An early morning. Cold, grey skies. A typical winter day in Portland. A bike ride. Midpoint. Warm and friendly staff. Shadow boxes with knick knacks. Blue wallpaper with white flowers. Rows of old mugs up high. Sullen country music over the speakers. Willie singing a slow duet with a woman. Hot chocolate with a drizzle of chocolate running over the whipped cream. An old photo of a diner gone by. The Angry Bird, my reason for being here. Pulled turkey, eggs over medium, garlic mayo, sriracha and added jalapeños on a soft bun with hash browns. Incredibly tasty. Lives up to the billing. Framed album covers. Transistor radio. Warm lighting. Open kitchen. The smell of fresh coffee. Quiet chatter. Perfect for book reading. Spendy for a sandwich, but worth it. Filling. Local. Time to call it a morning. Onward to the rest of the day. Come enjoy the food here. Like finding a four leaf clover. Not overly hyped. Comfortable. I shall return with others.

A great find in an unassuming little strip mall. Their homemade tomato garlic soup was the best tomato soup I’ve ever had. Salads are crisp and fresh, loaded with veggies(and they make their own dressings, too). Baked goods are wonderful, and good coffee, too. Good service, and very reasonably priced. I will be back.

11:30am 13Jan16. Not crowded. Quick friendly service. Nice seating. Interesting stuff on walls. Good music. Angry bird and breakfast quesadilla. Both with hash browns and coffee. Very large and very tasty. Hash browns with nice crispy crust. Pulled turkey in angry bird had nice seasoning. Lighting could be turned up a bit. Music could be turned down a bit. Will go back.

Grabbed breakfast here twice with my boyfriend on Saturday mornings. We sat at the bar both times. The place was packed both visits but not annoyingly. Food was excellent– order anything, you can’t fail. The coffee is perfect and from a local roaster. Wait staff is great and I love that you can see the dude’s cooking in the back.

We moved to the area a year ago… keep going back to Midpoint. We like lunch best, not as busy. Always great food and the sisters always play great music.

We love this place for breakfast. Great staff and delicious dishes. They always have great specials and we’ve never had anything less than a great experience. My favorite breakfast is The 52nd Ave. with garden sausage(I love that you can choose mashed potatoes instead of hash-browns!).

Yes, yes, YAAASSSS! Yes # 1: $ 5 specialty drink that pairs perfectly with brunch in its balance of refreshing & boozy(and 2 for $ 7 mimosas with a volume beyond a champaign flute) Yes # 2: Amazing, B&B-style, melty, creations that encompass everything you desire when you dream of brunch(chilaquiles & angry bird sandwich with hashbrowns that we just HAD to finish every bite of) YAAASSSS! # 3: Both of the above with no wait at 10:30 on a Sunday and super friendly service with a sweet exposed kitchen where you can see the cooks create your masterpiece accompanied with a killer soundtrack mix of 90s and rockabilly. I haven’t found anything more perfect for a brunch spot here in Portland. Enjoy this secret gem(just don’t tell the media so a well-deserved write up doesn’t ruin # 3)!

Excellent food and service. Hash browns were delish and the hubby loved his point salad, which is basically a Cobb. Toast was yummy too.

Swung in this evening and picked up the Angry Bird for Takeout. The service was incredible, packed up some extra hot sauce in an impromptu paper bag, and I went on my way. When I got to my destination and actually dug in, the burger and *insanely* good; pepperjack blending fantastically into the meat and egg, and it went wonderfully with the extra bacon I got added. The bed of hashbrowns were perfectly crisp, as well. Would absolutely recommend.

My only real beef with this place is how small it is. But maybe that’s a Portland thing? I’m new to the brunch game and usually only going on the suggestion of others. Met up with some friends here and had to order a hot and iced tea cause the Earl grey was decaf. What kind of monster orders decaf tea? They did supply fresh lemon and honey when I requested, so — bonus points for them. Another big plus was that my grub tasted pretty good — although my eggs were a bit runny and therefore actually tasted like eggs — which I hate. I had the Paolo with no mushrooms… Didn’t love the giant garlic. I’d read garlic on the menu but these were huge chunks! Everyone enjoyed their food, the service was good. Would visit again.

When I first found this place, I quickly fell in love with its unpretentiousness, moderately quiet old-timey jazz, good coffee with quick refills, and big plates of good ol’ hearty breakfast. The last couple times I’ve been in, though, too-loud repetitive rock music, freezing cold AC plus an air of hipster-style flippancy(by non-owner servers) have me rethinking my weekly brunch location. I was seriously falling for this joint’s hidden sweetness inside a weird random strip mall on 52nd/Powell and I may be convinced to return more frequently again someday, but I’m deferring to more desirable environments for a bit.

The location and logo of Midpoint give off the vibe of a print shop or computer hardware retailer. When you go inside though, it’s a cozy little diner with a small kitchen and friendly staff. The prices and serving sizes are pretty good. The music choice and quality of the food are both awesome. I had the Tabor with eggs over medium and it was honestly one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. My friend got the breakfast club and it looked incredible. I recommend this to anyone in the area looking for a great breakfast any time of day.

Unassuming, unpretentious, and undeniably delicious. Thankfully located just outside where the Nouveau Portlanders like to go, Midpoint Food and Drink provides quality food at reasonable prices. You’ll recognize all of the ingredients; you’ll really love the taste. Hash browns or mashed are your potato offerings(even for breakfast). Lots of breakfast sandwiches and scrambles. Turkey is pulled off the breast. Whatever you get, ask for a side of red gravy. Staff is personable and accommodating. Comfortable bright red booths and a nice counter provide a semi-retro diner feel without too much formica. In a town filled with overly self-aware restaurants that provide great breakfasts but attract a rather pretentious crowd, Midpoint is a breath of fresh air!

I used to frequent Dots Café back when I lived in Portland the first time around. In a fit of nostalgia, I ducked into Dots a few months ago and was told that it had sold, and the former owners have opened another place called Midpoint Food & Drink in the Foster-Powell area. I bookmarked Midpoint and suggested it as a breakfast spot to a girlfriend, who also used to frequent Dots Café. I walked into Midpoint and immediately felt the Dots aesthetic. Vinyl booths, mid-century lights and a dark moody feel brought me back to Dots Café. The menu is small and focused. Lots of breakfast items, including one of my favorites, chilequiles. The portions are large, the hashbrowns are nice and crispy and the coffee refills keep on coming. It’s a near perfect breakfast joint. Not fancy or fussy, just good basic food. They also feature a decent cocktail menu with a variety of bloody mary’s. Dots Café has reincarnated itself in the form of a solid spot tucked away in an unassuming strip mall.
