Wanted to like the burger, ended up only liking components of it. Bun, house pickled garnishes were very good. The meat was bad, black & blue, which is perfectly fine except the black part was just grill singe, too much bitter completely destroyed any savory in the meat, also underseasoned. Tots were fine, house made ketchup with the(clove? Cinnamon?) super tasty. But bottom line, if you Fup the meat you Fup the burger

Loyal Legion is the place to go if you want to sample local beers from all over Oregon.. .it’s the«one stop sampling» place. I was very impressed that they had about 90 different beers on tap on the night that I went.. .and they are ALL from Oregon! The bartender told me that their printed list of beers changes almost every day because they are constantly rotating in new stuff. What I really like is that you can get a sampler size glass of any beer you want for $ 2.00 each.. .but there’s a four sampler minimum if you want to do that. I love samplers because I can just get a small amount of something to try without committing to a whole pint of something I might really hate. Over the years, I have tasted plenty of beers that I hated and just ended up leaving almost the entire pint sitting on the table.(I like to support LOCAL brewers, but unfortunately just because a beer is brewed in Oregon doesn’t mean it’s always good. Having traveled around the state to check out small breweries everywhere, I know that from experience.) It also happens that Loyal Legion has a huge selection of whiskeys too, and I’m pleased because I’m also a whiskey lover. With all the beer tap handles they have and all their shelves of whiskey, their bar seems like a MILE long, and that’s pretty cool. We went on a Tuesday night, and even on a supposedly quieter night, Loyal Legion was fairly busy and noisy. But, it was HAPPY noise.

99 beers on tap. Great ambience, and OP snack food. whats not to like? No wonder this place has gotten hugely popular since it opened about a year ago. Go early if you want a booth and are in a big group.

This place has definitely gotten better with age. We were here when it first opened and I would only had given it a 2 star. Better service, great beer and an amazing burger! I do love the décor and the vibe is very Portland. The beers are $ 6 but no tipping. I still have a hard time with that. Bar tender suggested beers and they were awesome. Absolutely recommend this place for a beer and burgers.

I am so happy to report I need to update my review to give Loyal Legion five stars! After the first few visits, we were kind of done with the place. After a couple of months, we spontaneously visited again one Saturday afternoon and had a great experience. We went again the next weekend with a group. Now it’s our most frequented bar, by far. Depending on hunger levels, the pretzel is top three in Portland. The beer list is constantly changing. The bartenders have become so much more attentive… what happened? I don’t know, but I’m not going to question it too much. This is a true example of a bar being totally mediocre but having all the potential in the world to transforming into one that has finally met that potential. I’ll be there in an hour with a friend — see you there!

Something is wrong here! Great beer selection, great food, great space, NOT great service. Not sure if the servers have gotten an ego now that LL is consistently busy but wow is it hard to get some ones attention. I understand that during a busy weekend but figure it out. We’ve had to wait, semi patiently, many time to just get beer menus then were forgotten about for the next 10 – 15 minutes. When we did get service it ranged from super nice and knowledgeable to down right indifferent. It’s a bummer because they have great beer and the Gruner burger, hand dipped corndog and pretzel are all super good. Management needs to get the staffing figured out as they are getting a rep around town for this.

I will as well start with the positives. I have been here many times. After work, weekend mid day, late night — amazing food. The beer selection is perfect. Apparently — this has created an area of ego to the staff of the joint. Last time we came here it was a 20 minute wait for a beer. Dispite what our guests said, we chalked it up to a Friday night and brushed it off. This last time it was 4pm and the bar was NOT busy. We didn’t even get noticed for 5 minutes and then another 10 minutes before we had to flag someone down to get a beer. The dark haired bearded gentleman held his hand up giving us the«one minute look» and came over with a grin and extremely rude. We ended up just grabbing a beer instead of the normal taster and bailing to head to another spot up the street. This place has definitely gone down hill which is a bummer.

I’ll start with the positive, good beer selection. They had a few beers I was surprised to see and a lot of beers that are everywhere. The tap house was comfy and had a cool layout. The negative. There were 7 other customers and it took 30 mins to get handed the menus and beer list. There was 4 bartenders/waiters. Then they took our order and they never gave the food order to the kitchen. So food took over an hour. Then we had to flag down waiters whenever we need to order anything. One was especially rude to us. So overall I’m not coming back, if I’m going to spend 50+ dollars on beer I’m going to one of the great bottle shops and I’ll get some good beers.

Revisited today and it was MUCH better. The service, while still not mind blowing(still had to do some flagging), was better and more attentive than previously experienced. Our corner was not ignored! Yay! The food was excellent. We shared the burger(delish), the corn dog(amazing and my favorite) and the tots. Everything was done well and tasted great. Also, the wait times weren’t obnoxious. Way to go guys! The beers were enjoyable and they had the windows open since it was a nice day, which was awesome. Overall, the experience was much better and I’d be happy to go back and watch more Timbers games.

First and foremost, this space is grand and gorgeous. I’ve only been in a few times, but I’ve always enjoyed myself and my beer at Loyal Legion. Bartenders are friendly, happily dispensing free samples of a few beers and describing their favorites. I have yet to have their brats, but have had some their other bar food that was pretty okay. One thing that gets a little muddy is their pricing. When this place first opened, they were higher priced and cash-only but justified that by building tips into the menu prices. At first, they did not accept tips. Then, gratuity was still built in, but they accepted tips if people were so inclined to give more. Most recently, I was told that tips are no longer built in to the prices, but that they do accept cards. On the consumer end, this is a pretty significant price hike, since we are now paying 20% tips on top of the already higher-priced beers. Food is more reasonably priced. I’m all for servers and kitchen staff earning a living wage. However, Loyal Legion has waffled quite a bit on its policies, and I’m no longer sure that the high beer prices are justified, especially compared to some other very successful taprooms in town that also seem to treat their employees very well. Overall, a nice place to get a drink, and I’ll certainly be back to try a brat sandwich. However, this place is too expensive to make it into my regular beer bar rotation.

That feeling when… you’ve arrived! Loyal Legion is aptly named. They do modern cool and classy like it was 2016 in a 1916 setting. Golf clap anyone? Why thank you! Came here recently with a group of friends that raved about this place. It’s like one of those meeting halls where your Grandfather hung out after the war, meeting up with his buddies and swapping stories. These days make no mistake, the ladies are very welcome here and rightly so! This place does not stand out by any means. Going against the grain by every standard advertising bar, you basically have a beautiful old warehouse building in inner SE that has no signs, no big outside lights, so bright colors, and no distinguishing features. Driving at night you’d never think it was the most glorious beer hall in PDX. Somebody had some serious cajones! Inside it’s dark, intimate old fashioned tables and booths with killer background music playing… and we’re not talking Top 40 Pop for Millennials… good Blues, classic album rock, etc. The ultra long back bar has 99 taps, all Oregon brews with no apologies. Small food menu, but what they have they do very well. Not many veggie options for me, but their house cut fries were amazing with several dipping sauces. In house sausages are the real menu treat. The beer? Oh wow the beer. Ask at the bar for a tasting wheel. They give you a round piece of paper and you write in what you’d like to try from their gigantic menu of rotating beers. The average taster is $ 2, so you can try several without breaking the bank. They always have a few good value beers, $ 5 for a 25oz German size pint! Speaking of $ 5, all beers are $ 5!!! They just come in different sizes to reflect the cost of each. Really smart! Fantastic selection of IPA’s, ranging from malty to super citrusy which is great for me. Also a healthy choice of fruit beers, dark beers, and various Ales. You can almost picture the monthly meeting where a group decides all huddles together what beers to feature. Best job ever right? Downsides, there’s no table service, so you have to get up to the bar and order everything, which can be a bit difficult when it’s busy and trying to track down a server. I drop a star for that. Best to go on a weekday evenings when you can enjoy it more. Also, I think calling it a gastropub is really over the top. The food menu is far too small and the meals far too meager to be a true gastropub. Overall, just an amazing place and one I plan to get to often. It’s far too good a value and too good an atmosphere to stay away long!!!

Really cool ambiance and amazing selection of beers. The extensive beer menu has everything clearly labeled by type of beer and then a description of each one. Even the pickiest of beer drinkers will be able to find something they like here. The bartenders are also very great with offering recommendations. This place used to be cash-only and did not accept tips. This is no longer the case. You can start a tab on your card and you are expected to tip, so disregard any previous reviews that say otherwise. Great amount of bar seating plus intimate 2-people booths and larger tables and booths for groups. Despite where you sit, you order at the bar — servers do not come to you, so that is up to you whether you like that or not. Can’t speak for the food, as I didn’t have it. So I’ll update my review if I go back for that. Unfortunately the worst part of this place to me was the lack of distinct signage on the building. Unfamiliar to the area, I drove by it at least 3 times before I realized where it was, even though it is a large building. Then once you find this spot, good luck finding any parking… Horrible area for it. I recommend walking or taking an Über/Lyft to get here.

Yikes! This Chefstable spot misses the mark. The concept of 90 taps is a good one but you’re better off in another beer bar. This one doesn’t flaunt good service or good food. The beer selection is large but not a great selection. Just go to a bottle shop or another beer bar if you’re into great brews. Maybe this is geared toward tourists rather than locals? Went on a slow Sunday night(maybe ¼ full) and plenty of servers/tenders were there. When approaching the bar to order the server was taken aback that we wanted to put an order in and acted unprepared to do so. When we asked if we could order he mumbled something and scrambled to try to work the screen. Strange, but eventually he did it and charged us. Then gave us a number for food and poured our beers. Ordered two diff Olympic Provisions sausages $ 6 each(+$ 1 onions on each that we didn’t order and +$ 1 kraut on each we did order). Sausages were good but the pretzel bun wasn’t. Pretzel bun sounded so good too… Onions seemed like day old, soggy and were flavorless. Kraut was bland and had no zing to it. A wasted $ 4 upgrade. $ 2 of onions which we didn’t even order but were charged. Oh well… $ 2 is no big deal so we just figured we would not worry about it. That would have been The veggie bowl for $ 8. Got a refund for the $ 8, but want to warn others that are veggie inclined. Loyal Legion, you are in Portland so you should probably only offer a veggie bowl with«seasonal vegetables» if you’re going to do it right. It’s more like a tomato cuke salad on soggy, flavorless rice. LL apparently doesn’t listen to it’s employees because the server agreed that this bowl should be taken off the menu or revamped. Bummer. Might wanna hear out your employees. LL may also want to consider larger signage regarding cash, ATMs and tips. It would help the masses on busy nights. I imagine Friday & Saturday could get busy because of the location.

The minus star, is that they are cash only. In fact, two ATM machines sat behind us like lottery games. I am surprised a big establishment like this is cash only, but I’ll stop now. $ 6 for Olympic Provisions recently called by the WHO cancer causing kielbasa, french sausage, chorizo, frankfurters. $ extra for grilled onions, peppers, etc. The best beer cheese sauce I have had with pretzel to date. Great atmosphere with what seems like 100 beers on tap in a large u-shape bar, booths align the walls. Copper Hall wine also served. Some healthy option include kale salad.

Alright Loyal Legion, after 3 dates we’re going to have to break up. When we first met, shortly after your inception, you had the most delicious Olympia Provisions sausages with the option of delicious toppings at your demand in a bowl of broth with potatoes or a pretzel roll — one of the times, the kielbasa was nearly 2 – 3 inches longer than the roll(oh, that sounds dirty). But my boyfriend and I went tonight, here’s what we noticed: — You can no longer get your sausage in broth with potatoes & goodies — Instead of free toppings, you have to pay $ 1 for sauerkraut, onions or peppers. I find this particularly annoying that I have to pay for sausage toppings that were once free. I didn’t check if it’s a dollar for each topping. I loved mine with sauerkraut & onions, but just got onions this time… — The onions were *so* caramelized that a few were burnt, they’d gone a little too far for my liking. — Tater tots came in a small bowl, when they used to come in a basket. Problem is, the price is still $ 4. So you’re now getting less tater tots than they used to give out. I’m just not sure, other than the allure of 99 taps, what can really bring me back here? There’s plenty of bars with beers to offer, and even with food + tip, I’m likely to get more of a meal for my money’s worth.(If only I can have the mustards, though — that will be hard to let go).

Bitchin brewpub! One-Hundred Oregon craft beers on tap. Wow-say! Beers you won’t find anywhere else in Portland. Olympic provisions sausages made 9 different ways; throw a dart at the menu and you can’t go wrong. We tried four different IPA tasters and settled on the Ordnance, which is brewed somewhere near Baker city. Ordnance was a ghost town purchased by owner/brewer and is making some bitter better IPA, has a Sherman tank and named his IPA, FMJ(full metal jacket) and 1st year in business. Bitchin brew! You want to find out what’s going on in Oregon Brews then this is the place to try out. Bartenders know the beers well. Great place to taste Oregonian craft beer!

Loyal Legion is pretty straightforward. It’s a bar with 99 rotating taps, some liquor and majority of the food consisting of Olympia Provisions hot dogs etc the bar is big and rectangular and there are many tables and booths around the outer edge. You’ll quickly figure out that you’re screwed because you don’t have cash on you. it’s cash only! hopefully you brought a debit card — there’s an atm inside. the beers are fully explained in detail on their tablets that they have lying around, the menu lists the beers but, doesn’t have descriptions. the hot dogs, are tasty and $ 6(includes tip). in fact, all the prices include the tip. beers are $ 6(they got rid of the $ 7 price) 99 beers is actually a lot! it would be hard not to find something you’d like to drink. cheers!

I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I wanted, but what little time I did get to spend I enjoyed it! They did a great job with the setup and there is TONS of seating. I have no idea what the capacity is, but it has to be enough to fit a small country. I was told there is a basement and upstairs as well. That may just be for events though. They have 90 some odd beers on tap, multiple on Nitro. At first look you might thing, wow $ 6 for a beer. However you will notice they DONOTALLOWYOUTOTIP. So the extra $ 1 per pint is presumably for the tip. The one draw I could see is after 10PM all beers are $ 7. That seems a bit steep for a beer. IMO. On the flip side, every single beer is the same price so you can get a really great beer for the same as a «meh» beer. They are cash only and it is pay as you go. No tabs allowed so bring some cold hard cash. I did not try the food but they do similar pricing and the descriptions sound great. This is meerly a beer and cool place to hang out review. I will be back!

Amazing beer collection and a wonderful atmosphere. This is a very chilled out place with a huge selection of beers, as has already been noted by other reviews(99 beers on tap). This is a cash only place and they have ATMs indoor if you are not carrying any cash. Also the tip is included. We showed up after 10pm so it was $ 7 for a beer and they were not doing flights anymore. On the weekends this place is open till 2am so a good place to chill out and I really liked the big booths with the high leather sofas that they have. They have some options for food but we did not try them. The bartenders know their stuff and I would recommend anyone who has a doubt to get their opinion. I found them to be pretty helpful. I ended up having the Arch Rock Garden Larger and tried some of the creamy ales. They have free tasters for some beers and for some tasters you might have to pay a little bit. Have fun and enjoy the variety of beers.

Important to know: cash only, and everything(drinks and food) must be ordered and picked up at the bar by you. No servers coming around. Also, no tipping as the prices include tip. 99 beers on tap so there is something for everyone. I think they are still working out the menu — a bartender kept recommending something which wasn’t on the beer list. Also, Morningstar is the veggie burger option here? This is Portland — the world capital of vegetarians/vegans. Please do better and update the menu. If not house-made, look into field roast or something of better quality please! They are definitely trying though and the owners seem very excited. I hope they will work out the kinks and listen to customer requests on here. I’m sure I’ll be back with other friends and will be open to an updated review.
