NO PARKING! The food is pretty mediocre. I remember it being better a few years ago. Pot stickers are bland. You have to find street parking, which is not easy. You’re better going somewhere else with a parking lot as the food isn’t worth the parking inconvenience.

Consistently awesome service. I usually get the sesame beef or the sweet and sour chicken for lunch. If I am with others I definitely order the pot stickers! They are so good and soooo big! I have ordered many other things from the menu and I have not been disappointed yet. To go orders are quick and the bags are well stocked with utensils and napkins. If you can you should really dine in. The service is great and they make you fresh green tea.

My mom loved dining here, and she’s one tough cookie to please when it comes to Chinese food… and of course IT WAS MOTHER’S DAY! Taking her to a place like Panda Express is a one-​way ticket to being eternally disavowed by my ancestors.
The waiters must have watched that Mother Lovers Saturday Night Live music video, because my mom was extremely pleased with their service (minus the weird sex stuff). Hot and sour soup (made from scratch) was brought to us promptly, along with a beautiful kettle filled with a mix of jasmine & green tea. The server gave us an entire pitcher of water (which is preferred since we were a party of 5), and extra napkins were given without us prompting for them. It probably helps that we were the only customers there, but it could’ve gone the other way.
Our lunch menu entrees consisted of the Sichuan Dry Fried Prawns, Snow Peas + Prawns, Mongolian Beef, and the Tan Tan Noodles. We were big fans of the house-​made noodles. I’m also partial to the Fried Prawns myself. It’s hard to deep fry prawns and add sauce without the fried dough tasting soggy. The cooks executed it very well. Plus, the dishes were reasonably priced for the quality.
I think we avoided all of the common parking and service issues by being the first customers in the door when they opened at 11am. So take that as you will.
CONS: Aside from difficult parking (hint: don’t park on any of the lots), Shandong’s fortune cookies are redonkulously wordy. Much like my reviews.

I hadn’t been here in many months because my last experience was so disappointing quality/​flavor wise, but Shandong put the final nail in their coffin tonight for me. I will never eat here again. Instead of the vegan potstickers, I was served pig potstickers and didn’t realize it until I had already taken and swallowed a bite. I have been an ethical vegan for over 10 years and I don’t think that people who don’t hold similar beliefs realize how psychologically traumatizing it is to accidentally ingest an animal. Our server tried to make it right by apologizing and comping most of our meal, but I don’t think I could ever stomach going back. I came home and brushed my teeth and showered and I still feel like crying. For all kinds of reasons, servers need to make certain they are serving the correct food to their customers. For me, it was the first time I’ve bitten into and swallowed animal flesh in 13+ years. So that sucked in a huge way for me emotionally.

The noodle dishes here are okay, I love the sauces and dish… but the noodles are not outstanding. I wish I could combine the noodles from Franks Noodle House with Shandong’s toppings.

Decent faux Chinese food. It’s always crowded. The few times I’ve visited, the hostess has been frazzled and sort of rude. Just an immediate turnoff. Shandong must be Chinese for «rude hostess.» The pot stickers are tasty, and all of the dishes I’ve tried have been adequate. I wouldn’t go out of my way to dine here, but if you’re nearby it’s worth it if you have a hankering for Chinese.

My nose literally led me to this place. What’s that smell? Oh. It’s Shandong. I have been to China and I have had authentic Chinese food. Had is putting it mildly, devoured is more like it.
Yummy! You like Chinese? You cannot find good Chinese in Portland? Everything is bland or filled with MSG. Not here. Oh no. Home made noodles and smells that will knock your socks off and leave you craving more and more. The food here is so delicious we were full and it was as if we could have ordered again. It was as if we hadn’t eaten at all. I was actually sad the meal was over when we had consumed it. It was like the Boys !! Men song, It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye instantly started playing in my head. Serious food attachments.
If you like Chinese and you want it with an old movie order it to go, swing by and pick it up on your way home. The seating is quaint and the ambiance warm. Not too loud but pretty crowded so it is wise to plan on a wait or calling ahead. This is also a great spot to have dinner before a movie at the Hollywood Theater. Not your average Chinese and healthy too.

I’m surprised I haven’t thrown a review at this place. I’ve been here about a dozen times and almost each time, I’ve enjoyed the food there. It’s consistently good and the service is always on top of it. I know people gripe about the service but I think they must have a revolving hiring door because i never seen the same wait staff twice. I’ve never had the issue with the service, it’s usually quick, responsive and friendly. The restaurant is clean and in decorated modern style.
The food, I always go for lunch. They have a list of 3 or 4 items per protein and noodles at a very reasonable price, $ 7 – 8 (noodles a few bucks more). They first drop off a cast iron kettle of jasmine green tea and hot & sour soup, free! Yes, free. The soup is one of my favorite, lots of tartness and spiciness of black pepper with small tender bites of tofu.
The two items I consistently order is the dry spiced chicken which is a breaded and fried with a sweet spicy sauce. The other dish I really like is the Sichuan pork which is small julienne pieces of pork in a garlic wine sauce with fresh shittake mushrooms and water chestnuts. Both dishes are great but sometimes the chicken takes on too much breading. You can order brown rice for 50 cents more which is a great option. I think for the price, the food and the service all are decent. This isn’t your mind-​blowing Chinese but your consistently good Chinese which is a plus.
I’ve tried some other dishes (cherry pork, Mongolian beef) but these two are so good I rarely veer off. If you’re not certain about this place, give it a try for lunch.

I was surprised to see I had no written a review for Shandong before now! This is my absolute favorite place in Portland to get Chinese food! This place is a bit different from your typical Chinese joint. Their cuisine is inspired by that of the Northern China Region.
If you are in need of a place that is vegetarian friendly, this place is an extra treat! They are able to make almost anything on the menu vegetarian by substituting tofu or soy curls. They have many offerings for those who prefer meat, poultry, or fish to eat. Don’t forget to take a peek at their specialty cocktail menu. In addition to having a full bar they provide beer, hard cider, and wine.
The staff has always provided me with top-​notch service and I’ve always been astonished at how incredibly fast the food comes out of the kitchen. I also never feel rushed to leave by the waitstaff.
So far I have not been disappointed in any of my food or beverage selections at this establishment. Shandong also has a daily happy hour from 4 PM-​6 PM with many tasty appetizers sold at a reduced rate. I do have to say that the prices here are very reasonable. I’m often surprised at how small my tab is compared to haw much food I order. This is fantastic for getting to enjoy Shandong leftovers for a couple days after your visit.
This place can get pretty busy depending on the time and day so I recommend packing your patience along if you attempt to hit this place up during prime dinner time on the weekends. If you live close by I would suggest calling in a take-​out order. I have observed many people doing this with success.

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in Portland. They have a great vegan selection and I always leave full. We start off with the vegan potstickers which taste even better with the soy sauce, hot chili oil, vinegar sauce. Oh and you make your sauce yourself with the bottles they have provided on the table. The ratio is 3:2:1.
As entrees we get the Mongolian soy curls (not on their printed menu but they DO have it) and Judy’s noodles. We’d get more food but that’s enough for two people and a baby.
The service is great. They don’t have parking. But whatever. You win some, you lose some.
This is definitely my vegan go-​to for Chinese food.

This review is for lunch, which was much easier to work around than dinner, when it can be craaaaazy. Parking is still crap, but that will always be the trade off.
A bit of a different menu than dinner, but with most of the options you’re looking for. Quality versions of your Chinese favorites that don’t feel so heavy. The shrimp dumplings were fantastic, really friendly waitstaff.

Food was meh, nothing I would go back for.
Got the shandong shrimp and it was ok. A little spicy and not very tasty.
The soup dumplings were ok but nothing as good as Din Tai Fung.
The bok choy was too salty and not satisfying at all.
Luckily our waiter, Skyler, was very nice and polite.
3 stars for the service, but food isn’t worth going for.

Full disclosure: I’m not a huge fan of (American-​Chinese) food. But I was super impressed with Shandong! Now I love noodles (who doesn’t!?) but mostly rice noodles. On rare occasion I am looking for a tasty, fresh, homemade, non-​rice, asian-​style noodle, which I completely found at Shandong.
I’ve also been to Frank’s Noodle House 2x, and this is superior to Frank’s. And you’ll get a seat quicker and have better prices at Shandong. Absolutely go here for your noodle cravings, and see what else they have to offer.
FOOD
Not too sweet, salty, or greasy.
–Noodles are RIDICULOUS; they are super tasty and clearly fresh-​made, hand-​pulled. I’d recommend anything with the noodles — either sauteed or in a soup.
–Potstickers were out of this world; again, clearly made fresh and from scratch. I could feel the grit and flavor of the fresh ginger and shallots in my mouth (in a good way).
DRINK
There’s a full bar apart from the kitchen.
SERVICE
A little strange. There were many people working (too many for apparent demand) but they were all frantic and not on top of things. But I only came for a pickup order so can’t really say until next time.
Maybe it’s the Northern China cuisine that did it for me. I don’t know, but this place is great. It is delicious, satisfying, and unassuming (in location, décor, interior). I will absolutely return on a Chinese food outing with visitors, or the next time I have a potsticker or (wheat) noodle craving.

Another place I take for granted!
I remember when Shandong opened — the first couple months were rough as far as service, etc. I went back recently and said «Gah! why don’t we come here more often»! Why? Noodles, people. Well and the vegan potstickers.
Handmade noodles, generous portions, more vegan items, fast and friendly.

I’ve never been more disappointed. I had high hopes
because a lot of my friends and acquaintances really like it.
I have to admit, I am a little spoiled by great Chinese food,
as I spent lots of time in SF and Torrence Ca.
I ordered take out and my travel time is 5 Mins away.

that, but when you taste truly great Chinese food you’ll

Let me start off by saying that their customer service is A 1! I can always appreciate when employees love their job and represent the company well.
With that being said, the food was just alright. We ordered multiple things from the menu and my favorite was my boyfriend’s snow peas and chicken. It was really fresh and I wish I would’ve ordered it myself.
The pot stickers were hand made and the taste was good, but they were huge and with the first bite they sort of fell apart.
The spring rolls lacked flavor and I wouldn’t order them again.
And the wings were just okay…
My glass bottled root beer was so refreshing though.
I wouldn’t rush coming back, but whenever we do I’ll definitely order a entrée and no appetizers.
