Great service and good food. The place is very well taken care of. Games(pool tables, etc…) are all in good condition and the place is kept very clean. Kudos to staff.

Well this is the first negative review I’ve EVER written about a place I’ve gone and I’ve been to some nasty hole in the wall joints with bugs in their food. Pretty disappointing as I’ve enjoyed having a bar so close to my house and the service by the waitstaff, they’re friendly, remember your face, and there’s a lot of room to breath including a great porch. HOWEVER, upon meeting the owner for the first time after a couple weeks of regularing the place multiple times a week, my taste turned 180 degrees. The bar was completely dead, other than keno players and a man I was speaking with. I initially sat waiting patiently while the owner stood behind the bar doing nothing for a good 5 minutes before even being looked at. I wasn’t going to demand service, it’s a bar, I’m patient, I’ve worked at plenty of them and was in no rush. Then I had to wait 15 minutes in a DEAD bar with an empty drinks, staring at him, while he did, AGAIN, nothing but stand around like a statue. I stroke up a conversation with the man sitting next to me to preoccupy myself until the owner finally realized«oh, a customer is sitting with an empty drink and maybe I should do my job up the minimal expectations and standards set for any person who works in the service industry.» Here in Portland, those in the service industry make minimum wage plus tips. I grew up bartending and serving in the south making $ 2.15-$ 2.35 an hour and lived on my tips so I tipped nothing and left a reply as to why since he appeared annoyed at having to do his job and went back to playing on his phone. I put down that I would have liked to tip heavily like normal but felt completely ignored having to wait 15 minutes for any service. I was then told that this was a neighborhood establishment, I said I lived a couple blocks away and then he repeated himself saying that because I didn’t tip him that I was banned from the bar… I’ve never been 86’d from anywhere before. I would hope an owner would set an example for his employees and possibly even set the bar higher for them with great service and hospitality but, instead, I was met with neglect, rudeness, and an almost incomprehensible lack of costumer service or friendliness. No wonder the place is always empty for the most part. Sometimes I didn’t even know the spot was open because no one was inside and no staff was to be seen until sitting in a confused«should I leave?» state upon arrival for a while and then someone popping out on their phone. Not sure how people like the owner even have a business, why they’d set that kind of an example for their employees or how the employees are even paid when the owner likes the place empty other than keno. For a good time with great service and a lack of an attitude, GOELSEWHERE.

I am truly sorry to have to rerate this place! Last night I went in for a couple of drinks and some video poker and another guest became physically violent and stole money from me. The owner of the bar was within 10 feet of the incident and did nothing to protect me. He then seemingly accused me of starting it. I will not be going back. I can put up with poor service and nasty bathrooms but being assaulted and not having the establishment stand up for me is too much. I also overheard the owner Brian tell another customer that they could not order food! Sorry man, if you are open and serving liquor you have to allow people to order food! I wonder how long until the OLCC finds out about that!

My new watering hole. Stumbling distance from my place, diverse crowd, strong and cheap drinks and lots of games and entertainment. Haven’t tried any of their food, but from the reviews, I think I will get a little something next time.

A real North Portland gem! Stiff drinks and friendly people. A great place to watch a game or shoot some pool.

Piedmont Place is Random McStruedel, but there is one really good reason they are getting 4 stars… PINGPONG. If you’re an enthusiast of the not so sport, you know it’s kind of hard to find a ping pong bar, and once you do, odds of the table being either free or accessible withing the bar space are very slim unless you are at Blitz. Well North Portland, here is the answer to your pong crisis. Piedmont place has some random factors to be sure. The whole ping pong area looks like it’s waiting for a concert that will never happen. The back room is the main domain for action here. I like that there is a pretty good diversity amongst the patrons, not too many hipsters, not too many nascar types, and just enough pool hustlers to keep it spicy. Don’t get me wrong, you should NOT make a special trip here, unless you are either up for some pong, or you’re cool with a well priced beer in the randomest of places, but for what it’s worth, you might just have fun :)

Okay okay, hold up. PP, as I lovingly refer to it, is indeed one of the most chill spots in this little nook of Portland. The inside is surprisingly huge and quite nice circa 1993 Holiday Inn in Topeka, KS interstate suburbs sorta way. Yes, nice Ping Pong table. Yes, billiards. Yes, arcade games(Big Game Hunter is no longer with us.) Food is not gross. Beer is cheap, though anything more than PBR is gonna cost you normal PDX prices — my Amnesia draft pull was $ 4. The patio is amazing. It is not crowded. What none of the reviewers has discussed so far, and what I think is the best part of PP, is the clientele. This is one of the few haunts I’ve encountered so far in close-in Portland where the patronage to truly diverse. I don’t want this to come across wrong, but it needs to be addressed. This is not a white-bread hipster dive. There is no irony poured with that brewsky. This is where folks from all parts of the neighborhood come to hangout, from all social classes, of all races and ethnicities. There are the fat, grizzly truck drivers stopping in off Lombard. The hipsters smoking American Spirits. The sketchy Russian dudes who look like they just got out of prison. Some baby-boomer ex-hippies with funny matching Patagonia fleeces. Solitary lotto players of all races. And plenty of folks from Portland’s black community. The mixing might be a tad awkward for some Portlanders not used to being around non-white people, but that is the magic of this place. To top it off, people are talking to each other. They’re mingling. They’re talking politics or playing pool. The only thing preventing me from giving this bar a 5 star rating is the service. The bartenders just don’t really give a damn. When we order food, yes, I need a napkin. I like it when the bar keep pays attention to me when it’s my turn to order the drink. But it’s not horrifying or anything, just a little annoying. I’ve received much worse service at fancy bars.

It’s true. Piedmont Place has secured my patronage. I’ve lived super close to this place for over a year, but I didn’t step foot in there because of 3 shootings and some horror stories from a friend who used to work there. One fine evening, another buddy of mine wanted to meet up, but was too lazy to walk to my house, so we found the middle ground. And there it was, my first commitment to check out the Place. What appeared before my eyes was recreational heaven. First, I see a ping-pong table. Second, I see 3 pool tables. Third, I see Big Buck Hunter(I like pinball more, but it’s a nice touch). Fourth, the drinks are very reasonable. Oh, but I needed some fresh air after having my breath taken away. I walked to the patio only to find — heavenly ‘awwww’ — a basketball hoop. We spent over an hour out there playing HORSE and drinking Amnesia beer. That patio also boasts a big, plush garden and it just so relaxing. I am so glad I made the decision to come here. I will say that the bathroom smells funky and is dimly lit, and the toilet stall doesn’t have a door, but I still consider this place five stars.

I was a dedicated regular of this place for 5 years till I moved a father north to the Johns. But this is hands down the best god damn bar in town. I would elaborate more, but everyone below me on here has said it already. Now I go to Maries in St. Johns its sister bar!

Piedmont Place is, in the parlance of our times, the fucking jam. $ 2 tallboys, $ 3 – 4 cocktails, decent food(really good, if straight-forward, salads), and here’s the kicker: best ping pong table in Portland(other than the back room at Blitz). They also have pool tables, video games(and lottery), and, oh shit, I almost forgot, THESICKESTPATIOINNOPO. There’s a basketball hoop(and the required basketball) and a little elevated yard for playing croquet, or perhaps just rolling in the grass. It is NoPo’s best kept secret, but I’m lookin’ for more ping pong challengers, so bring your ‘A’ game.
