I suppose I might be staying at the same Airbnb property that Hannah L mentioned in her review. There is a coffee maker, grinder and coffee beans offered here now, but having an empty pantry, I went to Mocha Momma’s for some breakfast before doing some grocery shopping. This little café seems pretty normal, but service is friendly. The food choices are healthy but kind of typical. I had the Sellwood egg scramble, but I think I might have eaten another customer’s order because my scramble didn’t have nearly all the veggies I thought it would have — nor did my «good seed» toast have any seeds in it. I’m so sorry to the other customer who might have unknowingly ate my scramble, probably wondering, «Where’s the meat?» The space is a bit small, but perfect as i doubt there are any huge lines. There’s wi-fi available and I agree that the tables aren’t too small that you can’t hold your laptop(if you’re doing work) and your meal.

Just discovered this place a few weeks ago and have visited twice. Both times the service was great, very friendly and clear. It gets a little bit loud for working, but it has good sized tables, plenty of outlets, and seems to not get super crowded, which I count as a plus. Combined with the free coffee refills(yes!) and good food options(even for gluten free meat eaters trying to avoid lots of sugar…) and I’m a big fan. Coffee is good, but the atmosphere, set up, and food really make it.

If you stay at an Airbnb property so newly renovated that it doesn’t yet have a coffee maker, it becomes imperative to make sure there’s a coffee shop less than a block away.(Preferably not a Starbucks.) Mocha Momma’s was right around the corner, and it appears to be a great little spot to have in the Sellwood neighborhood. My Americano was just fine, and although my man said the drip coffee was a tiny bit weak, that doesn’t matter so much because they offer unlimited refills on coffee — and one refill on an Americano, something I’ve never seen before. Though we were saving up our brunch appetites for Papa Haydn down the street, I noted with favor the presence of a small breakfast menu including breakfast sandwiches(my favorite thing, and too often overlooked by coffee shops in favor of pastries). There was a nice friendly vibe; the woman behind the counter clearly knew many of the customers, families with well-behaved kids were using it as a meeting point to begin their day, and various other singles and couples were scattered around working on laptops or reading the Sunday paper. A just-right spot for a relaxed weekend morning, or anytime when you might want more than one cup of coffee or just some friendliness with your to-go order.

Enjoyed a Dirty Chai one morning. My husband had an orange/mango smoothie and I thought it was really good, tasted like a creamsicle.

Solid. To start with — good coffee. Not Stumptown, which is nice if you like variety. Then we could talk bagels, in a word — yum. Or we could talk eggs, taters etc. Pretty tasty. I’ve probably been to this place 50+ times. I often come to do work for a few hours, read or whatever. They have decent sized tables(so many cafes give you a table you can barely fit a laptop on, let alone a notebook and something else), free refills on coffee, free wifi and food. What else is there? Plus it just kinda feels nice in there. Anyways, check it out. Don’t be afraid.

Nothing special about it other than it happened to be 10 feet from my front door. I do enjoy a good cup o’ joe that does have a green mermaid on it.

I sat here all afternoon and actually concentrated on preparing for my finals. Everything was very adequate, and I will likely repeat the event. I mean, I live sooo close by. Baristas/chefs/owner(?) wanted to be sure I was fine and enjoying everything. I couldn’t figure out how to express«I’minareallyhorriblemoodbecauselawschoolfinalsarestressingmetheefffouuuut» without being a huge jerk to sweet seeming people I don’t even know. My breakfast was good. It was not cheap, but it was no more than it would have been at a restaurant: and here I ate my breakfast and then just kept on treckkin through united states code. A real plus.

My morning coffee joint! Great bagels and coffee. Love that they carry Aardvark hot sauce :) Some of the staff on the weekends seem to get a bit overwhelmed when there are more than 3 people waiting but whatever, It’s a great neighborhood coffee shop!

The coffee is actually good here – imagine that! In fact, it’s some of the tastiest coffee I’ve had in the Portland area so far(disclosure: I’m new to town). The tater scramble is also delicious. Make sure you order it with the focaccia. I’ve ordered the scramble and an americano on both visits to Mocha Momma’s and they were both consistently good. Keep in mind that they can get rather busy at around 8:45 in the morning on a weekday; there’s only one employee working, as both barista and chef. Even so, both baristas I’ve met have been very nice. The ‘50s décor is comforting and the food and drink are fantastic. Highly recommended!

Oh, hello, don your finest Betty Draper capris, load up the kiddos in the Cadillac, and head on down to Mocha Momma’s for a fine meal and a coffee to make Betty Crocker herself red with envy. I had driven past this place about 1300 times and always felt inclined to stop, but for some reason or another, the timing was never right. It all fell into place today, when I had some time to kill in Sellwood and my stomach was growling so loudly it was echoing in my head. Just a coffeeshop? Oh, no, dear reader. They have a full breakfast/brunch/lunch menu in addition to a full espresso bar and pastry case. Prepare yourself to relax to the smooth sounds of the Rat Pack, Rosemary Clooney, and Leslie Gore while devouring such delicious meals like breakfast scrambles, salads, sandwiches, and soups. Take a peek around you and take in the fabulous framed shots of stars of yesteryear and old-timey war posters. Most meals run around $ 6 – 7 bucks at most, with a la carte items and sides at 1950s prices to accompany the décor. Everything’s made from scratch in a tiny kitchen behind the espresso bar. Two full cases of bottled drinks. Beer and wine round out the libation options. This place is super friendly and super Sellwood. The icing on the proverbial angel food cake was that I ordered my meal a bit off of the menu, with some substitutions and additions, that the guy working felt should be less than the advertised price. Oh, hello. My large meal of roasted potatoes, red peppers, onions, eggs, and a side of fruit was quick, healthy, delicious, and a bargain to boot. Oh, and they pull a hell of an espresso shot at this joint. Mocha Momma’s is my new go-to in Sellwood. As if the interior weren’t adorable enough, they’ve also got a glorious patio filled with tables. See you soon, Momma. I’ll be the one with the beehive next time.

Every time I go to Mocha Momma’s I find something new to like about it. First it was the Kettleman’s bagels and salmon cream cheese, then the awesome iced toddy, and once the weather warmed up the patio out front was nice, and I just got around to trying a scramble, which was made of awesome. And don’t let that first review fool you, the people here are really nice too.

I’ll begin by admitting I do not drink coffee, I am 100% tea before approx 5 pm. However, I have brought coffee snobs in from out of town and they are always surprised. Why 5 stars if I don’t even drink coffee… The food, it’s a small menu that hits the breakfast spot every time. The eggy bagels are usually what i’ll get and it’s a near perfect breakfast. The staff is friendly & competent and can usually handle the constantly fluctuating orders,(I swear one minute you’re the only one in there, 5 minutes later there are no tables). Great if you’re in this area visiting or otherwise and you want coffee and/or breakfast, good for a meeting of a small 4 person or less party. They also have outside tables that are great when the weather cooperates.

I’ve been the Mocha Momma’s quite a few times now, since it’s super close to my work. I wish I could give it 4+ stars based on the food(try the Chicken Salad or an Eggy Bagel with cheese and avocado – mmm!), but I think it only deserves three for a couple reasons: 1) It’s a little pricey. I got the Chicken Salad and a 12oz. latte and spent over $ 10. I just didn’t expect that here. 2) The service I’ve had, at least from one cashier, is none-to-be-desired, as the last reviewer stated. She absolutely couldn’t care less that I was there, let alone that I was trying to make light, witty conversation with her as I decided what to order. And, after seeing my face in there several times, do you think I could get a smile? Not even a smirk.
