Nice park. We used to play kickball here. The neighborhood is nice. Kickball is fun. Grass is green and not over used.

My only complaint about Berkeley Park is the play equipment and the lack of adaptive equipment for children with disabilities. That’s kind of a big deal — but — we make do! From kickball to baseball, soccer to tennis, and sledding when it snows… This beautiful park has set the backdrop to many gatherings, picnics, celebrations for our family as well as friends in this neighborhood. Portland completely rocks in the parks department.

This one time, my dad found a homemade bottle bomb right in the middle of Berkeley Park’s baseball diamond. Like any good citizen, he called the police, and around 2 a.m. that morning, the bomb squad came to our house to confiscate it. I totally slept through the entire thing. I’m pretty sure that was the only time anyone in our family has found anything really questionable at Berkeley. I grew up at this park, as it is literally right down the street from my parents’ home. How lucky, right? When Oregon was cold enough to snow, we’d trek down there with our little plastic toboggans just to sled down one of the big hills. It was fun. Even now, it’s a good place to meander while depressed, swing when you’re happy, and pretend to be short enough to use the swinging monkey bars. And it’s great, because the playground area is gorgeous and shaded, and great for lounging around, provided you’ve found a spot clear of dog doo. Oh, and have you tried playing tennis around midnight? Amazing. And hilarious. And so, so much fun. It’s truly theBOMBdotcom, one could say.
