I was in Portland for an internship this summer and wanted to find a spot to go tanning. The ladies that worked at this salon were so, so nice and made me feel right at home. It’s not the fanciest tanning salon but the price is definitely right, I paid $ 25 for 12 tans! While I never had my hair done here, i would return here to tan and recommend it to friends.

This is my second summer coming here for tanning. They have two older beds in the store, which isn’t über-modern nor trashy, just pretty typical salon look. The owner is very nice and the rest of the staff is fast to respond when I walk in. The beds are always clean, it does not get busy, it’s cheap(about $ 3 a tan w/even the smallest package), and they provide goggles. My only complaint is that there is a single fan in the room and without A/C it can feel like your on fire when in the bed at times.

After my hair-stylist mom moved away, I suffered through multiple poor to mediocre haircuts at fancy shmancy places in the Pearl/NW. Finally I got a fabulous haircut in Georgia from a woman about my mom’s age. This time around I peeked into Strandz, and seeing a lack of schmanz and some ladies that could’ve been good friends with mom, I decided to try it out. I was almost driven away by the chemical stench of the nail station, but decided to hang in there. My reward was exactly the haircut that I wanted. Not the place to go if you are looking for«cool» –ness, but a good place to get a solid haircut. These ladies know what they are doing with shears and don’t overcharge for their services. What could be cooler?
