This is a coffee shop. It took 31 mins to get a toasted bagel from the time I placed the order. So ridiculous. I know they are busy but 31 mins is 21 mins too long to get toasted bagel. I mean come on…

Tried the southwestern breakfast sandwich and the biscuit was the best part of the whole visit. The hazelnut praline latte was a let down but good atmosphere and friendly staff. Previous reviews weren’t as accurate as I had hoped.

Best breakfast sandwiches in Portland! Great coffees and tea. Peanut butter fudge mocha is my favorite drink that everyone needs to try.

Came for the Pig Newton. Yummy deliciousness of sausage, pepper jack cheese, wrapped in buttery pastry goodness, topped with cheese and jalapeño. They also serve a veggie version and the original, non spicy, the way I like my women. You can tell it’s a very family run business with family photos on the wall and cake and pastries named Patty Cakes. I was even rung up by the daughter-in-law.

Seems like a decent place, though once I was comfortable I was informed I could not have my dog inside, unlike most reviewers have stated. Not sure why I wasn’t told when I first came in, but we were there for almost an hour, able to use the WiFi and eat treats(chocolate brioche bun for me, milk bone for the pup), and I had just started getting in to my drawing groove. By this time it was raining outside. It would’ve been nice to have been told this information before any of these things, but mostly the rain. Was the barista misinformed, were the previous reviewers misinformed, or have the rules suddenly changed? Either way, currently the message is DOGSNOTALLOWEDINSIDE for anyone wondering like I was. If that’s wrong, let me know.

I am not so sure about the name of this place… It sounds old and fuddy duddy. The place is not though. It’s not your typical coffee shop though. Everyone is nice and helpful too. They could use more outlets. I would have given them four stars, but the fact that they use Kobos Coffee(the best coffee in Portland) bumped it up to five stars. I have a feeling that the food is good here. The pumpkin cake that we had was just OK.

Hopefully, this is Coffee People’s final form. It’s everything I could want or expect from a coffee shop. You can even bring your dog. I’m so glad they still have their signature coffee cake. That alone would get me back in the door, all those years after Coffee People went bye-bye. If you come here, bring your appetite with you; lots of goodies, sandwiches and whatnot to choose from. I did not notice if they had vegan or gluten-free products but I’d be surprised if they did not. A very nice place to come to; I wish I had one up here.

Excellent local hang out. Nice people, good quality food and a fun atmosphere. The quality products — especially the baked goods — are outstanding, but the local vide and family feel is even better. If you need good coffee in NE, please give these guys a try.

5 stars because I was able to spend nearly an entire day here getting work done and the environment is fantastic for that. Large tables, big space, great coffee. If I’m ever in NEPDX, I think this will become my go-to spot.

Jim & Patty’s Coffee makes me wish I lived in Portland. I loved the vibe of this cool coffee house, they were packed on the Sunday we were there, but we were quickly served. The cashier was helpful and not shy about recommendations when I asked her opinion. The coffee’s came out perfect, and were so delicious and I really enjoyed the bagel that I got as well. I would have liked it toasted but since they were so packed they said it’d be like 20 minutes to get it toasted, what?! Um no, chewy n dipped in cream cheese works for me! Anyway, check out Jim & Patty, they rock!

Everything is great! The free wifi is a decent speed. There about 20 tables inside and 3 tables outside. When I walked in, there were two people on their laptops using the Wifi already. Coffee People at PDX told me that Jim & Patty’s were the original owners, and that I could come here for my Mexican Hot Chocolate fix instead of going to PDX. Willie makes outstanding Hemp milk Mexican Hot Chocolate! It’s far better than at Coffee People. Their famous Hippie cookie also far outweighs the ones at Coffee People. Don’t get me wrong; when at PDX go for Coffee People! Great to have Jim & Patty’s in town with the essence and soul of the original recipes that make them the best in their class:)

I do love a good Portland institution. Jim & Patty, the people behind Coffee People,(turned Green Mountain) have been doing it and doing it well for the Portland coffee scene since the early ‘70s. And while the Coffee People of Portland have effectively left the building(most are now Starbucks locations) Jim & Patty have kept a little slice for themselves, and just themselves: this place. They’ve done an incredible job turning a relatively large urban industrial space into what feels like the neighborhood living room, helped greatly by the neighbors(students, yummy mummies, young families and brunch’ers) who treat it as such. And while you might not get cutting edge coffee technique, what you will get are an absolutely solid latte alongside deliciously indulgent blends like the peanut butter fudge mocha or the spicy habanero mocha, and a house-baked scone that might just save your life.(Seriously, these baked goods…) This is a special little spot seeped in Portland history and charm. Jim and Patty are as close to Portland royalty as it comes.

Nobody in town makes a better caramel latte and black tiger shake than J&P’s. Nobody. They make their own Caramel and Vanilla. I would like to see a interior redesign.

On a slightly drizzling kind of day. Basically a typical day during the fall and winter months, I was wandering my neighborhood and checking out places I hadn’t stepped into. I was about to turn around and head home and being that it was still before 12pm, I figured I’d warm up with a little hot chocolate. Being that I don’t drink coffee(the horror to some of you) I went into Jim & Patty’s to see what they would offer. Friendly place in shades of blue, brown and tan. I took a look at the chalk board and I saw Mexican hot chocolate. Nice. I haven’t had one of those since living in Texas and I’m not sure that many of the small coffee joints offer it. It’s not really a hard thing, hot chocolate with cinnamon. Although some I’ve had do also contain a bit of a kick from some dried peppers. This version just had cinnamon. The counter guy was right on it and relayed the info off to the guy at the register and I sat down to wait on my hot beverage of rich chocolate. I got a 16oz one and well look at the photo, it was huge. It was also very creamy and not burn the roof off your mouth hot. The cinnamon was subtle but you knew it was there. I nursed it and read a book. Not a bad way to kill an hour relaxing. I like the personalities of the small shops that have only one or two shops to their name. They have charm, character and not a forced ambiance with cornball music. Stop by Jim & Patty’s it’s one of the good ones. Enjoy.

The crew at Jim & Patty’s, including the namesakes and plenty of family members, keep cranking out the coffee with No Backtalk, same as in their Coffee People days in the 1990s. From a single store on Freemont, last year they reopened a shop in Beaverton that had been an original Coffee People location back in the day. They’re planning a third location to open later this year across the street from Good Sam hospital. They offer some of the best coffee and some of the most innovative mixtures, including my favorite, the chocolate and orange mocha Borgia. The Pig Newtons, Naughty Supermodel coffee cake and Brazil cheesy bread are wonderful, as are their freshly made breakfast sandwiches. They even have«jail food,» day-old offerings at bargain prices. They say it’s just like you’d get in jail, but I doubt prisoners have ever eaten so well.
