Roseway Theater

I’ve seen two movies here, and I love this neighborhood theater. They play first run movies at a lower price, but you’re still getting great quality. Seats are comfy with a good deal of leg room, Sound quality is top notch.
I love the «old school» feel of this theater and if you haven’t given this place a try, put it on your list. Parking can be iffy, but neighborhood parking isn’t a far walk. I’d highly recommend seeing a movie here.

The Theater is nice, vintage with updated seats and speakers (could use some Larger Subs for some Deeper Rumble). The place was clean and well kept.
But no real butter!

What a great little theater! I used to come here a lot as a kid since this theater is about 7 blocks from my parents’ house, but I hadn’t been in a number of years. They’ve since renovated the theater and it’s really a great place! They only show one movie at a time, but that probably works out well for a small theater and they tend to show the most popular film at the time, so that’s also great. We went with my folks to see the newest Star Wars film, which they showed in 3D. That was a really cool extra touch! The popcorn was delicious and the theater was very clean. The seats are really comfortable and rock like recliners. The tickets seemed to be a fair price and the employees were nice.

They’ve got one thing to do: show a movie. One movie — this ain’t no metroplex, friends. There is one screen only. They do it pretty good. We went to a weekend matinée, waited in a short line with about 6 other people, got some reasonably priced popcorn and milk duds, then found good seats in the large auditorium.
It’s a bit retro, but not in a mildewy way. There is no funk, just good popcorn smell. There are some nice features like wide aisles and comfy seats with this great thing — you can raise the arm rest and there is a seat extension between you and the next guy so you can set your popcorn or coat or whatever there without it falling on the floor.
My only caution is to not dawdle after the movie if you have to go potty. It’s downstairs and it’s a two seater (in the ladies). Either don’t tank up, or be ready to sprint there and be first in the door when the credits roll.
P. S. There is a really good liquor store right next to the theater. Don’t judge me.

We 2 seniors were rudely treated today. Their site and phone message both gave wrong info. We arrived, they argued and made excuses, and refused to hear our side. What happened to customer service? All they had to do was offer us the advertised price and welcome us to enjoy and return. Instead they left us angry.

I love this theater. I have seen many films here over the years, and it never disappoints. The staff is amazing, the seating is really comfy, the place is really clean, and they have reasonably priced concessions!!! Score!

A really nice place to enjoy a movie without the throngs of lines and people that you’ll experience at the larger megaplex theaters. Newer seats and sound system. BUT… I’ve been going to the Roseway for 15 years or more. The prior owners sold it a number of years ago and I miss the engaging, welcoming friendly folks that used to run it. It now feels young, boring, and certainly no energy or friendly conversation. So, enjoy the movie. But don’t go for the former neighborhood feel.

I haven’t been inside this theater since my sons were going there for $ 5 summer special movies, sometimes in the 80’s. The last thing I remembered was the inside seats smelled like buttered popcorn, if you know what I mean?
This is 2015 attending the 38^th Portland International Film Festival, and I was here several times volunteering.
All I can say: it had been remodeled, improved by 85%. There are 1 ½ extra leg room, I can’t even reach the seats in front of me to rest on them, when I stretch my legs.
Only negative: the bathrooms are downstairs, but there’s plenty of lights to see the stairs. I also like the stained glass of the 60’s!

This is a pretty decent first run theater and have only recently discovered its existence. There are definitely some pros and cons, but all in all a good experience to see a recent film for less.
PROS:
-$ 7 for a ticket compared to the movie theater chains that cost a few bucks more.
–Concessions are reasonably priced and the popcorn always smells oh so good.
–Comfortable seating and the one theater that they do have is about the size of a movie chain theater.
CONS:
–Only features one film at a time (limited on what you can see).
–I’ve been here two times already and the employees aren’t too great at making me feel good that I’m there. They do their jobs and no personal interaction takes place.
–It’s very noticeable when someone enters and exits the one-​room theater during a movie and is slightly distracting.

Fair prices, awesome environment, new technolog all combine to make this my favorite theatre. Be advised if a movie says 735 be there at 725 at the latest… usually movies start at the said time, no previews or just a couple. Also would be nice if there weren’t soo many kids movies or just those during the day and adult flix at night?

The Roseway Theater is an extremely friendly theater. The Roseway has an old-​fashioned quality to it, but is quick to update to newer standards. They had the smiling teenager in the booth outside, despite the whether.
When I walked in, it looked like an old movie house.
The screen was beautiful and the sound was accurate. I saw Big Hero 6 and the seats were comfortable.
If this were to show independent movies, this would feel as communal as a kindergarten class.
Tickets were $ 9 per person. The 3-​D was more scientifically eye-​popping than elsewhere.

We went to a movie tonight and was greeted at the snack bar by a two of the most rude and unprofessional employees I have run into for a long time. The girl had her head on the counter and the guy was texting. When they finally asked «what do you want» my wife was belittled because she did not know what sizes the popcorn came in.
I don’t write these reviews but this was so uncalled for I went as far as to download the app so I could share this experience.

A local movie theater with great seats and a large digital screen. Movies are fairly cheap ($ 7) and concessions are fairly priced for movie popcorn and candy (around $ 3).
They do a good job of keeping their website updated with upcoming movies so you can plan months in advance what movies you’ll decide to see here.
Parking can be difficult (you may have to park a few blocks away) but if you arrive early to an early afternoon show you can grab some of the best milkshakes in Portland across the street at Fairley’s Pharmacy!

Classy, classic, first-​run theater.
Did I know that a reasonably priced medium popcorn was going to be a bucket? No. Did I complain? No. Did I eat the whole thing? Regrettably.
The Roseway is a gem.

We don’t go out to movies much but when we do it’s to the Roseway. Good tasting popcorn and the butter tastes real. Comfortable seats that don’t squeak like other older theaters in town. The picture quality and sound are very good. It’s not an enormous screen like the Lloyd Center but its plenty big and good prices for tickets and snacks. Please check it out we want them to stay in business and keep their prices low.

This is the best theater in the Portland area! They show first run movies, in a clean comfortable theater, all at a cheaper price!
My girlfriend and I went here on a Friday night. We bought 2 tickets, popcorn, candy, and a soda for $ 25… If this were regal or century, it would have been upwards of $ 40.
This value also happens to come with a quality picture, comfortable seats, and friendly service. I really couldn’t ask more from a theater!

The Roseway Theater is one of my favorite theaters because:
*It’s a single-​screen theater that displays amazing digital picture on a big screen & has a top notch sound system.
*Movie tickets are $ 7 at all showtimes & students receive a discount after showing their student ID. 3D movies are $ 9 per ticket.
*The theater has comfortable seats with a good amount of leg room.
*The popcorn & non-​alcohlic drinks are sold at a decent price & it’s always fresh & delicious.
I’m impressed with this theater & have always enjoyed watching a movie here. Great theater, great concession, great service. That’s all there is to it.

$ 7 for a new movie is a great price. It’s cheap because it’s digital, but I can’t tell the difference so I don’t really care.
It’s a single movie theater and is close to my pad, so I dig it.
The downside is that the plumbing must be on the the cahoots because the whole place smells like toilet overflow onto carpet that has never had the chance to dry. I can even smell it from upstais (bathrooms are downstairs).

Wonderful to be able to see the transition of the before and after of this place. I remember going here when they had the very old movies, black and whites (not in the 30s, but they played old 30s movies in the 70s). It was your typical old movie theater. nostalgic that it is.
However, not for folks that want to see things like Harry Potter. Just would be an anachronism. We are pretty picky about the movie screen and the sound. The movie was crystal clear beautiful, plenty big enough. The sound was also wowza plenty big enough. The seats were comfy, roomy and had that whole rocking chair effect to them as well.

Don’t get me wrong. It still has that laid backness feel to it, what with the employees. I actually needed to have my daughter get in there early as we were arriving late and I had already bought the tickets. I gave them all the info and they were very neighborly about the whole thing and agreed to let her in ahead of us even though I had the «credit card» to prove I bought the tickets. I figured in a place like this they would not go all corporate on me. And they did not. sweet!
The popcorn was poppy and airy and the butter tasted real! And the prices were, well nostalgic. five bucks for a big popcorn and 1.50 for bottled water! Hello!
