I come here for the handmade goat milk soaps. $ 5 each, 3 for $ 11, or 6 for $ 20. The essential oils used in them is amazingly fragrant and the soaps don’t irritate or dry out your skin. They’re body soaps but are so gentle I use it as a facial cleanser without worrying that it’ll make me break out. The owner said it’s made by her sister and they both use it as shampoo also. She said the goat milk will moisturize your hair so you don’t need conditioner.(I’ll have to try that when I get home). The jewelry is VERY unique and pretty but out of my price range for the most part: earrings range from $ 20 for simple sterling silver shapes to $ 100+ for fancier designs.

Bought some cute gifts here for friends while I was visiting Portland. I bought 2 goatmilk lotions to give friends and ended up keeping both myself because I LOVE the way they smell and they’re completely non-greasy. I’m nervous that when I run out the next bottle will be expensive as it will require a flight to Portland…

This is a cute little store that literally has a lot of cool local arts & crafts. Everything from candles to soaps to cool tshirts and sweaters. The shop owner is pleasant and you will find sooooo many prints here that are very etsy like! I almost bought like four sweaters before realizing that it would be like 1236142th black sweater with like one word on it and put it back. We were here to wait out the torrential downpour that happened upon us sporadically. Welcome to Portland?

«Hello» This is a nice thing to say when someone walks into your store. And then you can proceed from there. I am sorry to disturb you but I thought you were selling local made wears and would have a story for the item that I was holding in my hand… Guess not. That is why the item is still there and I have the same amount of pleasantries you gave me. NONE. My other shoppers, there are other stores, keep movin’, find another one…

I really like this little shop. It’s stocked with all your portlandia-esque hippy supplies; Goat milk soap, soy candles, hand blown glass stonerware, t-shirts, and locally made crafts. My Fiancée is a big fan so I came in here the other day and stocked her up with some little surprises. I got her a really nice pair of fresh water pearl earrings, a little purse, some lotion, a couple candles and some natural chap stick for under 50 bucks! She was pretty damn stoked too. So fellas, take my advice and if you’re strollin down Alberta one day, pop in and do what I did. The ladies love surprises and you won’t be broke when you’re done. Even though a place like this will mainly appeal to the ladies, there are a few things that appeal to all gender types. Four stars and Three cheers for Local Discoveries! HIPHIPHOORAY!

Like most Portlanders, I love supporting local businesses. I enjoy keeping my money in the community, I love finding unique treasures and I take pleasure in supporting someone’s dream of owning a business. Sadly, I can’t always afford to shop at local shops as they do tend to be a bit spendier than corporate chains. Local Discoveries has great gifts, Portland-themed clothes, candles, cards, jewelry and hair pieces at amazingly affordable prices. I always brace myself before looking at prices at local shops yet I have always been pleasantly surprised at Local Discoveries. I found a fantastic head wrap for a friend there, a local art t-shirt and fragrant soy candles all under $ 10 each. The store isn’t terribly big but they do pack in a lot of goodness in their limited space. I don’t think there’s a single thing in the shop I wouldn’t consider owning or gifting. Local Discoveries is nestled in a complex with a few other great retail businesses making local shop hopping possible. I’m especially fond of the consignment store in the back(future review). The Alberta Arts District has so many great local businesses and Local Discoveries is no exception. If anything, it’s a highlight. Stop by and see for yourself.

This shop is in the same location as The Lady Of Shalott. There’s another 1 or 2 shops in this space so it’s a fun place to browse. It’s also a great area to get out of the rain. They’ve got consignment clothing, jewelry. There’s also a whole line of items done by Sagework who is the owner of the place. My husband was looking for a turquoise ring but there were none to be found. The cashier was more than happy though to see if the owner might be able to help him with finding one, or even making one for him!
