Visiting the Pixie Retreat Laboratorie & Makery is always a special treat. I highly recommend trying their products, and then promptly visiting their storefront so that you can purchase things you can’t buy anywhere else. Had the mock TLT sandwich and crackalacka today(crackalacka is their raw hazelnut milk with a dash of coffee. It’s HEAVEN.). Love everything you guys make, thank you!

After regularly eating(and loving!) the kale salad w/macadamia nut cheese that I would pick up at Whole Foods, I finally stopped into the store/kitchen to try some of their other stuff and man, am I glad I did! I am currently making a mess all over my desk with a collard-wrapped millet burger with bacon and a chive-y spread(all vegan, of course)…I’m not even sure what all is in here but it is super delicious and flavorful! I also grabbed a raspberry-almond butter pudding, which I may or may not have eaten most of for breakfast. Also super good, obviously. I will be back to try out everything!

Simply amazing! The pixies know how it’s done! Just picked up some goodies for the rest of the week, and got a new almond butter/salted karmal lil puddin. OMG! this is the best one I’ve tried yet. They know what they’re doing! I look forward to what they’ll come up with next. Bravo.

I cannot get enough of Pixie’s kale salad. It’s a little on the spendy side, but totally worth it. It is the most delicious kale salad. The macadamia nut cheese is super tasty, too! Raw and vegan. They even have a little to-go pick up spot at their kitchen now, in SE Portland. Try their mock BLT, warm up the bread and cheese… it’s wonderful! The pudding cups are great as well… super rich, dense, and filling!

Sometimes I go to New Seasons Market to buy just 1 thing: the kale salad with mac nut cheez. It’s the absolute most delicious snack that you could eat as a meal if you aren’t terribly hungry. I’m not vegan and I don’t have any food intolerances, I simply love good food. When macadamia nuts are crushed and blended with oils and spices, the result is quite like that of a fine crumbly cheese such as gorgonzola; it adds just the right amount of healthy fats, proteins, and flavor to the already protein-rich kale. It’s spectacular. My best friend visits Portland annually and wishes she could find a way to have this kale delivered all the way to Atlanta. It’s that good.

If there’s one thing you should do if you live in Portland(or anywhere in the NW, really), that’s to buy yourself a container of their kale salad with macadamia nut cheese. IT. IS. THE. BOMB. In fact, I’m eating one right now. And yes, it might be my second one this week. It’s THAT good. I have dreams about it, even though I know I can make something close to it. I don’t, though… b/c I know I can always pick one up that’s ready made and waiting for me to devour it. So do yourself a favour and go pick this particular salad up, then follow it with one of their pudding cups, regardless of whether or not you’re vegan or plant based or whatever. Trust me on this one.

I’ve had their goods at food fight and other stores. I haven’t been disappointed. The price for some of the stuff may throw people off but give it a shot, it’s beyond awesome. The kale salad with macadamia nut cheese is incredible as is the millet burgers. The pudding cups are awesome too. It’s premium ingredients hence the pricing. I’ve seen the pictures on the website and wish I could try it all. 5 stars to a bad ass place

This place is only open on select days(currently Thursdays from Noon to 4pm, but I’m told they will be expanding their hours soon). You may already be familiar with many of their products as they are stocked at New Seasons and the Alberta Co-Op, as well as a handful of other organic friendly markets around town. I had already tried one of their sandwiches from the Co-Op, and was very excited to come in and check out their space. It definitely is more of a kitchen/production facility than it is a business, at least right now, but it is really awesome being able to get the food directly from the source(you know it’s extra fresh plus they have things there you can’t get in the stores). When I went in the woman there was incredibly friendly and after I purchased a sandwich and a pudding she gave me a couple extra products for free to try. I think I’ve tried almost everything they currently have now. It’s all raw, vegan and organic. Their BLT sandwich is my favorite, the Millet Burger is good, too. Their kale salad is great, and their puddings and artisan chocolates are quite amazing. I do think the prices are a little steep, but I’m sure they use high quality, expensive ingredients so I hate to hold it against them(really their prices are quite comparable to other organic, raw, vegan products on the market and I think it’s important to support this local company). Anyway, check their website or facebook page before going in to see what their hours and offerings are; if you’re into vegan, raw foods I think you’ll be pleased :)
