I had the BANHMIFUFU and my girlfriend had the Burnside. Both were amazing! We almost didn’t let each other taste our sandwiches. Looking forward to going back again!

This is the best sandwich place in Portland. Yes it takes a little longer but REAL food usually does. I would take anything on the menu as my last meal on earth especially the French dip or veggie sandwich. The guys behind the counter really care about quality and go out of their way to make customers happy– no snobbery here. If you get a chance to swim in their BBQ sauce take it! It’s some of the best I’ve ever had. The place is casual and you get a lot for your money. I almost always have to(get to) take half home. There’s something to be said about not having to wait in a crowd these days for good food in Portland! This place is a gem!

Good sandwiches, unfortunately they take a real long time. To get the order to you, I can’t take a lunch break here because of the wait. And it isn’t even packed

Sigh. These peeps need to get their act together. Visited last night. We made an order for 2 sandwiches and a small fry to go. Guy working said they were out of the bread for my sandwich and asked if I would be alright with hoagie bread. «Sure, it’s my first time here so I don’t know what it tastes like with it’! After about 15 minutes the young man who rang us up says to my husband that his sandwich bread is out too(wouldn’t they know that 1 minute after we ordered?)…would he like another sandwich? So he changes his sandwich and they say they will upgrade us to a large fry. Ok sounds fair. Keep in mind there have been 3 parties of people after us, 2 of which received their food. So we wait… and wait… and wait. The third party receive their orders! Finally we get our food and get the heck out of there. When we go to eat our wiches’ mine does not have the changed hoagie bread but what appears to be something like dave’s killer bread. A total rip for 9 bucks. My husband’s wich’ has an odd taste and the supposed upgraded large fry look smaller then the small size patrons at the restaurant were munching on. BAH, I say bah! I get that places can run out of ingredients. I get that places have off nights. But the fact that we stated it was our first time there and still have 3 parties get their food before us, wait over 30 minutes, and not receive the«upgraded» fry size makes me feel wary to come here again.

Went with my brother and cousin and each of us enjoyed the food tremendously. I had the breakfast burger + fries and it was great. Friendly staff and a chill environment. I will definitely go back!

During my first attempt to eat here my boyfriend and I were turned away(politely) by the owner who had just received a massive lunch order from a local business, depleting them of any extra veggies to use for walk-in customers, so just beware that is always a possibility when you come here. I was a little disappointed but he told us to come back another day for a free sandwich on the house(woot wooooot!). Fast-forward a month or two later, we swung by here on a whim and were happy as clams that they weren’t out of anything :) I had a plain-jane deli sandwich and the boy had the«Banh Mi Fufu». The aioli on the deli sandwich was super flavorful and the pork on the Banh Mi was delicious. I’m big on bread and these rolls are pretty awesome… brought fresh daily from Pearl Bakery. Lucky for us, we got some of the last hoagie rolls of the day. They have a good selection of local brews, as do most PDX grub joints, and sodas if you prefer. They also serve breakfast, which I have yet to try, and the gal that served us on this particularly day was super spunky and happily took our orders like a pro. We will be back to try out the other sandwiches.

It is day two of Burger week 2015 and a buddy of mine and his daughter met me at Knuckle Sandwich for a burger. An unknown burger at the time only because I didn’t bother to look online. I preferred to be surprised. Surprised at how good this burger was! The Piñata burger was the choice for day two. Fried jalapeños, bacon, guacamole, grilled onions and a spicy mayo with nice flat top grilled burger and a good bun. This is right up my alley. I’d have like it to have been a bit spicier but the burger, as a whole, was so tasty. The guys in the kitchen were churning it out despite the fans that were barely doing anything. The cashier, who was helpful and friendly, told us that AC was supposed to have been installed prior to burger week, but they ran out of time. No worries, thankfully it was only in the low 80s. Although being on that flat top couldn’t have been a ball. As for the burger? Simply great. The crunch of the bacon, the ting of the jalapeños, the creaminess of the guacamole and really good burger. I will admit that the burger fell apart a bit quickly. The bun didn’t hold so well, but it was still a success. It was nice that one of the owners? was walking around asking everyone how their burgers were and thanking them for their patience and for showing up to Knuckle Sandwich. That was cool. I’ll be back to try some of their other food soon. Enjoy.

Always great sandwiches. Tried about 5 different ones now and they’re always really good. A bit pricey but I always know I’ll enjoy it so it’s worth it to not get something for $ 6 that is inedible. Just try the amazing brisket sandwich and decide from there if this is your kind of place.

Gentrification tried to strike here, but it struck out. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, however the ability to deliver a decent sandwich just wasn’t there. Overpriced for what it is and took far too long to come out. With all of the sandwich spots in Portland that, on average are about $ 2 less, it is hard to say I recommend this one. Would I eat here again? Maybe, if I were drunk.

We were excited to try Nuckle Sandwich. The Chicken Coop looked really good. For a Banh Mi, even if it’s a «fusion» ish style, it wasn’t that good. Too much mayo even though i asked for half the amount. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad, it was just«meh» and I’d rather go to Meat Cheese Bread or even Ate-oh-Ate down the street if I’m in that area.

I know 5 stars can be hard to believe sometimes but, this place deserves all five! I had been hearing(and seeing) great comments about this for the past year or so and had been dying to give it try. So I finally made it over to 21st&SE Burnside and ordered the«Classic» burger and the«Bahn Mi Fufu». Let’s start with the classic burger. It reps it’s name well! I hefty all beef patty with 2 strips of bacon, a generous amount of cheddar and the perfect combo of veggies and condiments. No need for additions and I recommend not leaving anything off. The Bahn Mi Fufu is an elevated version of the classic Vietnamese staple. The only major difference is that they use(delicious) pulled pork instead of pork bell. Sweet, spicy, crunchy and filling! I can’t wait to try some of the other menu items(ie, brisket, meatball sandwich, and«Da Dip»). Highly recommended by a career foodie(before Portland was a good hot spot) and sandwich lover!

I love this place. It’s small. Not fancy at all. And freaking delicious. I have only had the Banh mi… but it’s so good that I crave it on a regular basis. I come here just for this sandwich. I went today, and my 9-year old got the chili burger. I tried it and holy crap. Some of the best chili I have ever had. And I’m from Texas. I will be back in cooler weather for a big bowl of it. I will also try the Burnside the next time I’m there, as a guy next to me was eating one and it looked incredible. The few bad reviews on here are bogus. They have Square now, so you can pay with a card. And the staff is nothing but the nicest people ever. I went a few weeks ago, and they were out of one of the toppings for the Banh mi. I was bummed, but ordered it anyway because the slaw and meat are so good. But you know what, sometimes restaurants run out of ingredients. These reviewers that give low ratings because they didn’t have something need to get over themselves. Go get knocked out by a Knuckle Sandwich. You will not regret it.

Being a relatively new transplant to PDX l, everywhere I go is an adventure. Every time I get bit by the adventure bug and decide to go on a random«walk-about» I am rarely if ever disappointed. This little gem of a place is a perfect example of what a little adventuring can do for your taste buds! I opted to sit inside but they have a few tables for outside eating should choose to do so on any particular given day. Sitting«inside» is somewhat negated when they have the big door open, but I didn’t mind getting a cool breeze anyway while I ate my delicious sandwich. Go here! Check it out and order the Lil’ Ray! It won’t disappoint you.

I went to this side of town for a restaurant that had a two hour wait.(No thanks) I took a stroll down the street and saw the«now serving breakfast» sign. Score! I was not sure what to expect when I ordered the brisket hash. The hash was delicious! The presentation was also very pleasing to the eye. The restaurant appears to be an old mechanic shop or something of the type, it has a garage style door, which was awesome, being it was a beautiful day and they had it open. I will definitely go back.

I live nearby, but it’s taken me a while to try knuckle sandwich. Meh. They were out of the first several things I asked about and then I settled on something, waited ten minutes for the most stoned sandwich cook in the world to make half of it, then tell me they were out of a key ingredient. Don’t go here sober. This place looks great and all, but they don’t have their act together. Don’t let people get super high on the job in a business that’s meant to have speedy service.

To start the logo is radical, very eye catching so props to the artist, fun atmosphere, The cook in the 49ers hat kicks ass! We ordered two distinct sandwiches– the eastsider and the brisket sandwich– both were a delight. Great flavors! Unique ideas, all around good place to pop in for a bite

Knuckle Sandwich’s menu has several kinds of sandwiches and burgers. After a few minutes, I decided to order the brisket sandwich. I had a large fries and a fountain soda with that. It was $ 13.50. I sat at a long wooden bench which was actually fairly comfortable. The mixing with the outside and the air that came it made for a pleasant wait. After about twelve minutes, I received my order. The brisket sandwich was intriguing. They places lots of brisket and a nice amount of sauce on it; it was topped with onion rings. As I ate the sandwich, I loved the tender meat combined with the arrangement with the toppings. They made brisket work on a sandwich in a unique way, the many other places fail to do. Although brisket is in several different pieces, I was impressed with how most of it stayed inside the buns. The flavor wasn’t just good, but it was glorious. The large fries were mostly good. They came in big portions of bistro fries. Because the fries were small, unlike the typical sized fries, I enjoyed them more slowly. They were delicious and crunchy. They weren’t the best, but they were good and they were priced okay. I would recommend Knuckle Sandwich. They provide very tasty food in a good atmosphere. Although their prices seem high because they aren’t a restaurant, they bring the food to you after you order and the invest similar if not often superior quality into their meals. What you’ll order will likely be something memorable. The ingenuity in making their sandwiches is impressive. That is why I got what I paid for. Knuckle Sandwich is something that customers can likely see as a place to return.

I had just gotten my foot tattooed, which is not a pleasant experience, and, as you can imagine, when we got home I was level-10-hangry and my feet were not happy with the idea of walking me somewhere. It was an emergent food crisis. My boyfriend brought me a burger from this place, and it was the BOMB.(Yes, I know I have the best boyfriend ever!) Thick patty(juicy and rich), lettuce, mayo sauce, red onions, and bacon. Didn’t need anything else – the burger shone all on its own. Some burger places try too hard – this one tried just hard enough. One of my favorite burgers in the area. If you’re having a bad day, drop a brick on your foot, or just generally need something delicious and filling, this is your spot. No joke!

Sue and I came over to Knuckle Sandwich on the weekend. It was rainy and chilly and the space here was pretty cold. It is basically a former garage. Should be nice in the summer when the garage door is opened, but on a chilly day it wasn’t exactly fun eating here. Honestly that isn’t a big deal. You can always take your sandwich home. I had the Burnside($ 8.50). The sandwiches here aren’t huge in size, but they make up for it in the amount of meat and other goodies they put between the bun. This sandwich was a messy affair. House roasted beef, grilled onions, cheese wiz and sweet peppers all jammed together in a Pearl(I think) bakery bun. It was difficult to keep the thing together without losing half of the ingredients. Along with our sandwiches we also had an order of fries($ 3). No need to order one of these for yourself. They give you a crap load and a steal for that $ 3. This place has some tough competition in this town. I still can’t say I’ve found my go to sandwich shop. I miss the ones from the east coast because their sandwiches were actually large and much cheaper than the sandwiches on this coast. Oh well. I will just have to enjoy them when I’m back there in a few weeks. That is totally irrelevant to this review.
