deter me. As stupid as it sounds, I didn’t come here for a long time because of the fast food/diner-esque sign and cheesy name. Eventually I got over it, and I’m so glad I did. I’ll start off by saying that everything I’ve had on this menu is phenomenal. They have a seasonal menu with plenty of lobster specials– including a lobster omelette that’s out of this world. One of my favorite things there is the stuffed french toast– basically a french toast sandwich with eggs, cheese, and sausage on the inside. It’s not on their menu anymore, but every time I go in, I ask for it anyway and they’re always accommodating. The prices are decent and the food is excellent. Can’t really ask for a better combination.

Huge sign that enticed me through it’s colorful and inviting style. As I came in, it was pretty empty, but I was there at about noon time. As I entered, it looked like a regular diner. Right off the freeway, it emitted a cozy family orientated atmosphere that felt like a highway dinner although it was more kept up. I hadn’t realized it before, but they have a couple of The Egg & I around Maine. Found one in Scarborough just the other day! I got the eggs Benedict and it was pretty much what I had expected. It’s not a bad place to try and the atmosphere takes a person to an environment similar to cozy diner seen on television.

The Egg & I is close to my house and has ample parking which are two plusses for breakfast places in the Portland area for me. We don’t live downtown anymore and with a little one we typically don’t have the patience to wait anywhere for a family breakfast out. The Egg & I fills these needs very nicely as it is typically busy but we’ve never waited. Staff is always friendly and prompt, and the food is… good. It’s not great, but passable for a weekday morning when you want to get out of the house early and do stuff but let someone else cook for you before getting on your way. It’s also great for larger groups as they have a side room with bigger tables, where we are usually put when we go out with other families with kids — it’s a great space for them Eggs come as you’d expect them to, the bacon is crisp and salty as it should be, the hollandaise is regrettable, but the waffles are light and crispy, and their kids meals are typical but come as advertised, and with a drink. The skillet dishes seem to be the best value for the dollar, and my wife LOVES the apple pancakes. All in all a solid quick breakfast stop and about a zillion times better than Denny’s, the other breakfast option in my neighborhood.

Quick and friendly service with a Denny’s/diner layout, this place is awesome because of the food. The deluxe breakfast sandwich was excellent, and my daughter’s chocolate chipper pancake was just right. My daughter ate all my potatoes, so they must have been nice as well. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. We’ll definitely be back for breakfast.

We did not have to wait long for a table.(5 mintues) They also had a pot of coffee for you to pour while you wait. Prices were not bad and the service was friendly. There are a lot of options on the menu, but no pumpkin stuff. :-(They did have pumpkin coffee which was tasty. I got the Santa Fe Huevos and my fiancé got Cambridge skillet. I was torn between the ANts Fe and the three crepes. We had to wait a little, but the food came out hot. It was very good and the potatoes were tasty. My fiancé had to ask for additional Hollandaiae sauce.

We were driving back from a wedding in Bar Harbor and this was a good half way point to stop. The restaurant was right off the high way and easily accessible without going through rotaries, traffic, etc. Service was nice and fast. The food was typical diner, breakfast joint establishment. My husband though his lobster roll was just OK and my eggs Benedict was alright. It held us over until we got home. Prices were wallet friendly. I would recommend this place if you are in a hurry but there are lots of other great dining establishments in the area if you are on vacation or want a nicer meal.

After driving for 8(count ‘em 8!) hours from PA, I managed to score an early check-in at the hotel and decided to give this place a try for breakfast. I was seated immediately and Emily, my server, was extremely polite and attentive. My Viva la France(2 slices of French toast, 2 eggs, and either 2 pieces of bacon or sausage) were great although I wasn’t a huge fan of my coffee(I think it was the Brazilian blend? Way too strong for me, even with a ton of creamer). Definitely a cost effective place to grab breakfast with a smile!
