My daughter and I had dinner here tonight… The food was great! The service was even better! Thanks for the great meal. We will be back.

I used to come here a lot as a little kid, now my in laws love the place and we come here pretty often, at least once a month I’d say. The pizza is always great, I’ve never had a problem with my food. I’ve even gotten the wings and I’ve tried the clam chowder, both have always been great. It’s a little spendy, but I think a lot of pizza restaurants are. The only reason I’m docking a star is because it’s so crowded in there. All the tables feel so close together, so especially if you go on the weekend it just feels loud and overpacked. Other than that it’s great food.

Being a lifelong pizza aficionado, I know good pizza when i taste it and this isn’t good pizza; THISISGREATPIZZA! The atmosphere is 1960’s meets junkyard(don’t worry the place is clean) and is not at all pretentious. That said, everything served here is excellent and my wife and i will never hesitate to drive here from West Linn for the best pizza in town. If you don’t know about this place yet, go check it out ASAP.

I just can’t find anything negative about this place. Great thin-crust, cripy just right. Friendly staff who greet you and treat you like they are really glad you’re there. Fresh ingredients, lots of seating, no pretensions about being some kind of nouveau cuisine. Just good pizza the way it used to be made and every bit as good as anything I’ve found in Italy. And an absolutely fun and fascinating décor. And no TV! That’s a big plus!

Good pizza, terrible customer service. It’s too bad because I live close so would have liked to be able to go there again.

Old school pizza joint still represents. Thin crust pizza prepared perfectly in a proper oven(no rollers thank you). This place is not a high end foodie pizza like other places in town, just a simple, great pie. Canned mushrooms or fresh?

I’ve lived in Portland for ten years and FINALLY got to try this place today. I was excited to go, as I’ve driven past it hundreds of times and seen the big, welcoming sign. Just let me say– it did NOT disappoint! The ambiance is great. It reminded me of having a big birthday party as a kid. Big, comfy tables, dimly lit, lots of laughter and a real community feel. The décor is kind of quirky and neat. The staff was very friendly and the food was phenomenal! I had the«small» salad bar and a gluten free pizza with the«Washington Street Combination» toppings. Even for an old style pizzeria, their gluten free crush was among the best I’ve had anywhere in the county. The salad bar had tons of choices and the«small» size was plenty, even though you only get to go through once. The pizza is a tad pricey compared to the«fast food» pizza places, but they’re using high quality ingredients. I will definitely be back SOON!

Ordered a large taco pizza and a large pepperoni with extra cheese and 4 hours later the group I was with was sick and stomach cramps. I feel like I may have had food poisoning!

What happened? Been coming here since the 80s and have to say this pizza has declined severely! It tastes like Tostino pizza from the freezer section! Saltine cracker crust and tomato paste for sauce! $ 50 for 2 medium pizza and a pitcher of beer. Darn. Used to be a favorite/special occasion pizza. Won’t be back anytime soon!

This review is from a VERYLOYAL customer that is also NOT a happy camper… I called our order in, arrived to pick it up and noticed they were quite busy. I paid for my order and was told it wasn’t ready, so, I waited, 10 minutes. I was #19, #24 got called WAY before I did. Come to find out, my pizza had been on top of the oven THEWHOLEDAMNTIME. 10 minutes wasted because of NO communication between employees. I was further blown away to see the manager casually grab my order, call the number and look shocked to see my scathing face. Again, I get you’re busy, but COMMUNICATION really needs to be worked on here. Will I come back, probably. Will I drive the extra 15 minutes for Bellagios, OHYES. Sadly, sadly, SADLY disappointed in this visit.

Been our favorite place for years, tell our last 2 visits. We drive all way across town to have BURNT pizza. Took back up said this burnt, they said what do you want me to do. For the price I said I want a new one we are hungry. Today, pizza was fine, but ordered a 7 $ pitcher of soda. It was flat. After waiting 10 mins for someone to ask what I needed I explained it was flat can I have something else, I chose coke. ITWASFLATALSO. MEANSTHECO2ISOUT! Went up again told another worker, he said well we are busy and it will be awhile. WENEVERDIDGETOURSODA, ORMONEYBACK… NOTEVEN A APOLOGY. This will be the last night we drive 30 mins to burnt pizza and the worst customer service, sad I grew up going there my dad even worked there as a kid. I now take my children there, tell today we will never go back.

Food of my Youth, Chapter 37. The dark environment and man-killing, thousand pound community benches cause a star to fade away. Not to mention the bear. Makes it a bit difficult to navigate. I’m absolutely certain that my difficulty has nothing to do with the fact that I’m older than dirt. Nope. I think the pizza is pretty good in the old school way. It’s a thin, cornmeal crust that comes out pretty crisp. The tomato sauce is effective yet unobtrusive, the cheese is adequate and not too greasy. The meats are lean and not too greasy and the veggies look pretty darn fresh and taste fine to me. This is how every pizza in my little world was when I was young. I think the crust is a little off-putting to some. They seem to find it too dry. As for me, I’m all about the ‘cracker crust’ or whatever it’s called. If you’ve read this far you’ve been warned. They have what I think is a pretty decent salad bar. It all looked good and tasted fine to me. Aside from specialty places, it seems like pizza joints are the only place you can find salad bars any more. It’s not cheap. Nothing is any more and IMO, there’s nothing more god-awful than cheap pizza. There’s enough games, kitsch on the walls and whatnot to keep the young ones occupied for awhile. Mind the bear and you’ll be fine.

You notice almost all the bad reviews are by from-aways? Pietro’s(I miss Pietro’s) and Shakey’s had a baby. It has cheap beer, a non-gross salad bar, the keno, and good pizza. Is it New York Style? Don’t care, NYC doesn’t even have a singular pizza style. The food’s good, the service is laid-back and doesn’t care about unimportant crap, they make good pie, and they know how to steer around food allergies. This is Portland. We don’t care how you do it in New York, and if you want it New Haven-style(i.e. real East Coast pizza) go to Apizza Scholls. Otherwise, a plane ticket to JFK and a cab to Patsy’s, L&B, or Grimaldi’s will be a better investment. You wanna have a good time and leave with a smile and a full belly for a reasonable price, come here.

I loved this place so much until my experience today. I gave this place a 5 star rating years ago. Over the past 15 years my family has come to this establishment numerous times spending thousands of dollars. This was a place that I was more than excited to have additional family come in from all over the state to celebrate my daughters first birthday. After putting in a reservation last Tuesday with a name and phone number for 20 guests everything was set! When we showed up this afternoon we noticed a sign on the door stating that the power was out so the establishment was closed. With all of our family arriving we had to end up driving up last second to Vancouver to a local family members house. I understand completely that power loss is beyond the establishments control but my problem happened when I called to ask why no one bothered to call us to let us know that the establishment was not going to be open since we had TWENTY people showing up from hours away and we gave the business our phone number and name to hold the reservation. The manager that I talked to just kept saying we are sorry the power loss was beyond our control. My problem was never about the power loss which I explained. My problem was that no one bothered to let us know. The manager then told me there was no reservation for me, and then he kept acting as if I was making the accusation up. The final straw was when the manager hung up on me. You should never treat your customers like this, especially as a manager. Well losing my business in the future may not hurt your business at all, but maybe others that are thinking about reserving a party will think twice.

We have been going to Stark Street pizza for years. There is no comparison to the taste. Except maybe Pietro’s Pizza… yummy! I love the décor, vintage toys and signs. great for families or parties. I have had several birthday parties here for my kids as well as a baby shower. Anyone who doesn’t love this pizza is totally missing out and I have to question your mental state.

I grew up in Portland and can’t remember ever eating here although I’ve driven by it hundreds of times over the years. What a shame. I will definitely be making up for lost time. I LOVE the crust. Thin and crunchy. The cornmeal dusting on the bottom adds subtle texture. I’m not a fan of thick crust pizza. I don’t like a big wad of dough in my mouth. This pizza lets the toppings be the star and there are no uneaten crusts anywhere. I checked. Everyone eats the whole pizza. The service is friendly, accomodating and quick. There is a player piano and pinball machine that I happily spent many quarters on playing. They are celebrating their 50th anniversary this month — that pretty much says it all.

You remember Shakey’s Pizza? I swear the Shakey’s people and Stark Street are in cahoots with each other. I loved Shakey’s growing up and love Stark Street now that I’m older. What sets them apart from other pizza shops is their crust. Thin, with a yellow cornmeal dusting. It’s delicious! Pro-tip: the luncheon special is a great deal and is available all day, not just during lunch.

Nothing modern about this place except the beer selection. And that — the commitment to old-school — is why it is AWESOME. I hadn’t been to Stark Street Pizza in probably 10 years, until last weekend. Oh it’s sounded good for a long time, but I’ve lived out in the western suburbs for quite a while now and we just don’t get out Gateway direction very often. It was exactly as I remembered. Dark, with red walls and kitschy décor. The pizza is the old style crunchy crust with the little pepperonis that curl up into little cups. The sauce is perfect, not spicy, and the cheese is perfect. The entire thing is just perfect. It’s just like every pizza place was back in the day, before pizza became divided into either the artisan/brick oven camp or the national bland delivery chains. Back when each town had ONE pizza place, the kind of place that sponsored the little league teams and you’d have your 8th birthday there and they’d have a balloon tied to a stick for every kid and you’d play table arcade games and Mom would have an iceburg lettuce salad on a frosted plate. And they call your number at the microphone when it’s ready and you go grab it and someone else, younger sibling maybe, grabs a stack of plates. Those kind of places. This is exactly what Stark Street inspires, those memories. It’s perfect. Except now my fiancé’s a little mad at me, because in all of the years we’ve been together I’ve never insisted on driving across town for pizza. And he LOVED it. So apparently, we’ll be doing this more often now… which is just fine by me.

I would have given this place 0 stars if i could.. worst pizza ever! Hard crust. very toddler unfriendly. Almost choked my 2yo. Dirty gross place. The chairs looked like they had dirt build up from the 80’s. The bathrooms were very filthy. garbage all over the soap dispenser didnt work which means nobody can wash there hands and touching everything in the resturant with poopy fingers. Also the games for kids ate my sons quarters and didnt let him play. The line was super long with only one person taking orders MYWHOLEFAMILYGOTSICKAFTERBEINGTHERE! HIGHTEMPS
