Shari’s Restaurant

Timing is everything at this place. The day and hours in which you go to this Sharis will determine whether you leave with a full and happy tummy or leave with regret.
Usually I come to eat at this particular Sharis 4 times a month, generally on the weekends and at 2pm, I’ve never had any problems then. The food is usually tasty and the waitresses I have had were always very cheery and kind – they had great customer service skills.
The Waitress: JODIE
However, last night was my first time ever going on a Wednesday and around 6pm, there were waitresses I had never seen before, one which waited on me and my family named JODIE. I have never in my life experienced the type of discomfort and eagerness to leave a restaurant because of a waitress, until yesterday. She was very rude and passive aggressive the entire time, came to check if we needed anything maybe twice and then «forgot» what we had asked for. She also came to our table with an attitude and didn’t stay long enough to let us finish asking for things, she would also cut us off in mid order. It was all just so awkward, my entire family and I felt so uncomfortable that we just wanted to leave.
The Food:
Horrible. I wish I had taken a picture of it, it was awful. The french toast was burned, the Spring Spinach Omelette was a mess. The Cedar Plank Salmon had vegetables that were burnt and the rice pilaf had no flavor – it didn’t even have the nuts.
The Manager:
She’s the grey haired portly woman, she too was rude… How is she even a manager? She got upset because we wanted to send the vegetables back and then proceeded to talk bad about us to the waitresses like we weren’t there.
I get it, it’s free pie Wednesday – the place is packed but that doesn’t mean you get to throw your customer service skills out the door and serve us food that hasn’t even been prepared right.

Ugh. I tried it 4 times and every meal was served lukewarm. The wait staff is okay. If you want mediocrity, this is the place!

Worst Sharis ever! I’ve been here three times and the last two when I got my food it wasn’t right and the night time assistant manager I am assuming had major attitude and then proceeded to talk rude about me to her employees! I called her out on it because another customer also mentioned she was very rude and the attitude wasn’t needed. I will never come back here at night time to say the very least. This happened on Nov 17 2015 @ 8:00pm.

I went to high school in Lebanon, Oregon where Shari’s became the staple for weekends and night time get togethers. The parking lot became its own place to meet up which says a lot about our options back then. I’ve been to this Shari’s over 70 times within the few years I’ve lived in SE Portland. It’s not the best quality of food, but you get a good amount of grub for a more than fair price. My go to meal of late has been the southern chicken strip dinner. Comes with two sides & I get a double order of the loaded mashed potatoes loaded with bacon, cheese and green onions. You also get a choice of soup or salad & the entire meal is under $ 11. That’s a win win in my book, especially when you get off of work at 11pm and want something tasty.

Seriously this is a food establishment… Manager should be held accountable for the lack of cleanliness. Look up once in awhile. Thick layers of dust above tables on the fans, ledges, signage. Just gross. Dare I ask how clean the kitchen is.

This place is horrible! It doesn’t even deserve 2 star, my dad and I had came here. We had to seat ourselves and the server was extremely rude and didn’t even try to care about waiting on us or getting our order right. The staff was very loudly joking around in the back not doing there jobs. We finally got our food and it was the wrong order, so we flag down the waitress and she is super snobby and gives us attitude, when my dad trys to talk to her she completely interrupted him and walked away… So we came home and my dad had sent a email to corporate and still have yet to get a response this was 2 weeks ago. We will NEVER come here again. I put this on facebook also for everybody to see how rude these people are. Ohh and the food was cold.

This is maybe my 3^rd time at a Shari’s. A difficult discussion between friends/​ex-​roommates was being facilitaed by a mutual friend who chose a location equal-​distance from us all and with comfort on the menu This place fit the bill.
It’s Shari’s — so it’s kind of crap. But it’s pretyy good crap. My friend had eggs benedict — which she has oredered there before and loves it. My other firend had fajitas I believe, and when she oredered them was told they came with a possible side of french toast or pancakes. WTF? Talk about a non-​judgemental place that lets you eat all the crap you want and even encourages it. I love that.
The waiters and staff were lovely and kind. They laughed at my jokes and easily split our check 3 ways for us. The coffee was good. My corned beef hash was decent. Not great, but I told them I wanted my potatos and hash extra crispy, and extra crispy it was.
could do without the calories listed on the menu, but other than that, thumbs up!

Worst customer service ever! 30 minutes before we were seated. After 15 minutes I had to go ask for coffee. Chicken wings extremely undercooked. Could not get service and less I went and found a waitress! We have been here for an hour and 15 minutes still have not received the remade the chicken wings.

If your in a hurry don’t stop here. Waited to be seated 10 min. by the noisy dish station. Waited for waitress to take order 10 min. Waited for food 25 min. Waited another 10 to pay the bill as the waitress chatted with an old timer.

Had burger. besides lousy swrvice the waiter was nice. Onions were great, so was strawberry milkshake.

I’m really disappointed by the service here. As I look @ the reviews here, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Terrible service & poor staff attitudes. We were completely ignored by all staff & it took way to long to ask us about our drinks. We were ready to order by then so we did, giving them a chance. It took over 45 mins & our food was subpar. I’ve worked in the food industry before so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I asked the manager if they were understaffed or something & she actually admitted that they were fully staffed & we should have gotten better service. She said she will talk to the staff later in the evening to see what’s going on. REALLY??? My mom was si upset that she didn’t even want to eat anything. Her steak was hard, rubbery & dry, NOT medium rare. The manager acted as if she didn’t know what to do. They just need to revamp their staff and get people in there that actually care about their customers. We will NEVER go back!!!

This Is ridiculous service… First I get here and it takes them 15 minutes to seat me (they didn’t even acknowledge the fact that we were waiting no hello no I’ll be right with you nothing) and it wasn’t even busy… Than i finally get seated and again, it took them over 20 minutes to take my order, and she only had two other tables to attend to… So i have been here for almost and hour and I still have not received my food…

Shari’s is convenient because it’s open all hours. That is likely the only reason I have frequented this restaurant so much. Saying that their service is slow is not based on one unsavory experience, rather it is simply a statement of the pace here at Sharis. The servers here are very nice and friendly, but when they say they’ll get something «right away» in reality it means they will take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to actually reach your table (even if it’s just some ketchup, an extra tea bag, or more syrup). Some of the servers are more forgetful than others, though most have been very attentive, even if at the stated «Shari’s Speed» I mentioned.
The food is exactly what you’d expect. The photo on the menu is glamorized and when your plate arrives in front of you, you’re not disappointed because you knew that what you order will look nothing even close to how the menu depicts it. But hey, it’s open 24 hours. So why not?

Don’t bother and come. I came here a lot ordered a lot to go due to the fact that I am 8 months pregnant and always hungry and it’s the closest to my house. If you come here you’ll probably sit 20 – 30 mins waiting for a table (happened more then 5 times for me) plus by the time someone remembers to come take your order, plus the wait for the food. I’m telling you you’ll not be hungry by then anymore :) to go if your ordering. They tell you it’ll be ready 15 – 20 mins. Come in 30 it won’t be ready by then either. I think they start doing it when you get there. I came here a lot and barley ever do I receive good service.

It’s never fun giving a poor review. And realize that I used to be a restaurantour, I owned and operated 5 different kinds of restaurants over a 25 year period. So I can’t help but have higher expectations than most.
I’m giving it two stars only because it was clean. I ordered the roast and it should have been called the slop. It was served in a bowl plate and potatoes and roast and corn were all sloppedt together. So OK I gave it a try and I won’t give it a try again. The roast was overcooked and over seasoned the potatoes had mush there was no texture and the meal was completely unsatisfactory. the waitress was under trained, and although she was friendly I had to ask for my role and I was not attended to in a timely manner.
I can’t resist but ask who eats at this place? It’s awful, I’m assuming that it’s seniors and they deserve much better than this. Do not go here. It will send a message to management that something needs to change.

I don’t understand why this restaurant location is still open?!?
Attempted to go here for breakfast. It wasn’t busy but there were a few people dining. We stood around for 5 mins, no greet, nothing. Okay… so we sat down with menus… no greet nothing. 10 mins pass… nothing. was there something wrong with us? Are we just ghosts? For a sec i thought i was in a dream.
The 2 waitress and a guy who looks to be the person (in charge???) obviously made eye contact but made no acknowledgement. I was so disgusted by these people working in an industry that requires some service i had to leave and went down the street to Lily market to grab some food there instead. Awsome service there always.
This Sharis wins worse service in Portland. Unless you want horrible service go here, but don’t waiste your time.

Unprepared for the holiday.
Our small party of three arrived at 5:25 pm on Thanksgiving and were told it would be a 20 to 25 minute wait. It was closer to 20 minutes. We were then shown to a table, sat and waited, and talked and waited, and talked and waited… We were ignored.
Nearly 25 minutes later my date finally got the waitress’s attention so that we could order drinks and our food.
Yes it was busy but this lack of attention was completely inexcusable.
In fact while we were waiting to be given attention we watched as another couple in the room got frustrated if the same problem got up and left.
We ordered a couple of beers and the Thanksgiving dinners. Several minutes later our waitress informed us that they in fact did not have any cold beers of what we had ordered and we had to make another selection. Then when she brought us our bottled beers she apologised because the classes were not chilled.
Again unprepared.
Our dinners arrived in a reasonable amount of time however the meals could easily have been 20 degrees warmer because they were just above room temperature.
The turkey was great I really enjoyed the stuffing season nicely with sage. The cranberry relish was very good. The vegetables were excellent and I finish them before I was even halfway through eating anything else. I felt the mashed potatoes were a bit too much on the creamy side, perhaps too much dairy products in them or something like that. The gravy was acceptable.
Once we had our meals the waitress was suddenly far more attentive and at one point I actually thank her for working that evening so that we could have Thanksgiving dinner.
By the time we had finished our meals there were many empty tables.
We tipped very well, not because of the service, but because they had all been working on a holiday evening.
Next year we will find another place to have Thanksgiving dinner.

Surprisingly good service and decent food. Very Freindly also.

So the food was as expected. But the service was a little scary this night, I went really late after midnight. The staff in general seemed unhappy. One. waitress was openly bad mouthing customers and cooks… Her supervisor seemed to allow it and the mean was making the other waitress obviously uncomfortable. The night staff needs some serious professional and customer service training. When I come to a business, I don’t want to made aware of you interpersonal issues.

Very bad service. The waitress didnt take our drink orders, and we have now been sitting here for an hour and havent received our food. When/​if we ever do get our food, the four of us will need to share 2 sets of silverware. I would avoid this place if possible
