Mike’s Special Burger is the best. The only thing I wish is that the burger wasn’t so «wet».

This location has its own parking lot. A very good bonus as the parking nearby would be filled up and make this a much less convenient stop. What can you say about Mikes? Sure its fast food. But its not sitting around fast food. Its made to order. They have a very basic menu. But a variety of Burgers. They also have chicken strips clam strips and soups. The seasonal changes to the menu are usually the hits. The shakes and the sundaes are made fresh with fresh ingredients. So, its hard to classify is ot a desert place with food or a food place with desert? In the end does it matter? They cater to the high end and the low end budget. You can have a 99 cent cone or a 12 dollar Burger meal with fries and a drink. They also have sides and souos which they appear to make. I wouldnt say its the ideal date place but it is the ideal after movie after a long day place to take the kids and know they will be filled up with better than McDonalds food. Thats a compliment.

Great burger and shake place. They have fast service and great food. Kid friendly plenty of parking. Just wished there was one on the west side of town.

So this run-down little place serves a traditional burger with pretty boring fries in a setting meant to invoke the old-school drive-in feeling. These days that includes car-theme wallpaper runners and… not much else. Very well used settings and an akward counter setup combined at this location to make the experience a strange one, for sure. Waiting for the pretty plain burger I was left to examine to other customers because, frankly, there wasn’t much else going on here. Maybe it’s worth it for the ice cream, or there’s another feature they have that keeps this place open, but I can’t figure it out. Price was just a dollar or two below some of the other nicer places nearby and more expensive t han a mcdonals or burger king so they’re a bit off the mark, whatever they’re trying to accomplish…

Mike’s has got it right! Good old Mike’s. A SE Portland classic that works very hard at giving customers what they want. They have 3 locations, one in Oregon City, one in Sellwood, and a small get it to go version in MIlwaukie. I’m writing this review fro the Sellwood location, which I feel is the best of the bunch as far as service, cleanliness, and atmosphere. If you great up in SE Portland and you haven’t been to MIke’s, something went wrong. It’s a staple that is here to stay and you can see why. Classic burgers and fries, ice cream floats, and guaranteed goodness. You can picture a Portland native moving to Chicago and telling downtown work buddies all about it. I usually go in for a chocolate shake. Old school, and comes from a soft serve machine where they still add in the Hershey’s syrup by hand. Being veggie, they have some surprisingly good options here. Gardenburgers come nicely dressed with house sauce and all the fixings just like regular burgers, and you don’t get raked over the coals on the price. MIke’s aims to please. It’s been around since the 60’s, and been a place the school kids go after the big game, been a place you could«walk to» for that first date in junior high, and been a place of solace for the older couple that remembers swinging by here for an ice cream cone back in the day. For me, it was the place Dad took me after getting a haircut as a kid. Something for everyone, and a step above fast food for sure. One thing I’ve always appreciated about Mike’s is that while their menu and prices have had to change with the times, their attitude and atmosphere haven’t. Give it a try, you will come away very satisfied.

Love this place! Amazing food(bacon cheese burger is my favorite & the ice cream ofcorse)!! Great customer service. Lovely little place to eat. A little more expensive then other burger places but you get what you pay for. Recommend it for anyone.

I’ve been to Mike’s three times since moving to Sellwood, mostly because of it’s close proximity to my front steps. And I am absolutely unashamed to admit that I haven’t had anything there aside from soft-serve vanilla cones. Those cones own my soul and call out to me at all hours of the day and night. Really, I should be somehow humble bragging that, despite that level of temptation, I’ve only been three times. Oh, wait, I think I just did. Sidenote: It is hotter than Texas mid-August inside Mike’s; get the cone and get out.

2 stars. More cons then pros. 1. Over priced food on everything. 2. Russian woman at front desk has attitude problems. 3. Burgers are plain and thin,(way too much lettuce. 4. NO control over noise, screaming kids. Pros are: Good location. My suggestion: spend less, get better quality. Walk down to road to Killer Burger.

I am not much of a burger person, and when I am craving one I like it to be top notch and so far, this is the best burger I’ve had in Portland. Really nice staff, pretty quick with food, and it’s really delicious! If ou haven’t been here, give it a try.

Only«fast food» burger chain I will eat at. The quality is exceptional for the price. I always get a gardenburger, which comes with a healthy wheat bun. They also have real ice cream, not just soft serve. Overall, WAY better than Killer Burger down the street.

Reviews for this place gave me lofty expectations but it’s nothing special. Burgers are okay. Lots of hype about the milkshakes but it’s pretty hard to mess up ice cream blended with your choice of sweets. Onion rings are memorable though and it’s neat that they offer tater tots. Then again, so does Sonic. This is more of a ‘snack stop’ than a place for a really good burger. Maybe if you grew up coming here it would have a nostalgic draw but based on the taste and value of what you pay for there’s not much tempting me to return any time soon. By the way, there is no outside seating and no drive-thru.

I like the burgers here. Solid, no frills. Consistently good. The place can get slammed suddenly. There is no good or bad time to go, it can be just the luck of the draw. But high noon and dinnertime seem good times to avoid the joint during the weekend, especially if the weather is nice. I like coming here in summer /spring and going to the river afterward. Good times. Recommend.

I’m not sure why this place is called a Drive-In because it doesn’t seem to have that drive-in, order from and eat in the car service. It’d be cool if it did though. The staff here are very funny and very friendly. The food is pretty good. The restaurant is clean. The oldschool burger joint styled theme is a cool throwback. Overall, I really like Mike’s.

Overpriced for what you get, but the food isn’t bad at all. Very classical style simple burgers and sandwiches paired with simplistic sides such as fries or tots. What I do like about this place is the variety, the seasonal specials, and the occasional deals. Mike’s serve up simple burgers with a variety of topping combinations. With their happy hour and occasional deals such as certain days having discounted items, this place is worth trying out for sure. One knock on the burgers here is that while they’re cooked juicy and well, the patties are extremely small and thin for the price you pay for them. The price range is around 6 – 10 dollars for some patties that are not much bigger than your nearby McDonalds. Quality wise is much better(still using McDonalds here), but the size for the price isn’t very pleasing. Aside from the burgers, the milkshakes is what they have going for them. Many different flavors and combinations, my personal favorite being peanut butter Oreo. It actually has chunks of both peanut butter, and Oreos blended within. My recommendation here is to go during happy hour. See if the burger is worth paying for during that time, and while you’re there, grab a milkshake for sure.

Mikes is great but nothing special. It’s your typical burger joint. I would have liked to rate them a little higher because I LOVE that they offer a gluten free bun option, but the last time I came here my food smelled. Dirty. Gross. Like trash. Like my burger and fries had been dropped on the floor for a while. I don’t know what was going on with that, but that was a few months ago and I have not returned. Killed my appetite. Shakes are great though!

Just had dinner here tonight and it was delicious. I had the bacon cheeseburger. The sweetheart had the Mike’s Deluxe(it has a fried egg too). They also other things like gyro, halibut and fries, and milkshakes. The bacon is delicious. It’s thick and not to crispy which is perfect for me. The fries were shoestrings and good. i hear the milkshakes are delicious and I want to try it. The seasonal special was wild huckleberry. When you enter, it can be pretty busy and packed. You have the option to order take out or dine in. If you dine in, the tables have napkins and your standard mustard and ketchup which is nice. It is nice when you have napkins at your disposal because the burgers can be messy and you don’t know how to hold onto your burger. All in all, it was a good dining experience and I would come back again if I am in the area. Next time I will get that milkshake or make a float. They also do yogurt shakes too for a healthier option. Oh! Cool thing is the variety of buns. The sweetheart had a pretzel bun. Someone in our group had a gluten free bun. The standard is your normal sesame bun. The burger patties are ¼ lbs.

So the wife and I actually had a night out without the baby. A friend of ours offered to watch our little diva while we went out for dinner. It was just the wife and I. We were in the mood for sushi, no naturally my wife wanted to go to Saburo’s for dinner. We drove out to Sellwood and as I was looking for parking I saw no lines, you think, great! But they were closed for the weekend and we got stuck with no sushi. I quickly pulled over and looked at my Unilocal app and asked the wife if she felt like anything, she thought about having a burger. I remembered driving by a Mike’s Drive In and saw that it came recommended. She agreed and we went there. It’s a small little tiny place, reminds you of a place that high school students would hang out after the football game. The wife ordered the Mike’s Special Deluxe and I ordered the Applewood bacon burger. She upgraded her meal for a Marion Berry milkshake. The food did not disappoint at all. I thought it tasted really good. The burgers were not too greasy and the fries were cooked very well. That Marion Berry milkshake… oh yeah that was some really good stuff. A few weeks later we went here after playing basketball, this time her brother and my brother joined us as well. They ordered their meals but got soft drinks instead. Wife asked them… why didn’t you upgrade? It’s like $ 0.99 more. Her brother was like… really? So he upgraded his as did my brother. And the reaction was…“wow…that milk shake is really good”. I can defiantly see me dragging my daughter here for food in the future when she’s old enough to hold a burger. Forget sushi… give me a burger!

Another beautiful evening in the PDX and we had an enjoyable home cooked meal by my brother’s girlfriend. They offered up the idea of heading down to Sellwood and getting some soft serve ice cream, or «creamies» as she put it, she’s from Vermont, I guess it’s a regional thing, who knows. But soft serve ice cream for under a buck??? Was it going to be good? Apparently there quite a few good things at Mike’s Drive In. Burgers? Fish baskets? Grilled cheese? Fried oysters? And milkshakes? Yes to all of it. I can’t wait to get back and try some of these items. It smelled good in there. You have to love a retro menu. No vegan this, Paleo that or diet other stuff, well maybe Diet Coke. This is simple fried or flat top grilled items kind of place and you take it in moderation. That’s it, that’s all there is, deal with it or go elsewhere. I plan on returning soon. Enjoy!
