Spring rolls, pineapple fried rice, noodle and and rice stir fries were all ordered, vegetarian-style. Without exception, every meal was very bland. In the Portland world of overly-available Thai food, I don’t understand how Thai Bloom has been successful. Tourist traffic only? Not sure. Two stars because the service was excellent. Food isn’t worth the calories.

Beautiful location at street level. Devoured fried rice with perfectly prepared shrimp. Our table faced the street as we imbibed in Mai tais.

I really wanted to love this place but I was surprised at how bad the food was. The papaya salad was extra fishy(with those small dehydrated shrimp) and the papaya was white/green(which being in Thailand long enough you know that it’s not ready until it starts to show a little color in the yellow spectrum). It was flavorles and just surprisingly flat. Had a beautiful presentation… But I had no desire to eat it and I waited for my favorite dish drunken noodle to come out. I ordered it spicy and had to ask for hot sauce b/c it had little heat. It was overly oily to a degree that made it hard to eat– the noodles were rubbery and it was lacking vegetables and flavor and life. Left me feeling nauseous afterwards so I stopped eating. I wasn’t sure if my server(Donald) forgot me and I ended up having to run around to find him both to order and then my credit card and I sat for 30 minutes while I wrote this post. I hate to be a complainer– but this was exceptionally bad service… Depressing food and an experience I hope to forget.

Solid, solid Thai. We are new to Portland and on the hunt for a Thai place. We ordered Green Curry, which was just slightly hot, perfect for the hubbie and lots of veggies, perfect for me! We hat a special with glass noodles and we were able to easily sub eggplant for meat. Next time, I’ll be back for happy hour as they have a robust happy hour menu with great prices.

Came here on a Sunday evening, very crowded. However, service was good. For an appetizer we had seafood cream cheese wontons with a plum dipping sauce that was terrific. To drink we shared a hot sake, tasted like. like a hot sake! Yum! For our entrees I ordered Thai yellow curry with pork(I’ve never had pork in it, I usually have chicken or tofu). It was very tasty as it should be! My companion ordered pineapple fried rice(which he’s a bit obsessed with). I don’t think it’s all that interesting but he said it was great. This is a good solid tasty go to Thai restaurant. After all, we both ordered our ‘go tos’ and were both satisfied.

I ate here with 4 friends, and we split 4 different meals(family style) including the: Duck Curry(dry), Pad Thai(regular), Pad See ew(boring), and Eggplant Stir Fry(soppy and saturated), and concluded that each meal lacked the significant effect to come back. Dry and flavorless or soppy and savorless. Doused in oil, and without heart. We asked each other while still there what we thought of the food, and we stood around 6 out of 10. It just didn’t appeal to the belly, even after walking a few blocks later. There’s plenty of better options nearby. *service was questionable. Nothing to rave about. Bring your own water unless you wanna wait.

The food is really good. Definitely try the Tom Kha soup. One of the best Tom Kha’s I have ever had. I wish the service was better but the food makes up for it. The server was in a hurry to take our plates away.

Okay so I’ve never actually sat down here, I’ve only ever ordered take out(lived down the street) which has always been a piece of cake. I realllly enjoy their pad thai here(I know, super basic) but its the one place i’ve found that gives it a great flavor and doesn’t burn the noodles so I like to come back here when im in the mood for such. We also ordered the crab fried rice which was too spicy for my taste but he enjoyed it enough to eat it all(but also mentioned he enjoyed mine more). As an app, we got the spring rolls, which were good… but pretty small compared to others we have had so I wish they could do something about that. The drink I ordered(some mango martini type) was pretty good, wasn’t as sweet as I was expected which is good. The downer to this particular experience was that the service was just terrible. She was quick when we got there but went down hill quickly. Never once checked on us when we got our food and after we were through and wanted boxes… she basically avoided us for 20 minutes. She finally came after I flagged her down and also telling her we would like our check just so we didn’t have to wait another 20. But even so, once she dropped it… another server eventually came by and ran it for us… bummer. So I suggest this place for food… not so much for their service. Maybe I’ll stick to take out next time.

How this place maintains such a high rating is beyond me. Don’t get me wrong. It’s fine! But really, it’s just fine. The Crying Tiger appetizer is the best thing we ate all night. I ordered pad thai, extra spicy. I like spice and, despite my white skin, can handle it just fine. Too bad the server or cook disagrees since it was possibly THE most MILD pad thai I’ve ever had in my life. I would’ve asked for some hot sauce, but after dropping the food off, our server was no where to be found. You know it’s bad when you’ve finished your water AND someone else’s due to the ridiculous saltiness of everything and no one has even attempted to fill up waters. TLDR: Thai place catered to white people on 23rd. Bring your own spice or skip to an authentic place.

Second time at Thai bloom, besides the lousy service, the food was exceptional. Ahi Tuna Rolls is a must for an app. Crab fried rice is the best I’ve ever had. Tom Kai is delicious! Also if you’re into it — try the best Thai Iced Tea. Go for the food, and don’t have high expectations of the service.

The food here was so good that it made me forget all about the itchy rash grass created on my butt as soon as I devoured the first bite. The lahd nah was absolutely amazing. The sauce was amazing and mild and the noodles had egg cooked with them which gave them this delightful crispy richness. The pork was tender much like chicken and compliments this dish excellently. The peanut sauce is amazing. I really enjoyed the dishes I picked and the sweet, fragrant jasmine rice that came with it. The customer service here is top notch. They were on top of making sure people were satisfied and had what they need. The environment was so chill, with indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating even had dog water bowls for people on a walk with their furry friend. The purple haired waitress was so friendly and attentive. We got our food pretty quickly and all of it plus the Thai iced tea was amazing. I checked in with Unilocal and got a free coconut ice cream, and major bonus points for having my favorite kind of ice cream. Next time I will do without the drizzle because the cox it ice cream was so good, I want to savor every bite with coconut intensity. They put candle light out there too. The entire experience was awesome, and we even got a little extra rice to go. Top notch, everything. The inside is super nice too, and there was a meeting room in there which flowed my head with ideas. Maybe we will hold a meeting here in the future. Thank you for the excellent service and food, I will so be back and showing it off to friends, associates, and out-of-towners so they can get a most excellent Thai food experience.

Great find in a part of Portland I don’t usually go to. I was at Trader Joe’s and asked the checker fur a recommendation. She was spot on. Great space. Great service. Pretty standard Thai menu and the Calamari appetizer was really good. Also, Thai coffee was grea treat!

Veggie spring rolls: fried greaseless. Veggies can be tasted, but very bland and the sauce is overly sweet and strangely thick. Some faint off flavors from the fryer oil, which was probably getting close to needing a change. 2 stars Ahi larb. Yum! 4.25 stars. Great flavor profile, wonderful spicing, but overwhelms the tuna. Larger chunks might allow the same assertive seasonings while letting the tuna speak also. Good service. Cute bamboo styled water glasses.

Always great service. I can’t say enough about the food and experience provided when coming to Thai Bloom on 23rd. We always get the seasonal curry or Khoi soi and it hits the spot every time The papaya salad and spring rolls are also a standard for us. Go now before I order all the curry. Seriously, stop reading and go get food.now.

Finally! I finally found a great Thai place in Portland. Not just great but honestly this was some of the best I’ve had in years! The food is exceptional. We started with the seafood cream cheese wontons which are one of my absolute favorite Thai apps. These were huge and delicious. I also ordered a side cucumber salad which was only $ 2.99 and a big bowl of fresh cucumber enough for both of us shared.(amazing price for the amount you get). We had the Crab Pad Thai and the chunks of crab were huge and in a perfect amount of quantity. We wandered in here around 11:53 and within 30 minutes the place was packed on a Saturday afternoon. Clearly a favorite among the locals. And the service was impeccable. Lastly, as much as I ALWAYS love me some great mango sticky rice, unfortunately mangos weren’t in season so our server suggested some delicious coconut ice cream with sticky rice. It did not disappoint.(see photo) I’m already looking forward to going back.

This restaurant location has been so many other restaurants I was kind of afraid to go. However, my daughter told me she’d been and it was delicious. She and I went last night. The service was very friendly and quick. I wish the space wasn’t as big as it is. It just doesn’t seem busy enough with so many empty tables. Maybe they should bring in live music or something. We had the vegetarian spring rolls. They were piping hot and delicious. The plum sauce was a perfect addition. My daughter loved her curry and I loved my chicken drunken noodles. All the food came out very very hot, which is my main complaint about most restaurants. I want my food hot! It was and it was all delicious. Can’t wait to eat my leftovers for dinner tonight.

This is some of the best Thai delivery in Portland. My husband ordered the massaman curry And I had the drunken noodles. Both times we have ordered this, it has been amazing! Usually if you ask for extra spicy or extra tomato they usually don’t follow through. Thai bloom exceeded our expectations both times. Plus they deliver pretty late. They deliver all the way up until they close. The only thing wrong this time was we asked for chopsticks and didn’t receive any. However the driver did offer to go back and get some. We said no thank you but it was very nice of him to offer.;) We can’t wait for our next dinner from these guys!

By the time we’d taken the Max from the airport and settled ourselves into our Airbnb we were very ready for food so we took a stroll down NW23rd to see what was good; turns out that was a very difficult question because EVERYTHING looked amazing, and is so highly rated! We checked out a bunch of menus before we made it to Thai Bloom, and when we saw Thai we both went«ooh!» So I guess it was meant to be! We didn’t realize we were there just before closing, and the staff were super accommodating and didn’t rush us at all(although we did eat quickly because we wanted to get out and about!) Our server was super sweet and helpful with the menu, and they had both a regular and Happy Hour menu to choose from. We both got a glass of local wine, which was awesome, and I ended up getting their mussaman curry with chicken. It arrived in a large, wide brimmed bowl, beautifully plated and almost too pretty to eat! Bestie got veggie salad rolls with a ridiculously tasty peanut sauce, which she enjoyed very much! My curry was insanely tasty, rich and creamy with a ton of chicken in it. I ate until I couldn’t move and I still had a bunch to take home — score! It made for some excellent late night snacking. I also had their Tom Yum soup, which was very well balanced in its flavours, and again packed with chicken and mushrooms! The cup size was small, but perfect as an appy to my giant bowl of curry! Such a great spot — I’m a little sad we didn’t make it in twice on our trip but it’s definitely somewhere I’ll be aiming to head next time I’m in Portland. Ooh, and don’t forget to check in — they have a great check in offer!
