This is my weekend brunch go to. Great jazzy spins on simple breakfast favorites, with the option to build you’re own if you’re feeling like a classic breakfast. Excellent goat cheese scramble, perfectly done bacon, great biscuits and gravy and a beautiful Bloody Mary(seriously, it’s divine!) Never a wait for brunch served by super friendly awesome staff. Mimi and the girl with blonde/pink hair are always the best! Weekdays they have great bar food as well, love the Mac n cheese, pretzel fried chicken, brisket and fish n chips. Morning or night, you can’t go wrong here! Love this place!!!

Stopped in here for a drink and a snack in the afternoon. Not many people inside, but it was 3 o’clock. They had a Bloody Mary on the list and it was hard to turn down, so I gave it a go. It was definitely on the spicy side– which I love! My boyfriend had a red beer and we split a basket of their onion rings. My friend and I checked out their brunch menu and we can’t wait to come and try their«topless mimosas» and their brisket hash(I think that was it?). Looks like a good spot for beers and drinks and an easy meal. Also, it has it’s own parking lot– definite bonus!

Meh. Not sure I will try this place again. They were pretty slow on a Saturday night. A couple of friends and I decided to give it a try. They had a new bartender and she was just kind of ditsy. Friends ordered fries and she forgot them. She didn’t tell my friend who ordered fish and chips they were out of tartar sauce. Her drinks were not good and neither was her customer service. I tried really hard to believe it was just her being new, but we were one of 10 customers in the whole bar, most of which were just ordering beers. She also had a seasoned bartender with her who was doing a lot. Food was just ok. I got the vegetarian Ruben. I could honestly make better at home. Not worth it. Because they were out of tartar sauce my friend got the Philly Cheesesteak. She seemed to enjoy it okay, but said there was too much bread. Also, they charged my friend $ 4 to add a teaspoon of grenadine to her drink after the new bartender made it too poorly for her to drink. Four bucks? We went to another bar to finish off the night.

I’m not a brunch fan. Fighting crowds for breakfast food, overpriced drinks, and a wasted day… just not my thing. I was recently guilted in to brunch in the name of a «birthday brunch», which was held at Mad Sons. Reluctantly, I caved… and was pleasantly surprised. Mad Sons may not be known at all for the brunch, but it was easily in the best couple brunch experiences I’ve had in PDX. We had a big group, which they were kind enough to accommodate, but they really weren’t crowded at all anyway. The brunch menu was small, but every single thing I saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. $ 10 «topless» mimosas went over well with my group, the bloody mary’s looked amazing(complete with bacon), and the tap list was interesting enough for me to sample a few new beers. You don’t have to order brunch food, so I was stoked to get to have the brisket sandwich instead. It was really good, I’d go back just for that. People may eventually figure out that this is an awesome brunch spot, but for the time being, check it out before it’s cool!

I really like this place! the food is pretty darn good too! Must tries: fish and chips, chicken sandwich, and pulled pork sliders! I also had the Mac and cheese and felt it was lacking in flavor! Definitely not for Mac and cheese connoisseurs!

Looking for delicious low carb lunch or dinner? Try the chopped salad. Very fresh, with robust chucks of bacon slabs and delicious generous brisket bits. And generously poured drinks at reasonable prices. Seriously, a Polish vodka(so good I can’t remember the name, if you know what I mean) tonic for 6 measly bucks.

Discovered this place randomly on a bike ride and decided right then I wanted to have my birthday here. It did not disappoint! The food(OMG, skinny fries, pork sliders and brussel sprouts & bacon — delish!) and drinks were great, and the owner and wait staff kept making the trip upstairs to make sure we were taken care of. The owner even made the space festive with balloons. Didn’t get a chance to use the photo booth, though. Have to go back :) Would definitely go back just to chill, and have good drinks and yummy food.

I love the laid back, chill atmosphere of this place, but I didn’t plan on waiting over an hour for my dinner! The bartender was also the waitress. Maybe they were understaffed this night? So I’ll definitely try them again and update my review if I have a better experience. You have to wait in line to order a drink each time, and also to order food. No gluten free bread options; had my hamburger on a bed of greens instead. Wish they had an expanded menu and wait staff.

The result of sprucing up the old Madisons, a brilliant marketing move by the current owners, remove an «i» and get to use the fab sign with surely less costly modifications. Anyway, I don’t know about the hipster nepotism accusations, there were all types of people in there when we went, and the two bar tenders were friendly to all. The space is nice and open, but also dark and bar like at the same time. Some of the tables are a bit impractical to sit at, the barrel underneath holding up the table blocks a place to put your legs, but more of an issue if you have a large group. There are tables outside including a dedicated foosball area, pretty sweet if it isn’t overrun, like I am sure it is when it isn’t super hot. The décor is not over the top, but has that American roadhouse sort of feel to it. Comfortable place to hang out for sure. They have AC! Sweet, it was nice and cold on this day of temps hovering around 100. Extensive drink menu, full bars, 10 or so beers on tap. A place to drink! We also ate some food as well, the menu was way different than what is up on their web site. Had the cheese spread, some fries, and a salad. All the food was good, perhaps not the best ever, but very good value, and tasty, which I always appreciate. I dig this place, I’ll be back.

You may think you’ve eaten some delicious Brussels and bacon, but I promise it’s the pits compared to Mad Sons’. I can’t get enough of it. I want it all. All the time. Just sit me in a corner and give me the entire pot. That’s not all that’s good. Every single meal I’ve had here is delightful. Their specials are consistently good, too. As are their drinks, list of rotating taps, service, and ambiance. I just love this place. I can’t even be witty about it. it’s just a simple love. Upstairs they have a photo booth. This is important. They have outdoor seating in the front, but with a busy street and a parking lot out front, you don’t go for the view. You sit there for vitamin D, if you like that kind of thing. Or you go sit inside a beautifully dark, mahogany-everything place of refuge from the bright star in the sky, and you lounge and you drink and you pretend you’re classy because that’s the kind of place this is. It’s a great place for a first date(but don’t blame me or Mad Son’s if it goes horribly and taints your perception) or a fifth date, or drink with a coworker, or family meal, or pretty much anything. I’ve never been really late at night, so I don’t know how crowded it gets, but on late afternoons/early evenings, it’s perfect.

Neat atmosphere and décor. Came to watch March madness game and have a drink. They have one tv upstairs in the loft/game room. Bartender was unsure how to make an old fashion but she made up for it with a generous pour of red wine! Would like to try the brunch next time — the menu looked pretty tasty

This is a cool spot. Great food. Relaxed«Revolutionary America themed» atmosphere. Ton’s of clean space. Standard what-you-have-come-to-expect-from-the-Portland-waitstaff, waitstaff. I will have to pop back in again towards the summer.

Mad sons, madison. Great homophone/heterograph! Grabbed a couple of beers, and headed up the stairs. Delighted to find a few booths and a pool table to play for free. We did a few rounds, I lost every time. Worked up an appetite, and ordered the Mac ‘N Cheese with bacon. Got tired of loosing pool. Decided to play Big buck hunter. Lost at that too. Rough night. The mac ‘n cheese was delicious. We cut up the bacon, into little pieces to avoid fighting over 2 pieces of bacon. We’ll be back! Gotta work on my pool strategy. I am a little rusty.

This bar is great!!! The inside has such a cool theme! The drinks have always been consistently good, staff is friendly. I have only been here 3x but it’s been great every time. The menu is a little expensive but definitely worth it! Haven’t tried the food yet, but that will change soon. You can’t go wrong with any of their cocktails!!!

Not to be mistaken for mad-i-sons the previous bar. They pulled a Montgomery Park thing on the sign. Great bar with friendly staff. The upstairs has a pool table and a few games. Drinks were reasonably prices and the few bar apps we had were very good. They have a nice large community table upstairs. The bar is themed with«Americana» and Revolution. Great alternative to some of the other bars in the area.
