Indian options really seem to be dwindling in the area. This is a nice little spot. I have done Bombay Cricket(unimpressed) and a few others in the area. I still prefer most of the food trucks to any of the brick and mortar options but New Taste is on par with most of them. They aren’t messing around with the spice either. Medium was enough. American spicy almost to much. Not messing around with Indian Hot. The Nan could use work. My daughter kept calling it a tortilla and i couldn’t really correct her…

I went here for lunch last week. The rice and bread was good. The bread was naan but had over all consistency of a roti. I ordered the palak panner and the mushroom saag. I could not taste the spices in either of them. They both tasted like there was way too much sugar put in both dishes. Which was weird!

Actually, I have no idea how the food is, only the service. We stopped there at 8:30 tonite, and despite the fact that their posted closing time is 9, we were told they didn’t seat people after 8:15, We could have gotten to go, but that wasn’t what we had planned. We went to Thai PK instead.

This place is beyond amazing !! The food is perfect and you can get any dish with your preferred amount of hotness. I love that! And they can accommodate the food if you have any allergies! I’m lactose intolerant so they made my dish with coconut milk instead of dairy. It’s just so amazing! This place is vegan and gluten free friendly. It is a must try for anyone looking for amazing food and service!

Every time I’ve come here the food has been consistently good and the staff does a little something kind that’s above and beyond. Can’t believe this huge portion of amazing hot food and all the trimmings are just $ 9!

Nice, simple Indian cuisine, contemporary Bollywood type music videos playing, delicious lunch specials(which include a small desert). Chai is good and comes pre sweetened, but can be made without sugar. Great News! With exception of Naan & appetizers, MOST items are Gluten Free!

I had heard great things and stopped in for lunch with my family. I love Indian food, but the dishes were bland and the service bordering on surly. I have yet to find GREAT Indian food in Portland, and this place is one of a number of disappointments.

We seek out Indian food wherever we go, and this is among the best. A nice, family run business where everyone is engaged for a quality experience. One of the few restaurants I could go to weekly.

Great find. The lunch buffet to-go is one of the best deals in town. Love the chicken Tikka masala. Nice friendly service.

Friendly staff, but really terrible, cheaply made food. Part of the beauty of Indian food is the complex layers of flavor that can only be achieved through hours of preparation. This food lacked any depth of flavor and the ingredients were not fresh(canned peas) and thrown together in a way that made it obvious they hadn’t been simmering as a cohesive dish. The ambiance was equally bad. I think they did the best they could converting an old Quiznos, but it still felt like a deli. Then one of the waiters decided it was time to clean the windows while we were eating(around 6 p.m.). The air smelled of cleaner and it was hard to taste anything but the chemicals in the air. It was so bad, in fact, that the table next to us had to ask him to open the door. So then it was hot and smelly. LOL. I hate writing bad reviews, but this one was definitely a disappointment.

I have been eating Indian food for more than three decades, have many friends from the subcontinent and have dined on food from many regions of India. Unfortunately this restaurant, with a pleasant enough atmosphere and friendly enough staff, lacks any power or clarity to its spicing, flavor profile or freshness of the food. This is not to say the food tastes bad. It is rather insipid, perhaps over-Americanized. There are better choices for Indian by far. Granted, I am making this judgement from only one time dining here, and having the lunch tali special. On the other hand, the tali gave me a chance to sample their rice, aloo gobi, sag paneer, naan, mint chutney. All were lackluster, though the cauliflower was the best of the lot. The mint chutney was clearly old, lacking any of the sparkle of fresh mint. Good enough people working here, including some Sikhs, who I highly respect as people of integrity. I will hope they step up their game.

I love Indian food and could eat it pretty much every day so I was pretty excited when NTI popped up by our home. I met a friend there for lunch where they have a package deal that included drink and dessert. The atmosphere could really use some work but the food was excellent. I like my channa masala very creamy and told them — they were happy to accommodate and it was perfect. The price was very cheap but the servings were pretty big so its not just good food but a good value too.

Went for dinner with the family. It’s a pretty cheap place. $ 55 +tip for whole family. The Lamb vindaloo is too sweet. The Chicken tikka masala was way too sweet. Kids liked chicken wrap and vegetable wrap. Wraps are obscenely oversized. A horse could eat only one. Service was attentive and quite friendly. They have 4 Indian beers. Sadly I liked the service but I ant see going back. The over sweetness reminded me of crappy mall Chinese food.

Located just a block away from work, I find that New Taste of India fulfills my Indian food craving for a short period of time. While I normally do not dine in, I do find their to-go dish very affordable($ 7) and can last 2 days worth of lunch if you let it – they do fill their to-go containers to the brim. I’m very particular as to what I like from here, I’ll only order their spinach dish and their chicken tikka masala. I do find their rice a bit over cooked and their desserts a bit lackluster. However, their naan and chicken tikka masala work very well with one another. I was disappointed in their spinach dish on my recent visit as it contained chicken with cartilage than what I’m used to. I suppose their service can vary and I normally receive a welcoming vibe from the woman that usually works there since their opening, but my recent visit was not her and the gentleman was quite the opposite. Although, I had seen him before and was greeted kindly then — I guess it was an off day? Will I be back? Certainly, but only on occasion when I’m craving Indian food and they have the dishes I like.

Ordered from them while we were enjoying IPAs next door at NW Growlers, and the food was delivered promptly. Everyone at the bar highly recommended the wraps — $ 7 for a large naan stuffed with meat and veggie goodness, enough for two meals. We ordered one for lunch the next day. For dinner that night, we pigged out on the Saag Channa(chickpeas & spinach in onion, garlic, ginger sauce) and Chicken Jal Frazie(chicken marinated in spices with bell peppers, onions, and tomato). They were both insanely good. New Taste of India, Thai PK, and NW Growlers are the trifecta of go-to spots on Macadam for me.

Wonderful food! So happy we found this place in John’s Landing. The Tandoori Chicken Tika was tender, hot and delicious. We also had the Aloo Gobi which was spicy and also well cooked. Service was prompt and prices are reasonable. The hot Chai includes refills too! We will come here often.

This food is the BEST Indian Food around. Knowing that the owners review this. I would love LOVE to see a cook book of some of the recipes you have. Everything we have tried here has been beyond amazing. The customer service here as well is top notch! Its our only to for Indian food now. I recomend anything that says rich creamy curry.

You know those days at work where everything’s so dull it’s like you’re listening to a TED Talk on the color beige? And the closest thing to sedating yourself you can get away with is putting yourself in a big ol’ food coma? New Taste of India is your pal. Treat yo self. Lunchtime is a competition I have with myself to see how much food I can get for $ 10 or less. My regular cup of soup and salad bar from New Seasons might keep me healthy, but it doesn’t give me much. However, NTI has one of the best lunch specials I’ve seen in Portland. Choose two items off a tantalizing list of every Indian dish you could want. They’re served over rice with, naan, raita and dessert on the side. All for $ 7($ 8 for eat-in, $ 9 for eat-in with a drink). This is a FEAST. If you’re able to finish it in one shot, I’m officially impressed. I ate until I hated myself(to make Louie CK proud) and will save the rest for after my now mandatory yoga class tonight. Color me impressed, NTI. Just gonna sit here at my desk and maybe unbutton my pants and put my feet up…

It was horrible… Took almost an hour for the food to get served! After we ordered about 15 minutes, the young waitress gave us a bill. WHAT!!! She giggled and took the check back! It was a big disaster here. We were planning to do a family style. I ordered Chicken Tika Masala(turned out to be a sweet BBQ chicken in sweet sauce). My bf ordered Lamb curry, it was the same way, lamb in sweet sauce. My gf ordered shrimp curry(we only ate the shrimp). We ordered Garlic Naan, we had to make believe that it was just a tasteless bread instead. They got a one star out of me because I like their mango Lassi. My gf ordered Strawberry Lassi(it was just an expensive strawberry smoothie). My check came out to $ 54 which left a bigger BAD taste in my mouth. :(We didn’t even finish ½ of the food and didn’t want to take anything home. NORMALLY, I love love love left-over. Sad place, I was all excited about this restaurant. I was the one that created this new biz on Unilocal. Oh well, another one bites the dust! :(

This is a great addition to the Johns Landing neighborhood. Good Indian food is really, really hard to come by in Portland. And this place fills the void nicely. They do a nice channa masala and the saag paneer is a-ok. The entrees are garnished with lemon wedges and raw onions, which adds a nice kick, and come with rice. If you choose to add on naan for a few bucks, it’s pretty tasty. Prices are a bit high for what you’re getting, but probably adhere to Portland’s concept of value. I believe they serve wine and beer, and they are fast to refill your water. They have 2 food trucks in town, but this is their first sit down restaurant. There a few service hiccups so far, but I think they’ll catch on. It is one of the few options in the area(and only in the neighborhood) for Indian, and it’s a good one!
