Beer is great, the food is terrible. Like, really awful. Even the server suggested modifications to the burger because it’s basically inedible. And WHY do they caramelize red onions? PLEASE for the love of food caramelize sweet white onions and save the red onions for pico de gallo. And the deep fried mushroom tacos where big bite of grease, and that’s it. Sauté the mushrooms, add a little of that awesome stout for flavor and people will actually want to eat them. Good lord, it’s Portland. The land of fantastic beer and food. And the beer is amazing, please bring the level of your food up. Please.

Apparently Portland, OR is known for their restaurants serving up creative mac n’ cheese dishes and each one of them is different. Back home in Minnesota, I would call it more of an «attempt at mac n’ cheese». They’re doing something right at Alameda, but just how good is it? This was easily the best mac n’ cheese I’ve ever had and lucky for me, one of the included ingredients was in season and one of my favorite things to eat — Snow Crab Legs! Alameda’s Crab and Lobster Mac N’ Cheese can’t be beat by anyone in Minnesota and that’s because, Minnesota will never have fresh sea food like Portland receives. It’s the type of dish that would cause the following conversation for me… Friend — «Hey, wanna go grab a bite to eat, found this new place serving creative mac n’ cheeses.» Me — «Nah, I think I’ll pass…» Friend — «But it’s suppose to be the best mac n’ cheese you’ll ever eat.» Me — «Nope!» Friend — «You’ve been there?» Me — «Nope!» Friend — «Well, then how would you know?» Me — «It will never beat the west coast!» Friend — «That doesn’t seem fair…» Me — «Ok, lets go check it out!» Friend — «This isn’t that great…» Me — «I TOLDYOU!» :) It’s like traveling to Mexico, eating some of the most amazing AUTHENTIC Mexican food you’ll ever have from a cart down an alley that would scare most American’s and going home and having your friend ask you to go out to eat at a «Mexican» restaurant. The mac was really that good! And wouldn’t you know it… It’s a brewhouse! They’re brewing their own brews like 99% of Portland(#ILOVEPORTLAND) does and damn are they good. I tried a thick porter that was recommended by our server which was insane and their sour apricot ale which was DAMNGOOD! Because I don’t think my family and I would ever move out of Minnesota, I really wish the Portland food and brewery scene was extracted and implanted in Minnesota so I can always enjoy the amazing food and brews Portland has to offer. Minnesota simply cannot compete! #knowbeforeyougo

Recently, I walked in 45 minutes before closing. The bartender leaned over the bar, and sneered at me, «Yeahhhhh, we’re closed.» No apology – guess it’s his call to not allow customers into the establishment. Truly, worst treatment I’ve received in an establishment that I like to frequent.

Today began our 2016 A-Z Portland beer crawl. We began our tour at the closest«A» which turned out to be Alameda Brew House. Brandon our server was fabulous. I even convinced my partner in crime to have a «Berlinnerweiss with Abosute Citron shot» I had the Klickitat Golden Pale Ale” which was amaze balls!!! Topped it off with some great taqitos. Wonderful start to our adventure.

The food here… well it’s just terrible tasting. No flavor, just like cardboard. Speaking of board, their menu has been the same forever, it’s boring. The sad thing is the service has gotten so much better. They used to almost throw your food at you, but now their friendly and kind. It would be so awesome if they could get one of these professional chefs in there to do a menu makeover. Their location is so good it’s a shame to waste it.

Alameda Brewing Company: it’s not what you order, it’s what you get. Monday night; we decided to take our 90 year old Uncle out and he has a soft spot for pubs. Unc decides to order the house porter: «sorry we are out of porter»(how you run out of a house beer is beyond me). Okay, Unc joins me for their trusty stout; no problem there. It’s «Meatball Monday»…all you can eat spaghetti and meatballs; cool, I’ll have that. Unc wants the fried oysters and wife/niece –gluten intolerant– finds a few(very few, really) dishes that she can eat; chicken skewers it is. Ten minutes later: ah… sorry but we are out of spaghetti and meatballs… it’s 6:30 pm! It’s your advertised special. how can you be out!!! Okay, whatev, I go with the reuben; how can you«f» that up. Ten minutes later: ah… sorry we are out of oysters(!). Let’s see, so far you are out of porter, out of meatballs and now you are out of oysters and it’s 6:45 pm. This is only going to get better, can you tell? Okay, so Unc decides he really wants seafood and chooses the calamari. Dinner arrives: adequate reuben. Wife/niece’s chix skewers adequate, if overcooked. Unc’s calamari comes with a spicy cajun cocktail sauce: now there’s a brilliant idea: pair a delicate seafood dish with an overpowering cajun tomato based sauce. Who are these people? Funny thing: my wife and I used to be regular’s at the Alameda Brewhouse, but they changed owners and things went downhill. Haven’t been there in years and tonight we remember why. Adiós, Alameda; we will remember what you were but not what you’ve become.

Small brewery. Unassuming but VERY good. Loved their Bear Stout and the Barn Owl Imperial Brown. The Yellow Wolf Imperial Double IPA is their best seller and after trying it you won’t doubt it. Their seasonal Wet Hopinator was incredible. Fresh and rare. Good snacks/foods. Try the salsa. yes, it’s that good.

Sat at the bar with Dave as the bartender. Had a great experience. Dave is enthusiastic about the beer and provides great suggestions both beer and food. He provided great service and made sure I enjoyed my visit.

Even with the sweetest kiss… something’s amiss! I’ve been here several times now. For some reason each time I’ve been things just got a bit worse each visit. A shame, because Alameda Brewing sits in a gorgeous building and has a great atmosphere. There’s something special about Portland pubs, but with so many choices, you have to get things right. You ever get that feeling when you know there’s a lot of great parts, but something is missing to the puzzle? That’s Alameda in a nutshell. Happy hour used to amaze me when I first started going here. They have a pretty good selection of items, all priced at $ 5.50. Not bad really. Trouble is, after the first visit or so, there started to be problems. Pizza was burned a few times on top, over-fried ravioli’s, artichoke dip that tasted like pure cream cheese. Just silly for basic food items like that. Beers on offer are a hearty selection, and I know they work hard to make good beer and put their own stamp on it. Trouble is, too many times I’ve been in and they’re out of it. Yellow Wolf was a favorite of mine, a nice citrusy, fragrant yellowly goodness. Yet somehow they were completely out on tap twice in a row, and it was the start of Happy Hour! That’s some seriously bad planning. Considering the last time out was for a birthday and we came here because we both love that beer, it was a real letdown. I would have appreciated an apology from the staff and maybe something to make it right, but no dice! Their menu is very diverse and there’s a lot of choices. However, it’s hardly changed in all the years I’ve been going and is a little tired. Plus, I’m always leery when a pub tries to do too much. Here you have Mexican style dishes, seafood, pasta, BBQ ribs, falafel, and various burgers and sandwiches. Oh and you can have a milkshake too! Just a case of trying be everything to everybody, and when your focus is off, things fail. I’ve tried several menu items, and I’d give them a 3 out of 5 across the board. Overall, still not a bad place to drop in if you’re a local and grab a beer and a snack. Decent service, and it’s very clean including the restrooms. It’s in an increasingly upscale area with lots of eating places, and lots of traffic, and it fits in beautifully in the area. However for me, I won’t be driving up from SE to go here anymore.

Meh. We got a beer flight and they were flat and all tasted the same. Compared to the other breweries in Portland, this place is seriously lacking. My husband got the nachos and he said they were good. I got the falafel in pita and it was not good at all. Even the big chunks of feta were flavorless. It has a cool atmosphere though. The only redeeming quality about this place is that it’s right next to Pips doughnuts.

I was looking forward to the salmon sliders, however they were really dry and hard to eat. I added some humus from my appetizer, but still so so. My friends ordered the same and unfortunately had the same experience.

Most Sunday’s I try and get out for a hike then stop at a brewery for a pint and lunch. Alameda has been on the list for awhile now and I finally got in today. It’s a Nice little place that is much more inviting on the inside than out. I grabbed a P town pils and I tried the nachos which most places don’t do them very well, but I didn’t mind these ones. Add chicken for a little more. Overall I like this place, it was comfortable they had a descent menu and the beer was done well.

Came here after watching Insurgent at The Academy Theater. The boyfriend and I actually had no plans to intentionally visit the spot, but because Amalfi’s was closed(on Mondays) and we had already visited NoHo’s during the week, we decided to give this spot a shot. Surprisingly, Alameda Brewing Co. was awesome! It wasn’t packed or anything and we were seated right away. They’ve got cool looking booths and really high ceilings. I saw mac and cheese and I went for it, especially because there was lobster and crab in it. The dish was divine! Hot from the oven and the garlic bread is a nice touch! It looks like they have a happy hour worth coming back for another time around! Don’t mind if I indulge in the deliciousness of your food at a fraction of the original price.

This place rocks. The crab bisque and mahi mahi tacos were the bomb, and paired perfectly with the phenomenal beers these guys make. Jake the bartender was awesome, and truly had product knowledge and pride in the liquid gold that Alameda Brewing Co serves. There were plenty of locals sitting next to me at the bar, and it’s easy to understand why. If I lived closer, you can bet that I’d become a regular. If they still have any left, grab the single hop IPA they are pouring. Cheers!

I used to frequent this place fairly regular, but haven’t been in here in awhile. A recent trip really shut down my urge to ever return. We came in for happy hour and ordered the nachos, quesadilla, some taquitos and drinks. The drinks were OK, but the food was disgusting. Whoever made these items is cooking at about a Junior High Home Economics level. I’m not even kidding. Whoever made this does not belong in any kitchen. The nachos had a taste like whatever amount chili powder SHOULD have been used, they TRIPLED it. Same with the taste of the quesadilla, in addition, the amount of peppers they put in the quesadilla were also totally overpowering. I didn’t even try the taquitos, as my friend advised they were terrible also. To top it off, there was insistent pounding construction being done on the roof that just made us want to get out of there as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this started(or resumed?) after we had ordered. We’re very disappointed, as this used to be a pretty good place to go.

The two stars is for the taste of my food. I ordered the smoked chicken quesadilla. It was pretty bland and I was left disappointed. Chicken was extremely dry too. My bf ordered the bacon cheeseburger and he said it was delicious so I guess it was probably the thing I ordered. He also enjoyed his beer, which I didn’t order. Service was prompt and attentive. Will have to come back and order something else.

I think I’ve reviewed this location before. This experience wasn’t really above anything but their job. Meeting regulars at the bar, the bartender couldn’t be bothered. Got my beer. Cashed out. I think I would have eaten if she cared to ask. It was better to leave on a Friday after work. I would hate to have to kill.

Oh tasty beer how good you are on a hot day. Happy hour beer is even tastier! This review is only on thee beer, I really wasn’t hungry and as I said, it was hot out and I was wandering Fremont and popped in for a quick beverage. Alameda Brewing is a decent sized place with high, exposed ceilings, tall natural wood slatted booths and really simple burlap tapestries with a black hops and vines pattern on all of them. The centerpiece is all the brewing equipment behind the bar, mostly hidden behind a corrugated metal room. As for the beer? $ 3.50 a pint during happy hour, 3−7pm. I decided between the porter and the stout and the bartender said stout, so I went with the Black Bear Stout and it was creamy and tasty and clean. No aftertaste and it went down so smooth. I should have gotten another but I got there right at the end of happy hour. It’s a good thing I live in the neighborhood now. I will be back, and I will try some food. Enjoy.

Alameda Brewing Co. is a great stop if you’re brewery hopping. The place is gorgeous and spacious. They have a MASSIVE bar that stretches from the entrance all the way to the opposite end of the building. It’s a great GREAT place for large groups and it’s also good for smaller groups as well because they have cozy booth seats that have high privacy dividers. I stopped in one afternoon on our bar-hop adventure and had a beer. We were seated right away and our beer came out lightning speed – and super cold might I add. The décor is modern, clean, with touches of rustic features. I love the long burlap drapes that run down the walls with hops stenciled on. It’s a nice touch. The service was friendly and welcoming, and we had a fantastic time. OHANDFANTASTICHAPPYHOUR.
