Mt Scott Park

This message is for the owner of a large black and white Pitbull wearing a studded harness that is running around the park off-​leash… You’re a real JERK. Next time you hear somebody screaming for you to come get your dog and put it on leash because it’s terrifying them (and spare me your «it’s a nice dog» garbage… I don’t care) how about you own up that your dog isn’t everybody’s cup of tea and that to some it’s frightening and come get it instead of pretending like it’s not with you. Or, and here’s a great idea… just KEEP IT ON A LEASH.

My family loves this park. We live exactly between two parks and this one ends up being more of our go to park.
There are lots of trees, which is nice for shade or protection from our common rain issue we have here in Portland and shade from the sun. There are a lot of options for playground equipment; anywhere from smaller toddler equipment, on up to no kid equipment that is more challenging. They have wood chips under the play area to cushion children’s falls and to keep it from turning into a mud pit.
They have a decent sized tennis courts and and lots of nice walking and riding paths. There are tons of areas for a pic Nic, but if you plan on having a party here, it’s best to reserve a spot so you can ensure you get the area you want.
There are seasonal restrooms, which I know the vagrants and junkies use, so bring your hand sanitizer and squat.
I always see people taking care of the grounds and cleaning it up. It’s pretty safe here, although there are vagrants that tend to keep to themselves and some druggies and gang members every now and then. For the most part it’s a super family oriented park that our community really cares about and wants to keep safe. If it’s raining, go check out the awesome community center. They have indoor play for toddlers Monday through Friday 9 – 11, for a whole dollar. It’s located in the downstairs roller rink and they offer fun equipment.
Mount Scott offers tons of fun and affordable classes and camps for all ages.
Please stay off your cell phones and enjoy time with your kids. Keep an eye on them so others don’t have to. Help keep our parks clean and safe. Pick up trash and always report suspicious activity. Don’t complain about your community, make it a better place.
I always like to hit up Space Monkey across the street for a drink and extra ah time for my toddler before or after as a special treat.

Relatively few used needles for the area and lots of trees! The playground sits far away from the street which is a big plus for me and the equipment is quite nice.

Shade! Sounds like a small thing but on a sweltering 95 degree day in Portland, it’s just what I needed! There are lots of trees to create shade (or shelter from drizzles) as well as open sunny spots to catch some rays.
Like a lot of parks, there are a good number of picnic tables, grills, and other amenities to serve your needs. Although there is a bathroom, I don’t recommend using it. Make the walk to the community center for better facilities.
Street parking is plentiful all around the park! That is something I can truly appreciate since Seattle parks can present parking challenges.
If you have little ones, they have a playground area. There’s also a couple of different fields to run around or play sports. We used portions of the fields to fly remote controlled helicopters. Fun!

I like this park! It’s got lots of shady spots under big beautiful trees. Tons of picnic tables and a nice path around the park. The negatives is that thee is no off leash area for dogs and there are homeless people living there. I am not opposed to homeless people, but you don’t expect to run into someone sleeping on he path.

I recently organized a family picnic for about 20 people. I called in advance and had the option to reserve a picnic area and ultimately opted not to since we were going on a weekday around 11:30am. The park has lots of shady trees, a playground, restrooms, lots of street parking and about 10 picnic benches.
As nice as it was, it does not compete with the parks in the suburbs. They also have a major fly problem, yuck. It is also in a sketchy area.

nice, but not a dog park…

Beautiful clean park, with a playground and tennis court plus a community center great place to take the kids and or the dog for a walk. Not as big as I expected but a good size park very shady and quiet.

Named for an Oregonian editor of the late 1800s, this park’s an anchor of the Arleta neighborhood, offering a huge space to run around, large playground area for the kiddos, and open areas for your dog to go nuts. Trails, both paved an unpaved, run throughout, and there are plenty of picnic tables scattered — having a big group here for a BBQ or something would be easy as pie.
Plus, it’s next to a most excellent community center, with full pool, skating, and gym facilities, so if you don’t want to brave the park restrooms, you can go inside, no prob.
My favorite part? The trees are huge. HUGE. Lay under one of those bad boys and look up, with the sun shining through, and remember why the copious rain of the NW is important, all whining about the dreary weather this spring aside. Acquired in 1922, this 11-​acre park has had time to grow beautifully.
