NOTCLOSED! Just moved to the Peidmont Food Cart Pod on Killingsworth. They have an excellent variety of fish & chips; one of my favorite shops. Apparently forced out of their original location by the building owner.

It’s closed! Building looks like remodeling is underway. Will they return? Relocate? Bummer I loved their chowder

They have closed their doors, apparently didn’t renew the lease. We ate at the Italian restaurant next door which was good.

Solid fish and chips. I’ve you’ve got a craving for fried fish this is the spot. We had the halibut and salmon chips and both were great and served with a smile.

Ok, they have great live music Thursdays — Sundays. I ordered the $ 9 fish and chips. I found the batter too salty, and my fries were lukewarm. The chowder looks good and they have oyster shooters.

Just finished a delicious meal. Thanks to a write-up in the field guide to road trip eats, Roadfood, I found myself in this fantastic fish and chips restaurants. The menu had a good number of fish available to fry. They offered a gluten free option, the fish covered with cornmeal before going in a dedicated fryer. They also had a delicious cider on tap, gluten free. Try their cocktail sauce, it has a kick. I was served by the owner, who was friendly and very helpful. In addition to happy hour, they also offer live jazz on the weekends. Apparently they’re being forced out of their restaurant location at the end of August, will be moving to a new place in about 6 months.

The happy hour deal is very good. $ 1 for pbr, $ 3 for well drinks, and $ 1 oyster shooters. However tbh I did not like the oyster shooters at all. Do not recommend! A review of the place overall, this place is definitely a dive bar. One side has air conditioning the other side doesn’t. Anyways come here for the happy hour specials, not the oysters!

My hubby and I come here regularly. We have never been disappointed. We went last night was excellent as usual. I had a half order of oysters and a couple oyster shooters. They were all yummy. Their chowder is excellent and my husbands ahi was also. Sad that they are closing. I heard a rumor that there may be a move in the works though so keep your eyes and ears open.

Mediocre fried food that is way overpriced. At least it’s served by cranky rode hard and put away wet waitstaff. Lunch with two kids. $ 65. WTF ? Awww your moving? Bummer, I’m really going to miss eating food out of plastic baskets with paper in them. Pah-leazzze

I brought the boyfriend here to get fish and chips. I’d been here once before maybe 5 years? The thing I think of now was how the self proclaimed owner spent so much time with a couple of geriatric 21 forever type california women who kept declaring in an Irish whisper that they were tourists… «we’re tourists» they said over and over… We asked what was good and he said«every things good». The thing that keeps me from ever coming back was the food. My Boyfriend ordered the catfish(big mistake– tasted like a freezer and the cornmeal batter was realy salty) . I ordered the shrimp and it was just like popeyes, so I spent twice as much(and their fries are better) I think the owner would rather promote blues bands than deliver on the food. Overpriced, overhyped. P. S. go to the Frying Scottsman food cart and get your moneys worth.

SAVEHALIBUT’S — LANDLORDFORCINGTHEMOUTAFTERTENYEARS! FIRSTTHEFOOD. My first time eating here. Went for lunch during the week with a group of five others. We got a nice window seat and Dave the owner moved a table around to keep us happy. Dave said they do one thing and they do it great(FISH). With six of us we had a mix of almost all the different kinds of fish he offered. We ordered Ahi, halibut, halibut cheeks, and catfish with regular fries and sweet potato fries. We also had orders of clam chowder. The clam chowder had good texture with a nice taste of bacon. The cup was a great way to start of the meal. Everyones fish was flakey and moist. My catfish was fried in cornmeal which was a great pair with the fish. I really liked the horseradish sauce, nice and spicy. The tartar sauce was a good balance to the spice of the red sauce. We all got a half order which was a good portion for lunch. THEMOVE? After talking with the owner about his food and his restaurant we found out the owner is forcing him to move. Suck when he has been there for 10 years and given back to the community. It’s going to be hard to find another place, we all wish you success. You make a killer fish and chips.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, kid friendly, and the food is fantastic. My group had onion rings, calamari, french fries, salmon, catfish, and haddock. I tried a little bit of everything(i even tried the onions rings and i dont really like onion rings), and i was very pleased. I really like seafood, and i would be more than satisfied to come here again. Live music thursday, friday, saturday.

Mr and I arrived at this place after seeing a play, around 10:00 on a Thursday night. They close at 11. It wasn’t busy and there was a small jazz ensemble in the back. I’m not a huge jazz fan but the music was truly enjoyable. It was still easy to have a conversation and listen to the music. I didn’t even know there was going to be live music but so glad Mr and I were able to stumble on to it — we will definitely be back. I had the salmon fish and chips half order for $ 10 and it was hearty and delicious. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had, period. I also had an excellent piña colada. Service was okay not the greatest but adequate, so manage your expectations there.

Excellent deep fried calamari to start, with salmon and sweet potato fries for entrée. I added corn on the cob, which was sweet and tender — a big ear, too. I heard from my husband that the clam chowder and coleslaw were equally delicious. They offer gluten free breading for the fish. Nice stocked bar and great iced tea. Great for larger parties!

I went to this place on friday night to listen blues music! They are amazing especially Ken Hanson and John Lamb blues! Lamb’s drum solo is amazing! So yes i do enjoy the music and the place Too bad i have to order food because it is 10 bux minimum for a person! So talking bout cocktail. Gin tonic was not ok at all. Waiter just put the drink very rude!!! Just banged! I ordered coconut prawn $ 1.25 each! Terrible! It is basically deep fried prawn only! So honestly i feel ripped off! I def not coming back unless those 2 guys jam their blues music!

Early dinner/happy hour review only. I don’t really get it. $ 25 for 3 pieces of deep fried halibut. Say what? You better chew that for me too for that price. It’s pretty good halibut I suppose. But this is Portland and any restaurant is going to have pretty good halibut isn’t it? The saving grace were the cheap happy hour drinks otherwise this meal would have been close to $ 100 for me and the lady friend. Instead it was $ 57. I am just baffled I didn’t walk out. Maybe that’s the trick. You want to know what double the price halibut tastes like. Guess what? It takes like halibut. Walking by in the evenings it’s a much different scene. Turns in to a jazz club? The people look more content overpaying for fish. I’ll have to try it one more time to see what that’s all about. I’m not quite ready to right this palce off.

The staff is nice and pours strong great drinks. Will happily stop in for a quick drink but I will skip the food.(During happy hour 2.00 wells and 1.50PBR’s) My first complaint is that it’s crazy expensive for fried food. You can get halibut fish and chips from a food cart for 7.00. So being charged almost triple for the same thing is rough. The fish and chips are done ok… but it’s still fish and chips. Tried several other items as well. Nothing is bad, but nothing really blew my skirt up either. If you come in for food only do it during happy hour or you will be upset at the cost. This bar is known for live blues and jazz. Do come in for this. Make sure you eat before arriving and enjoy some drinks while enjoying the show. For quicker service sit at the bar.

The lemon drop martini is delicious. The cocktail shrimp is 150 count and very fresh. Never had a shrimp cocktail with such a small shrimp count, however, it was fflavorful. Beware of the cocktail sauce, it looks friendly but it will hurt you. It has lots of fresh horseradish. The chowder is very rich and creamy, if you are into that. It could have been a bit less thick for me. The coleslaw is fresh and crisp. I’d like it more if it were not sweetened. The halibut fillets come in a very light batter. This batter is the best I’ve had even in London, UK. The key lime pie is again, very thick and rich. Wish it would be lighter. This is heart-attack material. Finally, the owner is extremely friendly. For me the downside of this restaurant is the cost. We had the sampler platter for one and shared it. This plus one Martini for lunch was $ 50.00 plus tip. I’m coming back as soon as I win Lotto.
