This is by far the best place we’ve eaten since we’ve been on vacation… The food was amazing! Even our finicky 8 year old gave them a 10 out of 10! The portions are huge! You could easily split a plate and still get enough! If you are in the Corpus eat here!!!

Frequent this restaurant when I come down to visit the family. Had lunch on Sunday at around 12:30, it had a decent sized crowd. Ordered the fried catfish and 4 shrimp meal comes with soup or salad and baked potatoes or vegetable of the day(but you can pretty much change it out for any of the sides). Big portion of cat fish which was actually very good, nicely fried and lightly breaded. Shrimp were a little on the small size but tasty. You also get comp fresh bread with cinnamon butter, delicious. The bread was a little older tasting the normal but I think a fluke because most of the time it’s very fresh. Loaded baked potato(cheese, bacon & cheese) is $ 1.50 extra. My sister had the blackened tilapia, big portion of fish but a bit too fishy for my taste, she got the green beans which were good, sautéed in an oil & garlic base. My grandma ordered the chicken bellaire and thought it was very good. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Ordered steak med, it had white med pick in it, but was well done. Service mediocre, steak was tough and very thin. Second time bad meal there. Thought maybe they had improved but guess not

The service was awful and the waitress took my plate with half a steak on it. She didn’t ask me if I was done. It took forever to get the check and cash out. The staff seemed to be miserable and it was an unpleasant experience.

Went here tonight for the first time, bar service was good the food was excellent, I had the large ribeye which was cooked to perfection. The rolls and cinnamon butter were fantastic, I could eat them all day everyday. I hope to come back to this restaurant.

I don’t usually write reviews on Unilocal,I do so just in cases in which places I go to were or awesome or terrible. Unfortunately, that was a bad night. The bartender(I think it is destiny) was SO loud, that I couldn’t watch the game I wanted to watch after a long day at work. In fact, she was the WORST bartender I have ever seen, and that is hard, as I have never had issues with bartenders. She was so focused on making noise, and she was so sick for attention, that she forgot she has to serve people: she stood far enough so people had to shout loud what they wanted to order. I had to ask her twice to get close to me so I wouldn’t shout what I needed. She through the dishes in a terrible way, that I thought they were broken. She did every possible action in such a noisy way. She was so loud that I couldn’t watch the game bc of her. Sorry to say this, but even on the personal level she was bad, had zero class and she made stupid comments. From what I understood from people who go there often — that is how she is every night and people don’t like it, but they don;t have another place to go to. The food was’t that good as well. Just terrible. Will never go back. If I were the manager — I would fire her or at least move her to the kitchen, so she cannot bother people who are trying to eat and talk at the bar.

I’m going with five stars because our server was the best! The steak and potato and the blackened chicken were both perfectly cooked. The coconut shrimp was amazing and had a delicious sauce that was sweet and garlic with a hint of heat at the end. Did I mention the tea was delicious as well? And I mean plain tea I didn’t try the Texas sugar water um sweet tea. Lol. We had amazing food, priced appropriately, amazing service and ended up sitting with the the people next to us, our newest friends. I almost forgot the fast service! And don’t let me forget how clean it was!!! Now back to the chicken. The Blackened Chicken was seasoned to perfection. It had a tiny bite from pepper(which I love, pepper is essential to life) and so juicy and tender. I think I talked about that chicken for an hour afterward. And it’s the next day and I had the leftover chicken for breakfast and it’s still wonderful. I think this chicken could make me a chickaterien. My mom thought the baked potato(which she ate plain) was so good that she insists I have mine plain next time and experience the flavor. And her steak was ‘perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful’. I do have one itsy bitty request. Paper coasters. My drink was doing a dance around the table in the condensation pool. Toss a few coasters down or throw me a paper napkin next time and I’d give you six stars(well, if Unilocal would let me.) I really cannot wait to return for more chicken, great service, more new friends and an all over awesome time. PS– Sorry about the photos, I didn’t think about taking them until after we began eating.

Well my neighbor ask me if I would like to come here for dinner. I am a restaurant owner from Austin. We all ordered drinks and appetizer it came in a timely matter. Plus. I had the strip steak mid and shrimp scampi with baked potato and chowder of the day. The steak was pleasantly tasty and extremely tuff. The shrimp were great but this place on the coast needs a leason in scampi. It’s good butter and lemon juice Mr. Cook!!! The baked potato was not well cooked but eatable. The signature item is the roll and cinnamon butter, to die for… Please don’t take it to hard guys, for the prices it was OK! Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Got the order wrong to start with! Thousand Island dressing I salad turned to water on salad. I had to open 8 tubs of butter to put on my bake potato. T-bone was very tough. This place is trying to be an expensive steakhouse with packages of everything.

Came in on a Sunday morning right at 11am. Everything was fresh, quality was great and prices weren’t too bad. I’d much rather pay more to eat here then at chilis or applebees!

Husband and I stopped here on a late Saturday lunch(2pm). We were seated as soon as we walked in and the one waitress took our drink order. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and hubby ordered the southern grilled chicken club sandwich. The waitress brought rolls, which I expected to be warm, but were not. The spread was a cinnamon butter. Food was a little slow coming out, but when it did, we chowed down. I liked the outside breading of the chicken. It was panko, making the breading so light, crunchy, and fluffy. My baked potato was fresh, probably made this morning. Husband really liked his sandwich, and the fries were average. Nothing seemed pre-made like others have stated. Maybe it was time of day, or just what we ordered. Good place overall, seems fairly new. Love the décor. And my husband got to watch his football game on tv. Here on a spur of the moment thing. So not sure we will be back this way, but worth the stop.

I have to agree with Jimmie R. Portland has an issue with restaurants. Very few, and the ones that it does have are chain restaurants with crappy food, unkept eating areas and/or horrid service. The only way one can get any kind of service it seems, is if your date has big boobs. With that being said, the service was ok at this restaurant. Glasses were strangely small and the server was not around enough to quickly refill such a small glass. Food did not taste fresh and was bland at best. But they are proud of their pricing, I will say that. The chairs were uncomfortable and the layout is less than. I was disappointed with the whole experience. The pricing did not equate to better food, service or overall experience.

We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant and had a chicken fried steak with brown gravy, a cup of turkey gravy soup and it was very good. My husband also enjoyed eating his flounder. My dad got the pork ribs and he stated they were very good. I would visit again. We went on a Sunday at about 4 and were worried because the restaurant was looking empty apparently we just beat the rush because it started to fill up soon after we were sat.

Always good food and the service is on point. This place is always on our list of places to eat when we head to the coast.

It was a really nice experience. We got seated right away, and the place seems to be fairly new. We liked the appetizers; we ordered stuffed mushrooms and chips & cheese. All the meals were food, except for the chicken Alfredo. We got our food quick.

$ 92 for our 4 luke-warm steaks that arrived 45 minutes after we ordered them. One of the ribeyes was 20% fat. The T-bone was ¼ inch thick. The waitress was apologetic for what that was worth(not worth $ 92!). She brought the owner over who offered to cook another t-bone and apologized but that was all he could do. We didn’t want to wait around for another 45 minutes for another mediocre and luke-warm slice of beef and won’t be going back. The restaurant was about 50% occupied so I don’t know what other excuse they could have.

We were staying at the Holiday Inn right behind this restaurant and after a long day at the beach didn’t feel like going anywhere. I looked up the online menu and everything sounded amazing! We ordered the seafood stuffed mushrooms, the ultimate burger, chicken Alfredo, and fried shrimp dinner. We were disappointed with everything. –Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms– They were deep fried but not crispy, they were dripping with grease and soggy. The seafood stuffing had no flavor at all. They were in a pool of grease in the to go box. Very unappealing. –Ultimate Burger– The patty was described as a 1⁄3 pound freshly grilled burger… sounds delicious BUT what we got was a precooked patty exactly like the scalloped edge microwave ones from HEB. The bottom bun was so soaked with grease that it was practically liquid. Just not appetizing at all. –Fried Shrimp Dinner– These also seemed pre made and frozen, not freshly breaded as described. The shrimp had a very weird texture. Beyond over cooked, it was so tough, it was hard like a very well done steak. Terrible. I was pretty upset that a $ 24 shrimp dinner from a restaurant literally a mile from the ocean was frozen not fresh. The veggies were not crisp like fresh veggies they were hard undercooked frozen veggies. The loaded baked potato had fake tiny hard bacon bits and the sour cream was a warm squeeze packet(like ketchup) found at the bottom of the to go bag. –Grilled Chicken Alfredo– This too had pre cooked, pre sliced chicken with that frozen quick food texture. It was like the chicken on a Subway sandwich. Alfredo sauce had no flavor and the noodles were dried out. –House Salad– Was all iceburg and 1 piece of wilted green leaf. On top of the food being mostly frozen pre-made stuff this was a to go order and they gave us no utensils or napkins. We didn’t notice until we got back to the room. Luckily the lobby of the hotel had some. We won’t be back to try this place again.

We were very satisfied. Little slow getting our food, but it was fresh hot, good, yummy and delicious! We shared the BBQ combo plate, along with a appetizer of onion rings and cheese sticks. The onion rings were soooo goooood! Crispy and awesome. The homemade ranch was very tasty with my onion rings and cheese sticks. And you can’t forget the cinnamon butter they serve with the rolls(crack butter is what I like to call it) only thing we didn’t like was the fried Okra. But be careful check the expectation date on the sour cream that they serve with bake potatoes, it was expired.

Portland has a serious lack of restaurants. We tend to end up here when we’re visiting the kids in Portland because the only other casual dining choices are Applebee’s and Chili’s. But I really wish there were other options. Service is always just adequate. This last time, our server found it more important to talk to some bikers at the front door rather than check on us, and the hostess kept her head down on the desk anytime she wasn’t forced to interact with customers. But we’ve usually had better service. Food is edible. I almost always order a burger, because they can’t mess that up too much. Nothing’s really bad, but most of it is just mediocre — like Thousand Islands sauce for the Reuben sandwich that tastes like tartar sauce. I’ve tried their steaks — they’re OK but they can’t do medium rare. The thick-cut fries are good. The décor is odd — most of the place has some flea market cow decorations, but then the bar has some old cannons and a metal lobster sculpture. A1 is a 5 minute drive from my son’s and anything better is 20 minutes or more. So I’m sure we’ll be back. I’m giving it 3 stars because I can’t give it 2.5(it’s a perfectly average place). And we’d much rather spend our money locally than at a crappy chain.
