Rain or Shine Coffee House

Cute place with what seems to be a lot of seating except it was quite packed, even on a Monday morning/​early afternoon. There were a lot of people studying or doing work and several groups of people chatting.
The house made bread pudding was moist and not too sweet. I have had both the cardamom and the rise and shine lattes. In neither did the signature flavor really shine but they were interesting to try.
Overall it’s a cute place to stop by but only when you’re able to get a seat…

Came here on a Sunday after looking at churches for my wedding ceremony. Man, I wonder if all they are always that packed on a Sunday! There was no place to really sit, as the place was full, so we sat at a bench and waited for a spot to open up. Thankfully a woman left not too long after we arrived so we had a place to sit. My fiancé ordered some baked goods for us to eat and they were delicious. I love how many tables and chairs they have here. I wish there were more coffee houses like this because I love the environment, just not sure if we would be guaranteed a place to sit when we visit

I think this place is a nice quiet coffee shop that you can go to. I love their bagels! They do have a variety of gluten free items (as do most coffees shops in Portland) and their coffee is really great! :)))

Love this place! Today was my first time in and I got the cardamom latte which was delicious. And it was served at the perfect temperature. The lighting is warm and the ambiance was inviting. Could be the perfect place to study by yourself or with others.
We had no trouble finding a table, even on a busy Sunday. Also, there’s unlimited access to water which is important to me if I’m posting up in a coffee shop for hours. The manager took our order and she was so cool. Will be coming back!

This place is adorable! It’s the perfect place to study or read a book and the coffee is great. If you’re into interesting lattes they also have some unique flavors (cardamom latte? Amazing!)
Also the staff are super sweet and the manager Annaly is super awesome! Everyone needs to come here, it’s worth it!

Ah, sweet rain or shine. Oh the mid 90s sitcom you’d make. Seriously this place looks like a set, and by golly I love it. There’s no air of pretentious coffee house malarkey here, it’s warm, inviting, and cozy. I love that there are always people of all ages here, we got cool grandma in a corner, anxious high schooler in the other, man this place just RULES. The coffee is delicious and inventive, the baristas got it on lock. Perfect microfoam! Their food is also great, the bagel sandwiches are decently priced and well made with boiled bagels (which is the right damn way to do bagels). I could spend hours here reading, or working on a project, or just enjoying the atmosphere. I always look forward to stopping by, when I come in I hear the dag nab Cheers theme song ringing in my head. It’s great, swing by if you got time!

Portland has some good coffee, and this is some of the best. Brewing Portland Roasting Company (still locally owned) and even open at 6am during Icemageddon. Also has great pastries, quiche and their cardamom latte is amazing.

Love their cappuccinos! Very friendly too, definitely a special treat. Cozy environment. I took my daughters and niece and they loved it too.

About 1.5 miles from my house, I chose this coffee shop over others when I need to buckle down and work for a chunk of time. With pleasant staff, delicious and varied menu, plenty of table space, and amble power outlets, this is a great distraction-​free work space for students, consultants, and work-​from-​home types.
I «discovered» this shop a few years ago while studying for the bar exam. I didn’t receive any flack for «camping» all fay with my nose in a laptop surroinded by piles of books. I just spent four hours with tax documents spread across a table without so much as a second glance.
Oh, and the beverages are fabulous. Rich and creamy lattes. House-​infused simple syrups like cardamom and lavender. Cold-​brew coffee. And don’t get me started on the baked goods, quiche options, and soups. So delicious!

Driven by Rain or Shine Coffee House probably thousands of time being in my neighborhood but I never stopped in. It’s located at the corner of Division and 60^th, parking is not convenient there and lot always seems full. I got a gift certificate from my chiropractor office across the street for writing a review so I finally checked it out after appointment one day. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was super cozy. There are plenty of large tables that would provide good work space, except, they were packed. I had an iced soy mocha and I wasn’t too impressed by the flavoring of it, not unique. However, I may be back to try other drink items.

Every single time I’ve tried this place on my way to work, I’ve been disappointed somehow. Today was no exception… I waited in line behind another customer who hadn’t ordered while the person behind the counter ignored us both just before 8am today. She finally took her order & didn’t even look up at me. She was busy & I Truly get that, as I’ve worked food service before, but would it kill you to acknowledge a customer’s presence? The person ahead of me wandered off to a table with her «to go» order… I doubt she ever got to «go» anywhere at this rate. She’s likely still there waiting sadly for her latte & her to go container for her yogurt. I imagine her day was filled with melancholy all day after this disappointing venture that left her alone and with no yogurt or coffee.
I ordered a drip coffee, as an espresso here is more of a time commitment than I care to make (sometimes 15 min for just plain, average espresso). I got a large and for a $ 2.25 plain ol’ coffee & I’d at least like to enjoy it hot… The first container of coffee spurted out a bunch of coffee really fast, then air, then coffee. This didn’t fill the cup & the roasts were totally different in the 2 containers, so I told the employee that they were out if this Guatemalan brew I’d just filled ½ of my cup with. They were not moved… literally, no movement happened & they acted as though this outage was the newest in a long stream of horrific events that had happened that morning.
So…I mixed the 2 brews & went on my way… moderately defeated. Mid-​way to the car I realize that this coffee is lukewarm at best & tastes like burnt sadness. I was already running behind for work so I decided to pretend it was cold brew & that I’d made a poor decision and leave it at that. The more I reflected though, I felt that the Unilocal masses deserved to know about this and all the other underwhelming experiences (the details for these experiences are all very similar & equally saddening).
Why did I go back, you ask? Because… I was a fool. But, I am a fool no longer… this is Portland & we all deserve better coffee than this! Be surly baristas, ignore me, you can even be downright mean, but at least give me hot coffee that doesn’t taste like burnt sadness! Save your money Portlanders – there is nothing shining about this «rain or shine» place… Ever (even when you Can get a cup of one kind of coffee that is hot…& I say When because that happens so rarely).

One of my absolute favorite cafes in all of Portland.
Great staff, always introducing new seasonal drinks. Fantastic options for sweet or savory pastries made. From local bakeries, as well as really tasty breakfast and lunch option prepared on site.
Coffee is always amazing (Mexican Mocha is my favorite) and their French press is from Trailhead Coffee Roasters and has made me a gigantic fan of black coffee.
The atmosphere is always relaxed and family friendly, and there are heaps of outlets to help if you’re studying or using a laptop.
This is by far the best neighborhood café in Portland!

This is my new favorite coffee shop! Not only is it pretty close to my house, but it is close to Mt. Tabor which is a great place to walking with a warm cup of coffee. I cannot rave enough about the Cardamom Latte. It has just the right amount of spice to be warming without becoming overpowering. Their Eggnog Latte is equally tasty, as well.
The baristas are always friendly and talkative. The barista/​cashier always asks about my day. That is always appreciated, great customer service. The coffee is Trailhead Roasters which is so much better than Stumptown. You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find a Portland café that does NOT use Stuptown coffee. Thank goodness for this place.
My only complaint is their gluten free option: Petunia’s. It is my least favorite gluten free bakery in Portland. But if you are not gluten free then I highly recommend anything off the menu!

You just cannot help but feel happy after you walk in here. Just a great vibe overall. Coffee drinks are expertly prepared, house coffee is fresh, and the baked goodies and small menu very appealing. They have a great mix of bagels, cookies, sandwiches, etc.
There’s a lot to choose form in this neighborhood to grab a coffee and sit and read or meet with a few friends to discuss world affairs. Rain or Shine is such a great choice. It’s pretty quiet, and the service is very polite, very helpful, and you’re made to feel like you’ve been a regular even if it’s your first visit as was the case with me.
Negatives? The lack of parking is a tricky thing and will keep me from visiting often just because it’s way out of walking distance for me and there just isn’t a place for street parking nearby. The prices are a little higher than you can find elsewhere in the area, although they can justify it with the quality.
Shop is very very clean, bathrooms as well. Always important in a place you want to sit and stay awhile.
Overall this is a fantastic place and I highly recommend giving it a try.

Parking…well, that kinda blows, but locals don’t seem to mind.

True to the name, this coffee house offers a bright, open space even when it’s raining out, and manages to be welcoming and conducive to hammering out a few paragraphs on your laptop.
My boyfriend and I walked here recently for a change of scenery, and split a veggie/​hummus/​bagel tower, a mocha, and a coffee over some homework. Mocha and hummus: we’re classy like that. Everything was pleasant, nothing was mindblowing. Pickles were mad vinegary, and apparently that makes them really good.
Excellent outlet availability for your old mac that never holds a charge. Friendly staff and solid brews. I doubt I’ll make a trip over here again just for this shop, but if in the area already, I’d definitely stop back in for a drink.

Another coffeeshop I can add to my list of potential spots to set up camp when I need to study and get work done. I came on a rainy Sunday afternoon and the place was buzzing. There is a small parking lot with 4 spots labelled for Rain or Shine. It also states «short-​term». I wish it was a little more specific on what short term is. are we talking minutes? An hour? I didn’t know what to think of it, so I parked on the street. If I couldn’t find a parking on the side street, I would have had to go further into the residential area. With the torrential downpour Portland had on this particular Sunday, I may have opt to go else where. Alas, that was not the case and I found a nice spot.
I appreciate that they offer two different brews for house coffee. A medium and a dark brew. They are kind enough to allow you to try them as well. I didn’t try the medium roast, but I did enjoy the dark. I also purchased a cookie. They seem to carry baked goods from bakeries around Portland (I remember Pearl bakery and Gem…). They have a lavender syrup that is made locally that I will have to return to try.
Cons: Some of the tables are reallllllly tiny. Like really tiny. There was no way I would be able to have my laptop and my book open on that table, plus my coffee. Center tables are also S.O.L. for outlets. Unfortunately, a good portion of the seating was in the center.
They do have a lot of windows, I bet it would be pretty bright when Mr. Sunshine is out. Yesterday, he was nowhere to be found.
